Great tuning and thanks for the advisory. Also WCCF has your video up in an article trying to imply that the existence of these power saving profiles will reduce the performance of i9 users in general. I don't agree with that implication, but I hope it results in more people seeing your videos and what a really good overclock looks like. I also use LLC 6 with my Asus board and 13900kf. It is just more stable under load for me. Much better than the default 3 or recommended for OC 4.

You'll have to redo the video, Intel's latest statement says that the Intel Baseline Profile that they're going to start enforcing until the end of the month to motherboard vendors is actually PL2 at 188W and not 253W. Intel is shady and lucky, they knew about all of these issues since a long time ago and they're only solving it now because Arrow Lake is a new uarch so they won't need to cheat on benchmarks anymore (using this uarch specifically through three generations 12/13/14th) and also because it'll make Arrow Lake look better against Raptor Lake in the near future, consumers shafted in the face yet again, thanks Intel.
@Bang4BuckPCGamer
@Bang4BuckPCGamer Ай бұрын
Why would I need to redo the video? Any changes Intel makes will be optional for the user. They can tell motherboard vendors to ship with these settings, but we don't have to use them.

@@tommypearson9260 There is that whole group of low LLC pushers. Low LLC isn't for i9 levels of power draw, the volts drop too much and you lose stability. It is good for 125w chips. My default Asus LLC is 3. That is probably where most of the instability that people are having at sudden 300w+ power draws is coming from. Low default LLC on a CPU that is oversized relative to the motherboard concerning power draw. Volts get too low and the CPU becomes unstable.

Best to wait a bit and see if the problems are caused by actual degradation of the CPU or not. I personally for now I wouldn't push it too much before that is 100% cleared up.

That's a substantial difference in performance. So Intels' chips don't perform nearly as well as previously thought once their correct profile is applied.

@rluker5344
@rluker5344 Ай бұрын
"correct" depends on your point of view. Intel is trying to help the very unlucky, or those with little competence achieve stability. It will not result in performance loss for many, much less all Intel users. Few will update their bios to get the option to reduce performance and few will change their settings to reduce performance. Also Bang4Buck is showing his tuned stable bios far exceeds the performance seen in reviews. His reduced performance with the reduced power limits is still likely far above review performance. But he knows what he is doing. The reduced power limits fix is for people who don't.
@rluker5344

@@malceum Me too, but I also set my own profiles. One I like for my 13900kf is turning off HT and half of the e-cores. Then I either increase my clocks or reduce voltages. My P-cores are much more tunable with HT off. I mostly care about gaming. If I want high CB scores I turn all threads back on, but that is rare TBH. Also APO still tries to do stuff with overclocked, threads disabled bios settings.

Also, for some games like F1, Hardware Unboxed covered this, you don't want to use the lowest preset because some settings implicate geometry, draw distance and shadow quality which all depend on CPU speed. Also, your Shadow of the Tomb Raider comparison, 25 FPS is a big amount when it's 100 vs 125 FPS, but here we are talking about 350 vs 375 FPS or a difference of maybe 7% whereas the power consumption is 50% less, 250w vs 375w?

Thanks, Keep SVID behaviour to auto. Best case scenario for me at least is unstable but offers best temps. Load line can be your choice, level 4 will use more voltage, but have a higher Vdroop. FYI LLC at the highest level takes that 1.385v to around 1.45v actual. I'm curious as to how much power you're sucking down at full tilt, 400w? So glad I went with 7800x3D when my 12900k started bluescreening constantly. It traded blows with 14900k while consuming 1/3rd the power before this debacle and now, it's probably 10% faster easily and AM5 has an upgrade path whereas z690/ z790 is basically a dead platform. Also, Intel has just recently come out and asked all mobo manufacturers to limit the baseline power to 188w! Love your content, I'm still rocking my View 71 as well.
@rluker5344
@rluker5344 Ай бұрын
His LLC is at the second highest level and doesn't take the volts that high under heavier load. There is still some vdroop and the more amps consumed, the more vdroop there is. A 14900ks run at 5.9GHz will vdroop far more than your 7800X3D will because it will use far more power. Motherboards aren't made for new i9 levels of power draw yet and the existing LLC guidelines are simply inadequate for them. Also almost nobody will install a new bios and change their power settings to baseline so almost no one will be affected by this. i9s are losing no performance vs your X3D and ones like the one in this video have ~15% more performance than reviews. And if someone with an intel motherboard wants to upgrade they can just sell their motherboard for not too much less than they bought it for. This makes the extra cost going to a platform that will last until 2026 minimal vs one that will die in 2025. Also, just curious, do you run your Ryzen in W11 compliance in regards to fTPM? I've heard that can still be an issue even with all of the software updates AMD has provided since it is a hardware issue. If you have to stick with W10 (that loses support in 2025) with AM5 then that is a terrible platform for longevity.

Before you do anything I would recommend to note down voltages the 13900kf needs for a given frequency and what the 14900ks needs for the same frequency, to find out if the 14900ks is better then the 13900kf you are already using. A good 13900kf could be better then a bad 14900ks.

Summarizing. If you have a good AIO and you use the PC for gaming, it is better to leave it with the maximum possible OC. On the other hand, even if you have a great AIO, if you are going to use the PC to work rendering 24/7, it is advisable to have the baseline profile on, you will lose a couple of seconds but your CPU will not get an electromigration of 3 pairs of noses.

Stay away from Intel Failsafe SVID. Your problem is more likely an LLC that allows the relatively undersized VRMs on your motherboard to droop too low on heavy load.
