Intelligent Design was a movement created in the 1980s to argue that a designer must exist because the universe is finely tuned. Advocates for this movement included Christians, Muslims, Agnostics, and even Atheists. Theists, including Muslims, have wholeheartedly accepted this movement to prove the existence of God; however, adopting this position comes with its weaknesses.
In this podcast, we are joined by Dr. Shoaib Ahmed Malik to discuss the origins of Intelligent Design, the premises of its argument, and why Muslims should prefer the contingency argument over Intelligent Design.
For more information about Intelligent Design, please see Chapters 6 and 7 in Dr. Shoaib's book, "Islam and Evolution: Al-Ghazali and the Modern Evolutionary Paradigm."

Very interesting, For me as a 'student' of science, i believe that science attempts to understand ALLAH SWT's Creation, i am also extremely aware of the limitations of science, regarding both its methodology and resulting conclusions...

The contingincy argument is beautiful. It reminds me of some verses of the Qur'an where we learn that everything will return back to Allah (SWT) because Allah (SWT) is the inheritor of all things (Al-Waarith). Allah (SWT) is the creator and the inheriotor. Allah (SWT) is the owner.

Amazing and thought provoking podcast! We've all heard and used the design arguments, but it's interesting to learn that there's a huge gab when making a leap from a designer to God.

Hello Dear brothers, thanks for this discussion, from my humble opinion and humble knowledge about the ID movement, I see that they opened the door from some atheists to become at least agnostic and for theists to look at the world valuing the design on earth. The ID movement main focus is to show the problems in the evolution theory including the concept of common descent. this may help people who are researching this topic to have different prospective and benefit from their great work.

What are your thoughts on Intelligent Design? Should Muslims Adopt it?

Not wholesale, but there's certain things in there we can take and benefit from. Specifically, Stephen Meyer's work on information theory and the origin of life is very interesting, and doesn't suffer from some of the issues that Dr. Malik mentioned about ID

@@Muslim604c I don't see anything wrong in Intelligent Design argument. If its a design with a purpose, there is a designer. This is akin to pondering over Ayat fil Khalk which Allah incites us do throughout the Quran. Its sad that instead of leading this idea we are trailing behind Christians like always.

14:15 The same critique Dr shoaib is doing on ID applies to Cosmological argument and argument from contingency because they only prove necessary being they doesnt prove any specific God of any religion.

@@KhalilKhan-kg9ox anyone who calls evolution 'darwinism' is a science denier. It's just evolution. Darwinism isn't a thing. The fact that you think it is a thing shows that you don't read actual scientific literature, you just listen to apologists and other science deniers.

I don't think he is a Muslim. Oke by name, and the usage of Arabic words and names an uttering to believe in Allah, But his doctrine isn't that of a Muslim. I can't wait for the Ulama to refute the things he said, because there is NO Ulama on the face of the world who can support this guy.

@@xand2870 of course, it is... I have been watching Dr Shoaib for a long time and I have read his book on Islam and Evolution too (about twice). I've even written his book's review for him, and it's a brilliant book. I know Dr Shoaib personally as well, and he is a Muslim. If you're going to give me even 20 of your so called "proofs" that he isn't a Muslim, i won't buy it. You haven't read his book, you aren't familiar on his views on the Intelligent Design narrative (and he doesnt deny design, but he's critical of ID), and you still have the nerve to publicly comment "i don't think he is a Muslim"?? Sorry, but again, you're only being hateful here.
