As someone who doesn't really hunt for old sets and love lego pirates I really hope they bring the theme back.

If kid me had all those ships right after watching pirates of the caribbean, they'd be lying in wreck after a long free far all playsession, with pieces all around the room... So maybe it's a good things I never had those, would've been one hell of a mess to clean afterwards. Dunno why, but for a lot of kids it's much more fun to break, destroy, take apart, while building something and keeping it that way requires some willpower.

The Schooner has the most sentimental value to me considering all the sets ever released. Full of vintage vibes. Was hunting it for years until I've found a complete one two years ago covered in dust, left forgotten by the owner's family. Took it for 150 bucks. Now it is completely restored, the prime gem of my collection.

I have the Imperial Flagship from 1992 on my display shelf. My mum bought it for me back in 1994, and I still love it till this day. Its shape and artwork of the sails caught my attention back then when I was a little kid. Thank you for sharing your lego ships collection, it gives me a lot of fond childhood memories.

I have the old 1980s Black Seas Barracuda and the Imperial Sloop. To me, I think lego pirates does need a return at full force.

My absolute favorite set of the pirates legos sets is the Caribbean Clipper! I have 3 Caribbean Clippers here at home modified with 2 extra lego cannons with 2 of them having a crew of 7 and the other one having a crew of 6. 2 of them also have their cargo bay filled with extra treasure and the other 1 its cargo bay filled with extra lego food. I love all 3 of them!

When I was 4 years old, my dad bought me an Imperial flagship (Latest) for Christmas, then on my 6th birthday he bought me a BricksBeards Bounty. As a kid he had a lot of old ships like that older little pirate ship with black and white sails, Imperial flagship (old, not oldest) and Black seas Barracuda (Oldest). I also bought Black Pearl. I'm 13 now and I'm going to sell the other legos and keep this one and put it on display.

I think for Pirates of Barracuda set with repaired ship model, you can modify the midsection of the ship so that you extract Jose's inn entrance panel part from the ship and use it on the island instead. Definitely very versatile set as a display. Your house full of lego sets collection is undoubtly so sick.

I love the imperial flagship remake for the new Eldorado fortress! It was always one of my favorite ships... And now I'll get to own a new and improved version of it!

Unfortunately I missed out on lego pirate ships as a kid, luckily as an adult, I now own Lego Pirates of Barracuda Bay and I love it so much. The amount of pieces and playability you get for 200 dollars is incredible. My 11 year old self would've gone crazy lol. The ship itself makes for a great display piece. Glad I got my hands on one before they were gone.

Thank you for sharing you ship collection and make these detailed comparison. As a kid in the early 90' my biggest pirates sets were the Caribean Clipper and the Forbidden Island. I don't know if you made it on purpose, the flag should be put in the opposite direction because the wind comes from behind.

The bottom of the front rigging on the Red Beard runner is actually attached together! It's just very easy to miss this part in the instructions!

When I was a little kid, I wanted that troll ship SO bad. I remember seeing it in the store and I still kinda wish I got it because it was so cool, but my mom said no. Maybe it made me a better person in the end.

I found a huge lego technic throwbots collection that was pretty impressive at goodwill. Also had the fully assembled pit droid from episode 1.

My pirate flagship will always be the Skull's Eye Schooner. Also in 2009, they made the cannons fireable.

If you just pop out the good window frames in the new Barracuda, you can easily fit cannons through them 👍 and move some interior stuff too obviously

Man I wish I got the pirates of the Caribbean ships, i got most of the other POC sets then I have the brickyard bounty (and most of those sets) and now the new one. Would be cool to get some ancient civilization ships, Roman, Greek, Egyptian, Japanese etc I'd also love to have a lego collection like this

I know if it very difficult to define the boundaries of « Lego ship » or « Lego Pirate Ship ». IMO Pirates needs to be one of those themes that Lego keeps active constantly, the way they do the CIty series. and like the City series they could easily roll in some other sub-themes from time to time. like elements of the Adventure series with the different regions and 'lost worlds', and possibly even parts of the Castle theme. just make it clear that the Pirates theme exists in an explicit fantasy world rather than being merely a thinly reskinned version of the 1700's. a revamped Pirates line today would need to ensure they have smaller, less expensive ships for people to buy. the small cutter the old Imperial trading post came with would be an ideal choice there. just make it a little longer to fit in some extra play area, and you have budget pirate ship with a few pirates that can retail for under $50. maybe make 2-3 such ship sets, including an Imperial one. then parents can get their kids an actual ship (not a raft or a rowboat) for them to adventure with without having to drop $100+ on one of the big hulled ships. of course you'd also want to offer "battle packs" with 4-5 pirates or imperial troops and say a Rowboat or cannon emplacement build to help crew those ships. (basically using a similar model as the star wars army builder sets, where you get 4 minifigs and some sort of emplacement or small vehicle themed to the faction) i could see an Imperials set being 3 Infantry soldiers (with rifle, backpack, and Shakos) and an officer (with pistol, sword, epaulettes, and tricorn hat) alongside a cannon (with the 4 little wheels like the classic pirates version) and a bit of "wood" wall to park the cannon behind, as well as a few 'cannonballs' and a "ramrod.". basically a little shore party to secure and island or attack a pirate camp. while the pirate version would be 4 crewmen (or 3 crewmen and a crewwoman) with enough variation to mix and match parts to avoid having too many duplicates if you buy multiple. and they'd come with a sailed rowboat and treasure chest. and honestly you could expand the factions.. turn the spanish themed Imperials from the third wave of original sets into a rival to the Imperials for perhaps could re-add the islanders, and/or introduce more fantasy elements like the orcs and trolls of the castles line, a fleet of zombies and skeletons, etc.

If I have a chance to purchase one of the classic Pirates ships I would choose Red Beard Runner, the BSB & the SES are great but I would feel some minor tweaking to the RBR would have make it better as I loved it in terms of design and color theme, the gimmicks not so much but still you would need to look at it from a different perspective

Regarding the printing on the sails, I've used a wide marker to fill in the back of the sails before, but its no big deal it looks fine without it.

The flatter topped skull change on the flag to me seems to indicate the probable skull shape of a lego minifig as compared to a human, which I think is a nice detail.

The viking longship looks sparse, but is accurate in that way. I'm planning to modify mine by replacing the silly launcher on the bow with a battle deck. This deck would only be about one brick high, but would add more accuracy.

your red beard runner is missing some pieces on that front mast. there was a stack of 1 stud wide pieces with clips on the end that prevented it from just hanging their like yours.

I really hope for another creator 3in1 set featuring a Royal Guards flagship....

Sucks we never got a flying dutchman for pirates of the caribbean.

In this video, the versions of cannon are mismatched to the ship sets they would have been used on and even mixed within single sets. The older sets like the Barracuda should all have the "firing" cannon, the inert version came later. Sorry for the OCD.

Some of the cannons can not shoot and I think thats from another Lego theme. The cannons with little swords can't. I think all the 90s pirate sets had functional cannons. But still a very enjoyable watch. I have the smaller skull eye shooter, the blue armada one and the red beard rudder. The creator ship is cool but I liked the sails not being made of brick but clough (more romantic I guess).

well tbh you can place cannons in 7:55 new Barracuda, you just have to take out the interior bed/storage/writing sections :). Its a matter of choice tbh, just like if you build an island from it or a ship.
