Welcome to the first installment of Interdisciplinary Breakdown: Speaking the Same Language in Patient Care! We start out with inside look at an Annie's impressions of Central Sterile Service.
Annie is an aspiring Surgical Technician (CST) who is currently enrolled in a certification program. As she is expected to learn all of her duties, skills, and anatomy, Annie is also doing something very unique. Her program requires an EIGHT WEEK rotation in a Central Sterile Department! Little did she realize, that her world of being scrubbed in and sterile would take a turn to the process of sterility. Any CS Technician can tell you just how dirty it can get fighting super bugs in CSS!
Did I mention that she is logging her clinical rotations during a pandemic?? Join us as we discuss COVID- 19's ripple effect throughout perioperative services and educational curriculum. Annie and I also discuss her impressions of CSS and what she takes with her into her career as a CST. She then describes her challenges in the department and her experiences with the Operating Room staff.
Annie is an amazing example of finding a profession that resonates with her 'why' and making it a career! She puts the CSS in her SUCCESS so she can perform her roll in patient safety more effectively.
