Benjamin Moore has never ever failed me. I love your nail polish example. BM paints look as fresh in year 10 as day 1. Their colors are dynamic, changing with the light throughout the day. BM is worth the price. Applies clean, like butter. Have been majorly let down with Behr. SW is good for exterior. Luv you Julie 💕

Great video!! I'm no longer in love with my bedroom paint color. Why I ever chose bright yellow is a mystery to me. I chose the color from swatches without researching quality verses price or brand. So after watching this video, I feel much more confident in choosing the right color for our bedroom. Thank You Julie for explaining the differences in paint brands and the quality of the paint based on price.

Thank you! This was super helpful! We are mixing ivory/off-white trim, cupboards, and doors (throughout our home) with a new bright white washer and dryer in our laundry room. Our pedestal sink and toilet in the same small room are bisque, and shelving with cupboards above the washer and dryer are ivory-ish. I was stuck with how to pull together the white and off/white with a neutral wall color. Thank you! Since we have both gray and beige in our tile floor, it looks like a light greige from Benjamin Moore will work. Grateful.

I have used Behr paint for many, many years. The quality is excellent. So is Valspar from Lowe's. Don't buy into the idea that you need to buy paints that are twice as expensive but in no way twice as good. I know decorators in my area that are not pompous about these things and they love Behr and Valspar. it glides on the wall and looks fantastic. It is fairly priced and is easy to find. So go for it and save some money by using Behr (from Home Depot) or Valspar (from Lowe's). It will go on great and look great! I do also like Sherwin-Williams paint, but for the money and the great results I get, I most often go with the Behr or Valspar.

Thank you for supporting the lower cost paints! For those of us on a budget we cannot afford the Farrow and Ball or Maybe even the Benjamin Moore paints. I do use them for smaller rooms or projects because the quality is so good. I have been using the Behr for years now and I can say the quality has gotten much better. I usually use the mid to upper range ones like the Marquee. I get quite good one coat coverage with mid tone colors. And the flats I have used are quite nice. There is a color called Poppyseed Black that I love, and many others. Like the warm and relaxing Warm White Wool. So I have repainted most of my interior in Behr and it is holding up quite well and is very scrubbable. I am an artist so I tend to lean towards more vibrant and warm earthy colors unless it is my studio where I like white walls so the Southern light from my window does not bounce a color off the walls and change the light onto my canvases... I don't tend towards the dark blacks on a large scale as I don't like the cave look. I reserve that for a theater room. I am too much of a light lover. Great tips! Thanks!

Great advice. Lighting dictates color. Always. The reason you pick the color last is that there are 100's of 1000's of paint colors and if you picked your paint first you will have a hard time blending it and matching it with your rugs/upholstery. Also, if you pick bold colored upholstery that color will impact the color you chose for your walls. I once had a client pick very neutral agreeable Gray (SW) with new construction build and then buy a Red sectional. It instantly turned this wonderful wall color Pink toned. So, it is very important to pick out your furniture and rugs curtains then pick out your wall color. When picking finish of paint you have to consider the fact that anything other than flat cannot be then easily touched up.. you have to repaint the entire wall with eggshell/satin etc. I always recommend flat for walls. You can easily touch it up without having to repaint the entire wall. Flat paint also hides a multitude of sins. If the finish on your walls is not perfect, definitely use flat paint.
@ShellSellars-Smith4 жыл бұрын
I had a client pick SW Sea Salt on new Construction. Which looks stellar in well lit rooms with it's cool Blue/Green-Gray undertones. Then she moved in with all her warm under toned furniture and rugs. I have never seen Sea Salt look so ugly in a house. Lighting and what you put to the room impacts your color so much.

I tested 3 bright whites - one each from Benj. Moore, Sherwin Williams, and Behr. I chose Behr's Ultra White -- It's so beautiful! The only problem is that it takes several coats to get a true saturation so that you don't "see through" it, as it were. But it's brighter than the other colors and is gorgeous no matter the time of day or night. I'm doing all of the public areas in it as well as 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. It's also the color for all of the woodwork, so there's continuity throughout the house. Ahhhh! There's nothing like a color you love to make 2020's sheltering in place a really welcoming refuge.

I love that you’ve become a color expert during this time Margaret 🙌🏻 A great primer should lessen the amount of finish paint needed!

@@JulieKhuu Behr's includes a primer. However, most of the walls I'm painting have an off-white color on them, so I'm not trying to cover a dark color. And where the color is dark, I've put on 2 coats of Kilz! It still takes several coats of the Ultra White to do the job. Thank you, I just discovered your channel and love it! This information on paint is so helpful. I am a mosaic artist and we are renovating our small 700 sq.ft. home. Can you do a video on how to successfully use jewel tone colors on walls in small open spaces. Teal, rust, green? Or are these best for accent colors? I would like to showcase our artwork as well.

Thank you for watching ☺️ If you go to my website (in description box) check out Hotel Le Reve commercial project. I use tons of saturated color in this space

Loved this video, but you didn’t touch on the ceilings. We are moving into a home next month and my husband wants all the ceilings painted while there isnt any furniture. We lean more to the warmer tone furniture and flooring. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you
@JulieKhuu4 жыл бұрын
Whatever the wall paint color is, go for the lightest color on the paint chip for the ceiling. That way, they echo the room color without it being white Gale. Hope this helps!

I generally like watching your videos and I gained some knowledge from this one as well. However, may I make one suggestion... The reason I watched your video is so that I could learn more about some of these paint colors. When you actually got to the paint colors you quickly brushed through them so that I had to go back several times and pause it so that I could study, review the different colors and everything you wrote on them. My suggestion would be to hold that frame a little longer when there are multiple things for your viewers to read. I recognize this is an older video and maybe you can’t do much with it at this point, but for future reference it would be helpful for you to pause on the colors and talk a little bit about each one that you introduce. Just a suggestion.

Copy Cheryl, I felt the video was already too long and you would simply pause if you found something you liked. But I hear ya! Will leave the notes on a bit longer ☺️👍🏻

True they go by fast, but if you use the keyboard shortcuts (if using a computer), K for pause, J for back and L for forward (or the arrow keys for shorter back or forward), it's helpful to navigate.

Please do not talk about "Paint & Primer in one" that is something the Behr paint started and then the other marketing divisions of the other companies jumped on board. If you read the TDS sheets on such paints, they all say for best results use a primer or works over previously painted surfaces. From a chemist standpoint, it's either one or the other, a primer is not a finish coat and a coating designed to be a finish coat cannot be a primer. Do yourself a favor, always recommend a primer and topcoat, especially when in new construction.

Why spend the money on paint when we want to change it often.. I'm confused ! The simple way to change a room is paint Color, No paint quality
@JulieKhuu4 жыл бұрын
The value of interior design comes from inspiring a wellness mindset. If you don’t think spending money on paint will help lift your spirits and outlook, then you don’t find value in design. It’s definitely not for everyone, but paint is the CHEAPEST way to transform a room. ☺️
@stephaniewilkinson49824 жыл бұрын
I understand your mindset but you can achieve it without the expense with paint and put it toward furnishings. You've so much information to offer and do love your designs

The bulk of my interior is painted Tony Taupe (7038) from Sherwin Williams. I have a lot of natural light in the house and this color looks great. I've had it up for about 15 years and I still love it. It may look dark, but it's not too dark in my space.

So funny you say this, as I was just admiring a color I also chose 15 years for a 2-story accent wall in my dining room, which is Behr's "Harmonic Tan." And I still LOVE it today!

So appreciate your helpful videos. In process of whole House Remodel - to a Old World Mediterranean Style with Earth Tones. (Yes I'm odd bird) Cabinets - Ginger with Coffee Highlight. French Oak Flooring in darker Coffee Tone that gives contrast to cabinets. Taj Mahal Quartzite used in countertops - also in Shower Surrounds etc. (Earth Tone with Travertine in Accent Tile) Oil Rubbed Bronze Faucets etc. Fireplace being remodeled to look more Old World with Rod Iron Screen - also picking up the Rod Iron in Ceiling Chandeliers. (Not heavy rod iron - just a light touch to get the Med. look) All materials have been picked out & I was getting close to choosing Wall/Trim Paint color. Watched this video plus your video on what Paint color vs Wood Color --- but I'm still a little confused. With Exception of bedrooms, my house is filled with a lot of light. South & East facing walls have floor to ceiling windows--- Large Skylights in Bathrooms. I have high vaulted ceilings. I love contrast. Wanting to keep my home feeling warm, comforting, serene & relaxing. I will be using Benjamin Moore paint. Do you have a recommendation for color choice?
@JulieKhuu3 жыл бұрын
I love the direction you’re going Carolyn. From what it sounds like, maybe still do tonal earth tones in the common areas (not too much contrast between walls and trim), then you can play with colors and contrast in the individual spaces to really add the oomph. Furniture helps tremendously to help your direction- also check out how to pick the perfect color palette for more inspiration! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻☺️
