I take this train about 3 times a year and also always end up in the dining car. It truly is great with its panoramic windows and modern but comfy interior, better than on most SBB trains that offer the same menu. There's really no need to get a first class ticket: For the same price you can sit in the dining car and have a few drinks and a snack. Just be aware that on weekends particularly, it tends to be crowded with day tourists, so you should be on the platform early to secure one of the few available seats.

I took this exact route for free twice a week when I was stationed at Meiringen air base during my recruit school :) Never realised how much it actually costs (and how great my freebie was), but I always enjoyed the ride a lot!

The "bike storage" area is also equipped with ski racks, as I could see. Like almost every train in Switzerland.

You can reach a ski resort from pretty much anywhere in Switzerland in reasonable time and skiing is a quite popular sport so it makes sense to have ski racks in every train even if they don't directly go into the mountains.

I took that trip (in reverse: departed Lucerne, arrived in Interlaken) with some classmates while I was studying abroad (almost 15 years ago). Unfortunately, it was very rainy and extremely foggy so we missed all of the spectacular scenery.

Swiss trains are a dream. (greetings from Germany ^^) The old Lucerne train station would surely have looked very nice nowadays. (The old building burned down in 1971) But this new building is also okay.

wow, this video makes me bring back memories. at that time my train route is from luzern to interlaken.(in my opinion, luzern to interlaken is more beautiful than from interlaken to luzern.) It was nice to be able to see the lake scenery for a long time by driving slowly around the lake.

Great video! And a bike storage👍. About the food on board. Mostly, it are prefab meals. Maybe it sounds not that nice for some people. But in many "normal" restaurants they serve prefab meals (or a part of it) too. And they let you think there is a real chef and let you pay quite a lot.

On regular days, there's only one person preparing meals and serving customers at the same time in this small dining car. All hot meals are "convenient food", just on a rather high quality level, fortunately. I usually don't take anything fancy. For breakfast they serve fresh croissants and a latte macchiato for 6.80, a good pick. If you want to go for a warm meal, I can recommend the "extra wurst" sausages. I used to drive european tour buses and would frequently stay in Lauterbrunnen, Wilderswil and Interlaken.....as well as driving the buses up and over the Brunig Pass a few dozen times......and I wish i'd been able to take a trip on this train

Was hoping to ride this line when I rode the Golden Pass but there was engineering work, so the line was bus substitution so rode other trains instead so I will have to come back and do this one.

It is a shame that there are the very uncomfortable Match-seats (produced by Kiel GmbH) used in the trainsets. 🙁

Travelled this way in 2012 and 2017, firstly Lucerne to Montreux seated in the panoramic cabin on the Golden Pass express, and then the reverse on the same train the 2nd time. The reason I had to do this was the 1980 show, Great Railway Journeys of the World, where Ludovic Kennedy took the trip from London to Budapest, via the Brunig Pass. I was hooked, and could not wait to do this trip. Took over 30 years though😂 On that same show he took the Vitznau Rigibahn to the top of the mountain which we did in 2017. Such great memories and images of a magnificent route. Thank you so very much for sharing. BTW, shame the MOB no longer has the Panoramic coaches.

Most tourists on the train (though not it seems Thibault) would be travelling using the fabulous Swiss Travel Pass valid on all public transport. Many Swiss residents would be using their General Abonnement, a season thicket currently 3990 franks a year valid on all Swiss public transport.

What a scenic ride. I love Switzerland and Tirol region in Austria. I just have one question about the video. I don't understand the maximum incline of 128%. That would be like a roller coaster that loops back on itself. 10% is steep on a bicycle. It's my understanding that the maximum grade for an adhesion train is 4.9%. So, what did I miss?

It's not % but 0/00 if you look closely, so 12.8%; easily doable with a rack system.

Service and experience in general are on a high level on most Swiss routes in international comparison - so is the price, of course. But I would highly recommend a few Swiss routes to train enthusiasts and nature lovers. My favorites: Bernina line from Chur to Tirano, Centovalli line from Domodossola to Locarno, RhB from Chur to Arosa, Zermatt-Gornergrat, Grindelwald - Kleine Scheidegg - Wengen, the Zentralbahn Interlaken - Luzern as shown here, the old Lötschberg line from Thun to Brig, the Travys line from Yverdon to St.Croix, the MOB from Spiez to Montreux.

Toilets are important, though it can be misleading. If you happen to get into one right after another passenger made a huge mess, it gives a bad impression even though the operator might generally do a very good job keeping them clean.

Especially on this train, with people from other places who let's say use the toilets in a different way, they can often be a mess. It's not the operators fault, it's the tourists. They even had to put up stickers to show how the toilets should be used...

First Class with a seat reservation is very affordable. I highly recommend it. Brunig Pass is not high, or spectacular, but it remains one of my favorite trips. Luzerne is gorgeous.
