In this video I provide a day-to-day account of the 6-day 'INTERMEDIATE Wilderness Bushcraft' course that I recently attended, ran by Paul Kirtley, Henry Landon and James Bath from Frontier Bushcraft.
This course is designed to "start where most bushcraft courses finish" and boy-oh-boy does it do that!
6 fantastic days of not only world-class instruction but also several opportunities to be 'left alone' to actually immerse ourselves in the task at hand and gain an appreciation of just how much time and effort can sometimes be required to undertake some of the 'heftier' bushcraft tasks.
Many thanks to Tom King from Backgarden Bushcraft and John Hogebrug Thompson and Simon Hooper for sharing their photos with me, some of which I've used in this video - Cheers fellas!

Looks like a brilliant course. I've done the Elementary and the Canoeing course at Windermere with Frontier Bushcraft, so I can totally attest the time the instructors invest in their clients. Top notch!

Ah the intermediate bushcraft course, I remember it well! You forgot to mention the stench of the water you waded through the collect the cattails, I bet you made sure that you had visit to the bucket shower later that day! 😂 How did you find the chicken and salmon cooked in the burdock leaves, don't you think that the leaves left a strange taste to your food? As for sleeping the night in the blanket with the fire going in the middle of the shelter! It's a pity that you didn't experience the night waking up around 3-4 am freezing your balls off, after the fire had died down, and you only had the blanket to keep you warm! It's then you realise the joys of a modern day sleeping bag! 😏 It has to be said though that the course is excellent, and the instruction given is first class! Anyone thinking of giving it a go should do, it's money well spent!

Great video, and a good insight into the contents of the intermediate course. The bags under your eyes told a million stories as the week wore on, so it was great to see that washed away by your enthusiasm for the last day’s activities .. good work on the hand-drill!

Hi Craig, Wow! Sounds like it was a great course! Wish I could have been there. I am glad that your knee survived the experience. I was worried it was going to do you in. Good show! Thanks for giving such a great synopsis of a week's worth of bushcraft knowledge! Can't wait to see the netting video! ;) Take care and keep up the great work!

It's good to remember everything we did, particularly from my comfortable couch. I like your approach after the fact, revisiting particulars. I'm doing the same, beginning with the basket. I wasn't feeling it the first time, either, drained from the day. Mine carried what I foraged, but I didn't win any awards for best dressed/accessorized. Thanks for the video!

Hey JC, thanks for dropping by and checking the video out, much appreciated 👍. The bark basket want my finest hour either, so I'm keen to revisit that but I guess it's one for next Spring once the sap is rising again?

The Bushcraft Padawan sleep deprivation is torture and can really mess up the mind. There’s a time and a place for being uncomfortable and that’s not on a course. Just my opinion. Keep up the good work Craig

Hi Craig! I seem to be one course behind you each year. When I was on the Elementary course with (Gordon Deadman) you was on the Woodcrafter the following week. This year I was on the Woodcrafter with (Ken Schaffer) and next year I’m doing the intermediate. My question is; what’s next for you mate?. Will you do anymore courses? Obviously you can’t go any further on the Bushcraft aspect with Paul so are you considering doing something with WillLord or something along those lines. I would love to hear your plans and thanks for giving me the previews before the courses as it gives me a great run up before. All the best. Vince

Let me ask the most important question. What were the toilet facilities like? 40 minute round trip to the middle of nowhere or dig and manage your own facilities? Oh, and thanks for the insights!
@TheBushcraftPadawan

Good question! For the sake of health and hygiene there was a shallow trench latrine area a few hundred metres away from the centralised teaching area that we established. If you needed a pee then that was done on an individual 'find a tree' basis although again, there was a centralised pee-tree close to the reaching area. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on the video, it's really appreciated. If you like the look of my channel and would like to see more then please consider subscribing. Stay safe 👍

@@TheBushcraftPadawan Haha funny, I met him for the first time some 1 1/2 years ago, if I remember correctly. Left quite an impression passing by with a ton of blood-stained, still-to-be-tanned deer hides and a way too big supply of flint stone for knapping hahaha. I should get to check the upcoming dates of Paul Kirtley's classes - still on the bucket list, for when there's some extra cash to spare. :)
