Thanks Craig. Great video. Explanation for the tang at the butt of the knife. This is so you can make fire with one hand, if you have one arm injured you can still make fire. If the knife is placed at the rear of your knee joint and then kneel down, the knife is held firmly with the butt poking out for you to strike against with your good arm.

I have been putting my Kymit half pad inside my sleeping bag. It stays put, but it’s a bit of a trick to get in position as where you want it head and shoulders wise. I also use a silk liner that I slip into then slip into my bag. It has a pillow case build in, so a sweater folded up works great as a pillow.

Since then have you had any issues with the leather sheath? I'm thinking of upgrading the plastic sheath for a leather one but i recently watched a video about it and his had developed a hole at the bottom where the tip was poking through, which doesn't sound like great news to me. Unless he just got a lemon or has abused it in some way?

Love mine. Got the stainless and carbon and both seem as capable as each other imo. I don't see any need to spend more on a bushcraft knife either. All you'll be paying for is 'pretty' or 'i like to waste my money on impractical luxuries'. It's a tool. And i like the fact you don't have to be all precious with it.

I have an old targus backpack that i had found in a dumpster at my apartment. Took it home and washed it. That was 12 years ago amd it was extremely well used 12 years ago. It has been my go to bag for everything overnight or weekend getaways. Every zipper still works perfectly and not a single tear or hole. I have a dozen other really nice military surplus as well as some good quality "tacticool" bags but i just prefer tge pocket layout of that little back pack. I have yet to find a suitable replacement for it.

Gday Mate, Not the day for cooking but that omelette would be great if you had 2 mates and served in a bread roll a little lettuce, tomato and mustard. or wrap it up and reheat it. by the look of that weather it would be a few days before it went off.

I really like Keela. I have had two Munro jackets and they have been excelent. I'm not as intrepid as you but I don't drive and do a lot of cycling and kayaking. I sweat a lot and the pit zips/zents express the internal moisture really well. When I've been out in the wind and rain they have never let me down.

I like the way you loaded the stove up. Another video i watched just sorta chucked in some kindling which had me wondering how long the flame would last on a single load and how efficiently it would cook. So the video answere both, thanks!

What happens really is that the vents in the bottom and heated air in the double wall causes the gasses in the burning wood to be drawn down to the bottom of the stove and then up through the double wall, it's the gasses that are reignited at the top, not just heated air.

I'm late commenting here. I've had this bag for 3 years and initially had the same comments as yourself. What I found to work for me or anybody reading this is to thoroughly soak and put on those rubberized garden gloves and then really twist the bag like it couldn't possibly twist no more, do this quite a few times whilst also leaving the bag hanging outside to weather in the elements and soften up. I leave my bag outside now and I now love it, works perfectly but took some time to get it broke in.

Hilleberg's response!!! Their tolerances must be MASSIVE!!!! Thank you for your email. After looking at the video I think that the vent and zipper end look as they should. The seam allowance is well within our margins but unfortunately, we can't make the seams closer or on the metal zipper stoppers. We wanted the Soulo design to be compact, have multiple pole crossings, and be as light as possible at that strength and snow load ability. The only good placement of a vent with this design is up high and that is where we placed it. We have tried to make the vent as weatherproof as possible and we have put a lot of time and effort into the vent design. For us vents and openings are essential for a tent's function. They help optimize ventilation and minimize condensation but unfortunately, they can in some very unfavorable conditions let some small drops of water inside the vestibule. The vent cover will protect the entire vent in most weather but in extreme situations i.e., strong winds, heavy rain, and a lot of wetness, wind-driven rain can be pushed underneath the vent cover and against the vent. There can unfortunately always be some discomforts when staying in a tent in truly bad weather. We also always say that a tent and its vestibule will never be 100% free from moisture because of condensation. Usually whenever we hear from user that experience problems with water entering via the Soulo vent it’s when the wind is facing the door. In this severe weather, I would say there are very few tents that can stand strong and offer security and shelter. Soulo BL is one of them. Even if the domes can handle winds from every direction quite well, they do have a recommended pitching method and pitching orientation against the wind. If you use and pitch the tent according to our recommendations with the foot end against the wind, the vent will be less exposed, and wind driven rain will be less of a problem. Also, there is an extra guy line attachment webbing on the vent cover where one can add a guyline to hold the vent cover down so the vent cover can protect the vent even better.

I do not carry nearly as much on my waist as I did in the Marine Corps but, I do still use a belt kit. I tried carrying the vaunted haversack that everyone is so taken by. It was not for me. I just prefer a butt pack to it. Feels more secured tome and less likely to get tangled in the undergrowth. Like you, I too was denied child bearing hips. Therefore, I use an older ALICE H-harness and pouch set up. Lately though, I’ve been experimenting with a civilian hunting rig that integrates the belt, but pack, and harness all in one lighter, semipermanently attached set. It’s lighter, and more well padded around the waist. This last feature is getting more and more pleasant as my hips get older. My revolver is on a chest rig. My knife, ferro rod, and spare ammo still and always remain on my trousers belt.

Back packs have foam padding next to your back, if you need extra insulation sit with your back against your pack. Does not matter if your in a sleeping bag or shelter extra insulation. You could if needed wrap a back pack in the shelter to keep everything dry

Greetings from the states. I use a similar approach. I have a DD Travel Hammock. I put a sheet of Reflectics between the two layers of my hammock. Reflectix is an aluminum covered bubble wrap used as a duct wrap in HVAC systems. I also use a inflatable sleeping pad inside under my quilt. On one side of the pad, I put some silicone to keep it from sliding around. This approach keeps me warm well into the lower 40's faranheight. Happy camping!

I wear a softshell by TrueWerk as a longshoreman in Alaska. I wash it weekly and only with NikWax detergent and wash in waterproof. I have also seam sealed my jacket & bibs ( both a softshell they call T3 material ). They claim it is “highly” water resistant. After what I have done, I say it is waterproof. Even after 3 hours of wind driven rain, I am dry. The material is soaked tho! And if I sat down, the water would push thru. But I personally hate waterproofs because I get too hot and sweaty. I don’t get that problem with the softshell. And every 3 hours we get a brake so my softshells get a chance to dry out a bit. Works for me👍
