Yes I think that's true. I've said before, I think Wang Xiangzhai became bloody minded about this because he didn't know many forms, his links to Guo Yunshen were minimal, and people couldn't get past that so they trolled him over it. And I think that pushed him to be militant about saying all their forms were redundant anyway. And yet, most of his students, I suspect, only progressed in the way that they did because they already had backgrounds in forms and fighting. The weak link in Yiquan has always been how to go from total beginner to competency just within the Yiquan paradigm as Wang saw it. I'm not sure that any of his students thought that that was actually possible. Chinese martial arts forms training teaches people structure, and certainly for me, that made it a lot easier to transition into Yiquan training. I'll film and share some taolu at some point. And I'll also talk about this overall subject, because, as you rightly point out, it's actually a big part of the story.
