What used to be a high powered tillage tractor is now used as a batwing mowing tractor

Yep, you're right. I remember in the 80's growing up, these were big tractors & If you had a couple of them you were a big farmer. In today's world, compared to the big HP tractors they use now, these tractors seem pretty small.

Our 1486 used to plow, seed, spray, etc. It has since been replaced by higher hp 4wd that are slightly newer than it. Nowadays the 1486 runs auger, batwing mower, and other odd jobs

Really brings back some memories from when we used to have these old tractor’s. I was pretty young so I didn’t get much seat time, they worked but I glad we don’t have them anymore. My dad was not a fan of the doors or the cabs of either one of those tractors. Needless to say… he doesn’t miss them. 😂

The 86 had unofficial buddy seats on top the gas tank. I grew up riding on one with my grandpa. Not only that, you could curl up on it and take a nap. Or fit 2-3 kids on there. Either way, International had true MFWD, they had a good rotary combine via the mid 70’s also. One hell of a company they were.
@TheFarmWolf
@TheFarmWolf Жыл бұрын
My son spent a lot of time riding above the fuel tank. You're right, I think a few kids could ride back there. I think they blazed the trail with the axial flow combines. I believe mismanagement was there downfall.

When growing up a JD 4020 and the IH 806, 1056 were most common. I remember when the nabors got a 1256 and everyone said that was way too big 😂😂. Farming has really changed. Now you don't even have to know how to drive straight through the field. The tractor does it for the kids today 😂😂.

Thank you for watching. My 1066 was the first big tractor I bought back in 1995. I was going to buy a 966, but it sold before I could get it. I found the 1066 shortly after. I was so thankful the 966 had sold, I think I bought the better tractor.

The 86 series also had wet brakes and an optional differential lock. The later model 86 series had different shift levers to make entry a bit easier. I have also seen people put a rear opening door which is really slick.

We had both of those tractors at one time. Now I have neither. The 86 series tractors were head and shoulders above the 66 series. Quiet cab, much more comfortable seat. The 1086 was a VERY popular tractor like the JD 4440 of the same period and I think the old 414 and 436 were excellent engines. The cons I have on the 86 series were the doors opening the wrong way, the TA lever didn't operate as smoothly as in the 66, since the cab was moved forward the starter was under the floor in the cab and was very difficult to remove/install. When IH came out with their last series tractors (50 series) I think it was their Hail Mary to save the company. The CaseIH Magnum 70 series were mostly IH and they were going to be the next IH tractor. If they'd held on long enough to get the Magnums out, IH would probably still be in business today because they were the best tractor on the market in the late 80s. Just compare a 1988 7120 to JD or other tractors of that time. A CaseIH salesmen told me that when the Magnums came out they took in a lot of JD tractors on trade for the new Magnums.
@TheFarmWolf
@TheFarmWolf Ай бұрын
Lot's of good information, thanks for sharing. The TA handle on the 86 is a lot stiffer for sure & removing the starter, man what a pain. I think the two engines would last forever. I wish IH could've held on for the magnum, it sure would be nice to still have the original IH company around.

We got the white cab on our 1066 but we got a rock box on it. I think ours is a little newer because we have a plastic grill on the front of our 1066. Vary good informative video. I think when we bought our tractor they said that they turned it up to 140. Could be we never dynoed it. Cool stuff

The first 66's Int regular cab side windows didn't open. Later models had side opening windows. Liked to have used one with the Hiniker cab with all the window openings available. I prefer the 66 everyday over the 86. 86's positive was a larger fuel tank as standard equipment.

When they had the 1066 they put the shifter in the right place then some genius at IH decided to block the door and put it down by the front door that's where you have Engineers that need to get out in the field and drive them so they see their screw-ups boat tractors a good tractors we have one of each at one time now we got to the 86 series and magnums

With the IH cabs for the 66 series, I believe the diamond and.white deluxe cabs only had the doors and rear window that could be open or closed as the side windows were slanted in the back. The red deluxe cab had square side windows that could be opened. Like you said, without air the Hiniker/Year Around cabs were better. The 86 series built in versus mount on was better for sound protection and air conditioning, but why they changed the direction of the doors opening is beyond me.
@TheFarmWolf
@TheFarmWolf Жыл бұрын
Yes I think you're right on the other cabs. The door direction being changed on the 86 series is something I never understood, makes it twice as hard to get in & you have to fight the gear shifter & risk falling out backwards. Probably an engineer/designer that had never been in a tractor came up with it, lol.
@daleschmieg9050

@@TheFarmWolf - when I was on the farm, we had no tractors with cabs, our biggest one being a 706G. My brother now has a 966 and 766 with Year Around cabs, as well as one on the 706, while he also now has a 5088 on the farm. I think improvements were made on the 50 series with shifting on the right side, which makes it easier getting in on the left side. The 5088 built in cab with air gets all the heavy tillage work along with any harvesting on a hot humid day, but those Year Around cabs sure are great on nice days or even on the chilly side.

@@daleschmieg9050 I do like the looks of the 50 series cabs, I think the movement of the shifter for sure helped. The hinkiker cab on my 66 is sure nice in the winter, even with the heat not working the wind break in sure nice.

The 1086 seat sits ahead further giving it a more of a teeter-totter ride instead of a abrupt bump right over the axle on the engine 1 Breeze out of the valve cover the other breeds out the side of the block 336 I think is the number on the engine that breathes out the side of the valve cover both good Motors
