When they start swinging the weapon around and moving, they look like a very dangerous maniac. It also must be fairly tiring and heavy.

Well I can only speak for myself, but for me it did get strenous pretty quickly. But you gotta keep in mind that I'm a fairly small woman and it was also the first time I really used that weapon, so I didn't have the right sort of muscles yet.

A montante commonly weights between 2 to 2.5 kg and are well balanced, they can be used with techniques quite similar to longswords but with less corrections to the strikes and more dependence to the inercia. They also make large and broad swings because a greatsword was meant to be a battlefield weapon, so no 1v1 duels but 1 v X fights.

These zweihanders look like giant rapiers a case of evolving an historical weapon to modern interpretation of historical fencing

The swords we use are partly simulators and slightly thinner (about 2-3kg) to train for hours. In addition, the museum exhibits are mostly ceremonial swords worn on the shoulder to impress. They often weigh 4-5kg. Nobody, except maybe the Clegane brothers, can use these 4-5kg weapons efficiently.

Wish I could have been there. Where can I buy the lecture and class videos or transcripts?
@DreyWunder5 жыл бұрын
I am sorry but the documents are not for sale. One possibility would be the speakers directly to questions. For example in Montante Swordsmanship Group.

Hi, I realize this comment is a year old, but I can talk from experience on this. I own several different kinds if swords and staffs, most sword practice will really build up your forarms and shoulders, as well as help you with endurance training. Most of the work you see done, with any kind of sword, requires a lot of forarm strength, and will help build it quickly! If you want biceps, pectorals, back, and abdominals the best bet is a good work out routine at the gym. That supplimented with sword training leads to wonderful results!

Been studying longsword for a while and would like to start some montante, who would you recommend going with for a steel? I was thinking Regenyei or Kvetun?
@googleuser20162 жыл бұрын
I'd go for steel, because sparring you only can do with foam if not holding back, steel has the correct weight and balance e though. And if holding back you can as well use steel. One Steel, one foam and a lot of friends with different foam swords and you are good to go. After quite some time with solo drills at least.

I know someone who ordered ad Kvetun and was not happy with the quality. She was sending it back and now the package is lost on the delivery, because of war most likely. I'd go for Regenyei, just to not get any trouble.

My Regenyei Doppelhander (Flamberge) is just fine. Very lively in my hands and the edge seems to be proper for training

Greatswords are deceptibly nimble, don't believe on fantasy's oversized chunks of metals (cough cough, dragnslayer, cough cough).
