International titleholders are joining beauty pageants AGAIN and it's getting WEIRD...

---------------- Winning an international beauty pageant is a dream come true for most people. Especially for those who manage to win one of the BIG FOUR titles in the pageant industry: Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International and Miss Earth.
However for some reason in recent years some international titleholders have decided to risk it all and join beauty pageants again.
Katherin Espin, Miss Earth 2016, just announced that she would be joining Miss Universe Ecuador 2024. This was a shock for the pageant community since it's very rare to see Alpha titleholders competing at another Alpha pageant.
In the past, we have seen titleholders from beta pageants join alpha pageants which seems to be "okay" for most people. Anntonia Porsild, Miss Supranational 2019 joined Miss Universe Thailand and ended as a Miss Universe 2023 first runner-up. Lara Dutta from India managed to win Miss Universe after already being crowned as Miss Intercontinental 1997.
In the past, Valerie Hernandez, Miss International 2014 announced she would be joining Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2018 but withdrew ahead of the competition.
Katherine Espin's decision has started a wider conversation about titleholders joining other pageants. Is it okay to "chase your dreams" regardless of putting at risk your international title and burning bridges with the organization that gave you a platform?

The title of the video is actually...... "International titleholders are joining beauty pageants AGAIN" Meaning, that Luis is stating about the "winners" not the runners-up. Obviously, if a candidate didn't win then she can join again.

I think if you are already a title holder in an international arena previously then they should be disqualified to join again on any international pageant to give way to those who are also deserving the crown.

By this move.. I think that ME should safeguard their brand,, they should follow the MI bound contract for winner...if this trend for ME winners will continue ,to join once again .. the brand will be demoted and will appear as minor pageant, after years of hardworks just to uplift and elevate the brand.......

@@carloscuevas9841but ultimately there is no official organization saying which is a major pageant or isn’t. In the end, Miss Universe and Miss World will always have name recognition. Miss International have decades of legacy and Miss Earth? Unless you follow pageants, the average man on the streets never heard of it.

Former international titleholders of major pageants have joined other pageants before, particularly Mrs pageants. Miss Universe recent no age limit and allowing married women changed the game, it is a matter of time when a random Miss World or Miss International in the 50s to the 90s might try their luck at Miss Universe if they are legally allowed to do so.

Only Missosology declared a Big 4 , but in reality, there is only 2 major pageants--MU and MW as most women consider them the most coveted.

Ms. Earth is only minor pageant. Gina Cassandra Swainson of Bermuda almost hit 2 titles back in the days. 1st runner up at Ms. Universe then same year Ms. World. Whats wrong with that? She was the closest.

Its truly ungrateful and disrespectful to miss earth. Another girl given opportunity would've cherished Miss Earth title, organizations need to make sure girl they're given crown to is faithful enoug. It's fine for runner-up to compete again but not for winners of big 6 pageants

The only mega pageant shoud be MU, MW and MI. Miss earth is a minor pageant for countries in Latin Ameica so that's why I don't think is such a big deal for her to compete just look at the numbers. Miss earth doesn't give you any popularity or relevance!!!! If a MIss world compete then I woud find super strange and weird but the other are just small pageants!!!

This happens because the pageantry brands have little or no brand equity. Thus, the winners who are supposed to be the face of the brand can easily switch to other brands later. ME is supposed to have a certain brand imagery, much different from MU. If their respective brand ambassadress can easily switch sides, that means that each brand personality is weak. Imagine if Cristiano Ronaldo who is the image model of the power brand Nike brand suddenly switches to Adidas. The fans will be confused.

From the looks of it if I have to red between the lines, the cons outweigh the pros and I share the same view. Sometimes , being right (in this case, her right to join MU -Ecuador does not always translate to doing it right. The virtues of prudence and sense of propriety (delicadeza) have somehow vanished in our vocabulary and culture and in an era where absolutes or standards have faded into oblivion.

I am personally support with that if any contestant who is calibre to pull a crown for their country and they are not win their first peagent competition they can go to another peagent and because that will help them also for the country to be crowned by that major peagent But participation of the winner of major peagent going to another peagents is like wtf 😒 like you are thinking that you are going to another pageant for your benefit or motivate no it is not like that you are just disrespect the position where you win and forcing the next major peagent to crown you because you are the former winner of the major pigeant so definitely they should give you a perfect position Eg- Miss universe Thailand again partisipate when she already miss supranational it is like you are disrespecting first miss supranational organisation that you are going for the next Peagent and the second is your forcefully telling Miss Universe organisation to give you a perfect position because you are the former winner so they have to give you a position in the top three position or runner up its wrong I am not saying she did wrong but it clear that you are a winner or they can't place you below top 5 .

These pageant titleholders should work to uplift the image of their own pageants which they won instead of using their title as a stepping stone to a bigger title.

Because Eco Intl is not Filipino owned. I see there is a manic desperation from Pinoys to make ME to be recognized as a major pageant. I think it is time we see that there is really a Big 3. Even then, it’s debatable as MU and MW have name recognition way above MI. ME is really on the level of Miss Supranational.

There is nothing wrong with that. It is just that most of the pageant fans are toxic. We all know this. They bash queens that gain weight, they bash queens that do not interact with candidates they love, they bash queens who make it to the top 20, 10, 5, 3 and say that their favs deserve more than them, they make hot picks that underestimate countries with weak(? I don't know what term to use) sash factor, AND SO ON. You can never satisfy them. The world of pageantry is full of judgements and assumptions. All they do is fight with each other and then leads to body shaming each others' candidates. It doesn't matter if people think international titleholders who compete again are greedy. You can never satisfy them. If competing again can expand the potential for them to spread awareness regarding their advocacies, then why not? Yall say give chance to others, well, don't worry about that. If you favs are better than those international titleholders who compete again, then they will beat them. If they are not, then they lose. Simple. If u have won once, u can always win again. As long as you are alive, just keep winning and winning. Losing is a part of growth and when u lose just get back up and fight to win again.

I have a question: why the Hypocrisy though? So it’s okay for a girl to go from Miss Universe to compete at another international pageant, but not from another pageant to Miss Universe? I don’t recall Lalela Mswane (2nd runner up at MU) going on to WIN Miss Supranational getting as much heat as Anntonia did.

The Big 5 winners should not join anymore. Yes, I said big 5, because I consider Ms. Supranational one of the biggest pageants there is. I believe that if you win any of these major pageants (the big five), MW. MI. ME. & MS. You can't join any of the remaining major pageants. reasons? For branding, to be content, and also to be grateful, be respectful, not just to yourself but to the organization that gave you the crown. Thats why I nvr supported ANNTONIA to win Mu2023 for the same reason why I won't support this Ecuadorian queen; I even bash ANNTONIA actually during the pageant back in November. and now there's another one from Ecuador. I can't say her name because it makes me mad. Too much greed (sabik sa crown). I hope the woman who wins Miss Earth 2016 will not win MU-EC. I hope so! Because GREEDY People NEVER Ends.. and they should not win again!

She can join whatever pageant she wants as long as she’s qualified- but Ms Earth is a major pageant recognized by UN- she made history and gave honor in her country by winning the title, she should have respect to her self and the organization- just my opinion

Unless there's a contractual agreement, or another legal reason, there's no reason that someone should not be able to pursue their dreams or any opportunity. If a pageant does not wish their title holders to pursue other titles, they should add it to the contract. If not, there's nothing that they, or we, should complain about. These are real people, whose lives evolve as all of ours do. Personally, I'm not a particular fan of the idea, but it's not my life or my risk, it's theirs.

Imagine a MW winner will compete once again in MU,,, What do you think of Julia Morley's reaction? Antonnia Porsid had the guts to compete once again, because the MU owner now is a Thai..If that contest she entered was under IMG era/Trump Era.. The switching/glitch in Top 5,, wont happened...and she wont reached that far(MU 1st runner- courtesy of KUDH ANNE(Haloo d Unibars)

In my own opinion, from now on since Ms Earth is an alpha pageant they should not let titleholders join other pageants and put that on their contract starting 2024 (hopefully). Also, Katherine should resign as the national director of Ms Earth Ecuador so she can focus on her new journey. I love her however I have mixed feelings on this and just wish her all the best. ❤

No objection but at least have the common courtesy to inform the organization that handles the pageant that one won before venturing into the next one. Nothing wrong with bringing your environmental advocacy to an older established pageant. It broadens your reach to others who might not consider the environment as important.

I’m Ecuadorian and I don’t agree with her competing again because she’s not only won but also should focus with her ownership of the Miss Earth Ecuador Organization and let other girls compete . Paano mo maipopromote na effectively Ang pagent franchise mo kung Ikaw mismo ipinapakita mo na you are favoring other pageant? Para bang nagtatrabaho ka sa Pepsi pero lantaran Kang umiinom ng Coke. O naging seller ka ng isang baguhang ice cream product at binigyan ka ng freezer, pero karamihan ng inilalagay mo Doon ay Selected at Magnolia products. To think na ipinagkatiwala sa kanya Nina Lorraine Ang ME franchise. Walang problema kung OWN money nga nya yon, but can you assure it didn't came from the ME franchise? But kung sasali sya sa MU at manalo sya, she should resign as ME nat. Director to avoid "conflict of interest". Just like in politics during election. If you still can't get that, then my values in life is definitely not the same as yours.

One day we'll need to seriously talk about how Miss Earth really isn't that major, it just comes from a powerhouse country in pageants. The only other pageant I've seen doing a fraction of what Miss Universe can do for you is Miss World... maybe even Miss International (maybe)

Personally, I do think we should recognise that we are living in a modern world!!!!!!!!! Telling or dictating to someone what they should or should not do is so "old-fashion"!!!!!!!!! If someone chose to want to enter as much national and international contests, then that is their right to do so. Even if that person has already become a winner of an international contest, then if they chose to enter another international contest it is and should be their right!!!!!!!!!! People, stop being so "old-fashion"!!!!!!! Be more "open-minded" and recognise we all have the right to chose to do and be what we want. No one has the right to dictate to another person what they should or should not be allowed to do or be or enter. And no, it is not being "greedy", it is simply being "ambitious". I am sure, this is one of the criteria of all these national and international beauty contests. Ladies, if you have already won a national or international contest and want to compete more, then go for it, it is your life and what you want. Do not let anyone tell you what you should or should not be allowed to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For me, if you have won an international pageant, you must not compete anymore. There are 8 billion people in the world. You're not the only one dreaming of winning an international pageant. Give a chance to others. Do not be greedy. Yes, if you have an international pageant and want to compete in another international pageant, you are GREEDY.

Hi Luis. You did an amazing job explaining your views on Espin's issue. You did not sound biased. It is the simplest, most detailed, and organized thought among many opinions I have seen. Other pageant vloggers could only say she has no "delicadeza" and is disrespectful without providing a logical basis. Other Filipinos apply their toxic concept of "Walang utang na loob" to Espin, they just don't say it out loud. This concept is a form of guilt-tripping and controlling behavior. But this concept doesn't apply to Espin's case because she is not Filipino, and she worked hard to get whatever achievements she has. They weren't free. Some Filipinos treat her like a property they own. Espin is the one being disrespected, not the other way around. It shouldn't be an issue if previous major title holders join another pageant as long as they have fulfilled their reign unless they signed a non-compete agreement covering a specified period. This also applies to Espin being a previous ME queen and currently an ME national director... A different pageant vlogger wants her to drop the ME franchise. Well, it's Espin's choice if ever. People can have multiple roles under different or similar organizations, such as ME and MU, provided they follow contract agreements and applicable laws. To those Pinoys who feel offended by Espin's recent decision- She doesn't have a responsibility to pamper your feelings. She doesn't owe you anything. You cannot limit her goals just because you feel left out. So what if she is a previous title holder? That was in the past. It ended already. Why would she care if she loses MU Ecuador? She probably figured out the probability of not winning. She is attempting to represent her country in the most prestigious and sought-after pageant. If she loses, so be it, it's a competition. At least she tried, rather than not joining and regretting it in the future when she is no longer capable of it.

I beg to disagree Luis, Antonia is the first Miss Supranational from Thailand, that is history for the country, just like Mutya as the first Miss Supranational for us Filipinos. Their wins are historic and nobody can forget that. Also Miss Earth is an Alpha Pageant and if you won that title and wants to pursue another alpha pageants seems to me is like you are not content nor satisfied with the title that you have. Its like giving more importance over the other pageant.

For me. MISS EARTH should not limit its title holdrr from joining otjer platform because it should support women empowerment. It shpuld be that the title holder herself should decide wether to risk the title or not.

Sorry but Miss Earth is not a relevant pageant, is popular because the own filipino people supported. In Latin America is almost obsolete, just Colombia and Venezuela take it seriously.
