it's not just them but their parents as well. SK does not provide for the elderly once they stop working, they have to live off of their children at that point. kids of wealthy families can have much more personal freedom in what they do for a living since their parents don't need to rely on them financially.

Right, it’s about having that safety net if they fail to debut. They can go work at their rich dad’s friend’s company but middle class kids lost out on years of college education or learning a job skill. I’m sure lots of middle class parents also try to kill their kids’ idol dreams as too unrealistic and expensive.

I don’t believe that. These idols families probably use their money to invest in these entertainment agencies that’s why their children can be choose in the new group. These rich families probably have a lot of influence too to help the agencies. Because some idols after 7 years of training can’t still singing live or have stable vocals, and are not good at dance and when you look at their background they came from rich families.

it's probably bc rich families can let their children take multiple classes like dancing, singing and instrumental classes, not many people can have that. I also think rich families can risk becoming a trainee bc even if they fail they will still have money and everything but i dont rlly think it affects them debuting bc we saw so much trainees from the big3 that are rich(like i mean RICH RICH) leaving.

Aside from he mentioned. Nepotism, period. Fans shouldn't deny that. Imagine a rich trainee, that trainee should just train and they don't have to work as part time. Meanwhile, poor trainees have to work as part time. If you are a part timer, you have to split your time and that could hinder your performance in evaluation, unlike those rich trainees who can just focus on what they are doing. Side note, there are some idols who are rich are using their status to have connections with companies.

@@Purpelspy I guarantee that some idols have their families help fund the company to secure their spot or stocks to help growth. I’ve read an article about that and I’ll try to find it if you want to read it, but it’s also common sense. I wholeheartedly believe that some of those rich idols weren’t the most talented trainees during their trainee years, and there were way more promising trainees but unfortunately they lacked money to secure their spot unlike the rich idols who just had to bribe to guarantee their spot. now that’s just a conspiracy of mine but I would not be surprised if that was true. because if you think about the world they live in where money often times is the concern of the people in charge rather than real raw talent, anything can happen.

Umji comes to mind. Her dad is a very successful dentist. To be honest she didn't fit the Kpop beauty standards at all and she wasn't all that talented and it is mentioned that she used a black card to pay for everything when GFriend were trainees. All of that makes her debuting fishy.

Actually a wealthy background makes it easier to take risks. I mean if you look at the billionaires of the world, you will see how having a wealthy family background encouraged them to take big risks e.g. Elon Musk starting Space X. The feeling of "I have nothing to lose"
@Arindam280109
@Arindam280109 3 жыл бұрын
In kpop success depends on both talent and luck, idols coming from wealthier background may not have some worries like how to pay off the debt that they get while training and their parents are more likely easier to convince as they know that even if their idol life fails then they can get another chance , which is the reason why idols coming from middle class family think alot before making up their mind. But at the end in this industry talent doesn't guarantee success. And about if rich idols like these should debut or not , if they have the passion and talent then definitely, bc at the end we audience would love to see a talent.
@truefalse934
@truefalse934 3 жыл бұрын
I would go as far to say that kpop success doesn’t necessarily depend on talent. The reason being, is that is what the whole process of “training” is. There are many trainees that go into these kpop companies that aren’t necessarily extraordinary good at any category: dancing, singing, producing, acting, etc, but show potential of being to be “trained” to master that talent. When it comes to idol groups, I truly believe that every group that has deputed is talented and hard working. There is no group in which I feel is better than another because all share the same dream of wanting to reach a wide audience. I would say that kpop success depends on a little hard work, a little talent, but most importantly and most largely: plain old luck 😕 (example: look at Brave Girls, they are an extremely talented group that was on the brink of disbandment, until randomly someone uploaded a viral video about them)
@Maggihater
@Maggihater 3 жыл бұрын
@BANGTANPINK World Revolution but seriously what’s the significance of a visual position. It’s so meaningless to be called a visual of the group. If they came from poor families, their parents would hardly ever let them do such a tricky and unstable job like the idol one where you don't know if you become a superstar or end up in debts without any income. Especially in Korea, I believe that parents rather want their children to go for admired professions like lawyer, doctor, scientist, etc. rather than being a celebrity. Ending up paying trainee debts if it didn't work out right from the beginning would be a disaster for a poor family, just like financially supporting your kid who gave up their education for idol training and instead of success is flopping in the industry and doesn't have any stable income.

@alzbeta2967
@alzbeta2967 3 жыл бұрын
@BANGTANPINK World Revolution That happens as well, but the reason I stated is way more frequent than the trainees using their parents' money to buy themselves a debut. If you look at the rich idols, most of them had trained for over two+ years anyway (Lia from ITZY, Jay from ENHYPEN, Tzuyu from TWICE, Ten from NCT... the list goes on), so they definitely didn't just pay the CEO and debut in two months after being accepted as a trainee. Plus, then you have the extreme examples like: Suho from EXO, whose family is rich AF trained for over 6 years. Jennie and Jisoo trained for five years. Jaehyun trained for 4 years. And all of them are just a tiny bit from the dozens of others. Plus the other idols whose training period is less than two years usually had professional training paid in their pre-debut years or were already working on a professional level in dancing/singing/rapping/producing, etc., so when they actually became a trainee, they already were half-way done with the training - therefore their training period was shorter.

If they didn't have some kind of talent, they wouldn't have debuted. That's for sure. However, rich kids certainly have an advantage as their parents aren't pushing them to pursue education and a more stable career, as most poor parents would. Poor parents don't like taking risks, and debuting as an idol has very low chances. Rich parents, on the other hand, are more likely to be supportive of their kids chasing their dreams, travelling, studying abroad etc, and would help them financially and emotionally. There's also the added benefit of, if their child becomes famous, it would only boost their family name and bring in even more income. Another theory I have is that looks certainly do matter for Kpop, and many idols are scouted or chosen because of their looks. Being able to afford plastic surgery before auditions MAY heighten their chances of getting in and the company may be biased because they know it would make a group popular. Regardless, idols do need to be decent singers and be able to dance, or they wouldn't have debuted at all. Idols also need extreme drive, and many idols had to audition multiple times and train without knowing what the future would hold. Any idol who has debuted is not one to give up.

@@kamekomiyamora I get what you're saying, really. Momo is a very bad singer, barely has any technique, but she's the best dancer in kpop for females, (edit:in 3rd gen) nothing can change my mind, but I woudn't call her untalented. Because she is very talented in dancing. Those who I mean untalented are those who are not only below average in singing, but in rapping and dancing as well. Those who can't pretty much do anything other than being pretty and rich. Harsh but true. And I don't expect everone to be all-rounder, because that's unrealistic. And let's admit it, kpop is more focused on aesthetic and image than actual talent. Tzuyu is the only member in Twice whom I consider untalented but she's the most famous in the group. People like Wendy, Taeyeon, Taekin and Boa don't get the praise that they deserved.

@@kamekomiyamora in my vocab, a person can be called talented is if she is atleast above average in something. Jisoo is definitely not the best in BP. She could be interchange with Jennie. She still has to grasp the basics of singing (pitch, breath support, legato, intonation, etc) She generally sings from the throat (same as Jennie) and barely supports in anything. I'm not a big fan of Rosè's singing but, she is still the best vocalist in BP. Although very inconsistent since she's a highly stylistic singer, she's the only one who can actually support up to A4 (which is actually not really that impressive), has the most decent pitch, intonation and mixed. Yoona, alongside that Seongyeon(?) Girl, whom I've heard whose family is very rich, are the only ones who are untalented in the group. Dance-wise and vocal-wise, SNSD are quite strong, esp in the latter. Tzuyu did improve her vocals, but only slightly. She's still very weak. I don't see much improvement in her dancIng. She is the worst dancer in the group, not Jeongyeon, period. Sakura is not only a bad dancer, but she's also a bad singer. For pete's sake, can't you atleast be decent at something (but I have to commend her resilience and work ethic, her dancing improved so much since debut, and she got good posture for a dancer.)

Seokjin (Jin from BTS) was already attending Konkuk university which he tested into early admission to with goals to become an actor when he was scouted and became a idol trainee and remained a student until graduation that managed to attend classes more than some professors while being an idol. He only began training to become a singer and dancer when he was already hired and signed as a trainee, not classes paid by his parents from childhood, and he's a perfectionist and works extremely hard with the outstanding artistic results to show. His father also worked his way up to being a CEO of a company in Germany throughout Seokjin's childhood, Seokjin didn't grow up rich. Regardless of whatever the status of Seokjin's family was, Seokjin's goals and accomplishments as an artist in the kpop world are completely his own.

Nobody is saying that each idol did not work hard or achieve their success on their own. However, it cannot be denied that having a more well off background allows idols to be able to pursue their dreams/goals of becoming idols. For example, sticking with Seokjin from BTS, the fact that he was able to be a trainee after graduating college in itself is a privilege because he did not have to face the pressure or worry of paying off his student loans or supporting his family as is the case for students from a less well off background. Signing on as a trainee also means relying on your family for financial support as you are not typically not allowed to work. The channel Grazy Grace has a lot more videos on this topic about life as a trainee. Seokjin is very talented and his hard work cannot be denied but it is also important to recognize that his well off background allowed him to pursue his aspirations. Admitting privilege does not mean that an idol is not talented or hard working but rather it recognizes that privilege allowed them to pursue their goals without the worry of financial burdens as is the reality for many kpop trainees.

We should learn to recognize privilege not so we can hate those with but rather so that we can create a system where society can become more equal so everyone else has those opportunities.

However, if you try to argue idols got there by money and not talent I present you the big companies, which don't have such cost, just the most talented get in. There's also the fact that while you're a trainee they give you almost no money to live on so the living conditions can be really hard to manage if you don't have extra money. GOT7 regularly mention that Mark used to buy them all good food when they were trainees, but that was because he could afford to. That being said, Bam Bam did not come from a rich family but he is now one of the most successful idols in Thailand alongside Lisa. I think the company does this for a couple reasons. 1) they just don't want to spend money but also 2) if a kid is willing to go for years eating ramen just so they have the chance to debut, they won't likely leave for any other reason. It's a way of vetting who will stay regardless of the abuse they sustain in the system.

there are many korean kpop insiders who have worked in the industry that have talked about this issue on youtube. a lot of agencies have a preference for kids from wealthy or at least middle class backgrounds because they are thought of as less likely to get into trouble before they make their debut. if you are a kpop trainee who come from a poor background you are vulnerable to shady people in the industry and are susceptible to various temptations along the way. you definitely have to be from a wealthy background if you are a foreign kpop trainee because living expenses in korea are not cheap. the agencies dont wanna have to babysit these kids and they dont want to deal with something from their past blowing up when they debut. this is the biggest reason why these agencies like kids from financially wealthy families.

But when I saw her bedroom it's like a good room and doors like this... But haaaa idk

I think Blackpink is the only kpop group where ALL the members came from extremely wealthy family Jisoo: Her dad is a ceo of a really big compagny and he has contacts with a lot of korean celebrity in the intertainement industry. (Actors, idols and model). All her family members are actually really rich. Jennie: She moved to new zelend and was supposed to continue her studies in Florida wich is HELLA expensive Rosé: She came from a family of lawyers and she moved to australia in an expensive erea. Lisa: Her stepfather is a FAMOUS chef. Hes surely rich as fuck

I was waiting for this one, I agree with what others have said about the wealth being a safety net but I don't hear too many mentioning the other side for instance a lot of wealthy people would perfer to stay out of the spotlight and having a local/world famous child definitely won't allow that. There's also parents that may want their child to continue the family business or go another more stable path. Just because the parents have a safety net doesn't mean they fully support their path a lot are actually asked during their training to "quit and come home". At the end of the day talent, skill, and dedication are the only constant in the industry you can only get so far if you lack any of those.

This is not personal towards any idol, but generally when someone from lower income families want to go into the arts, it's seen as a risk; when it's someone rich, it's seen as just someone following their passion, as if their more evolved and sensible enough to appreciated that kinda of thing. It's the reality of capitalism.

there's also a link between richness and talent. We know being an idol is hard and it took tons of talents too. But here me out, a richer kids have more access to get singing and dancing lesson way before they become a trainee. They can easly took that course plus buying all the things they need to have. Meanwhile for middle to lower class people their parents need to think about it for a really long time to take them to singing or dancing lesson. Unless you are that talented or your parents want to improve your music and dancing skill, it is very unlikely for them to take you to singing and dancing lesson. They'll choose to spent their money to take you to after school class that can help put you in top universities. So in the end bigger companies who seek for great talent will mostly ends up picking kids from rich family

Most idols don't have time to go to school once their training get serious/when they debut. A lot of them stop at a high school degree and in some circumstances, there are idols who only finished middle school. They need to have a financially stable backup plan to fall on if things don't work out because they literally could end up as a high school drop out and fall further down in terms of social status. These days, education is the only feasible option for social mobility and so only those who are already at the top have the privilege to chase their dreams

i feel that they still deserve their fame. Just because their parents' are rich, it doesn't mean that their path to being an idol would be any easier. Twice members still had to work hard to become Twice. And I do believe that they deserve their spots. they might've gotten there a little easier, but if they're not good enough, they're not good enough.

SM training is gruesome, that why their artists are always so well received
@ppfle
@ppfle 3 жыл бұрын
@@maddiphen2538 actually the reason why their training is 'gruesome' is because sm doesn't only train their artists in dancing and singing, the trainees need to take modelling, acting, hosting, communication classes and etecetra. And if you're a foreigner you need to take a language classes. (I remember watching/reading this somewhere back in 2014 or something) and of course, if you have a mediocre skill in singing there is more pressure to push yourself hard since their trainees need to excel in that, above all. That's why they have a long period of training and some trainees leave after some time. But on the bright side, their artists become all-rounder and can pull off many concepts easily. Plus, they can survive the industry no matter what happen.

Big 3 don't charge for training. That makes it extra sad in a way. The poor kids are more likely to end up being taken advantage of by small companies. Rich kids stay rich and unbothered. Edit - apparently with Big 3/4 it's no trainee debt, not free training as such. So if they leave they have nothing to pay back.

@@oyinolubayo7079 I was slightly misinformed. Big 3 trainees (and I believe Big Hit now too) do charge for training, but if the trainee leaves or doesn't debut they don't have to pay it back.
