INTERVIEW: Bishop Stephen Zondo refutes allegations of power abuse

From allegations of sexual abuse to financial exploitation against church members. These are some of the harrowing allegations against the leader of the Rivers of Living Waters Church, Bishop Stephen Zondo. A number of former members of his Evaton-based congregation in Gauteng approached the CRL Rights Commission with grievances. The Commission held hearings on the accusations that include rape and murder. But the accused church leader Zondo says he is innocent. Saying his church has been targeted by the commission and former members. Zondo spoke to our reporter Maageketla Mohlabe at the church office in Evaton, in the Vaal.

I like the interviewer, calm and collected. He acts very professionally and maturely. Listening is a skill, especially, listening to a person who controls the minds and emotions of the masses. The idea is to let the guest speak.

That also raised eyebrows for me. He didn't even mention the Holy Spirit as the one that causes congregants to fall or manifest when being laid hands upon. All he did was play victim and deflected questions by racialising and politicising this interview. Conducting this interview was pointless, makes one to wonder why he even agreed to it anyone, why the SABC only and why not afford Newzroom Afrika, eNCA and other news outlets the same privilege? I'm glad Solomon Ashoms has covered him extensively through his exposés of "charlatans"

I do not see a point of this interview, they expected him to confess to say that he did do these things that he is accussed of, I just think it's a publicity stunt on SABC part. There are enough witnesses to take him to court and possible be arrested for his alleged crimes. Interviewing serves no purpose.

That has been the purpose of creating CRL from the beginning to go after evangelical churches. The other big evangelical churches are to follow, you will soon hear them questioning Tithes and riches in the church. The mentality is that the church must always stay poor to be a real church.
