I just watched Gary in the film Powwow Highway. He was magical. Roger Ebert wrote of his performance: "One of the reasons we go to movies is to meet people we have not met before. It will be a long time before I forget Farmer, who disappears into the Philbert role so completely we almost think he is this simple, openhearted man - until we learn he's an actor and teacher from near Toronto. It's one of the most wholly convincing performances I've seen."

Keeper? I like skins. He has my uncle's name in that movie. Who has his song played on that movie as well. Smoke signals is alright. I like the roll he played in that Sioux City movie with that Lou guy.

He shared one of my posts from when I went to Standing rock. I had a small apartment room down in mexico all paid for the winter, and I couldn't go on any vaca seeing everyone getting sprayed with water (cousins, college friends (IAIA) who went there. Bought a cheap subaru with snow tires, and drove there from NY. But I couldn't believe he shared it on his page. was a real honor.

I feel like I love him. Even though I don't know him. I feel like if I knew him, I would love him. Like he has good energy. That's rare. Not all actors have that. Not all people have that. I feel like he's magical somehow.

I love when he pretends to talk like the "white man" and does that funny lip movement...so funny. I still appreciate that whole scene when Nobody describes his lot in life and the "white man's trick" of moving the whole town ahead of him. Nobody is one of my favorite movie characters....top 10 for me - all time for sure.

Thank you for posting this interview. I read the rather negative reviews below, and think, 'so what?' He was outstanding in the two movies I've been able to catch him in, first being Powwow Highway, and then Dead Man....and now this interview this many years later. I find him to be honest with the experiences he's had as a Native living and educated in established America -- and finding, and living the truth of his own spiritual highway. A-ho.

Watched Dead Man last night and was blown away by it. What a wonderful interview this is; I could tell Gary was an interesting guy but he says such amazing stuff here. I've got to say, this is really well edited - there's so much smoothness between every question and it all flows so perfectly together.

I once believed in you Mr. Gary Farmer, but not after what you perpetuated on our artisan brothers and sisters at your farce and debacled gallery in Santa Fe. Shameful!! And with no apologies rendered to the artists and patrons who once supported this initiative?? At least be thankful that no one pursued this in court which allowed you a clean and graceful exit.
