The funniest part (which also triggers me the most 😂) is how they mock the idea that while junior JS devs love JS, we have senior JS devs who desperately want to let the world know they are self aware by constantly saying "I KNOW JS is not perfect" and recommend other languages instead...but still continue doing everything in JS

The junior dev is like someone who just befriended the popular guy in the school and is all like "He's so cool", and the senior dev is like popular guy's old buddy "hehe, yeah, whatever (js)"

Familiarity breeds contempt. But Javascript is designed to do front-end stuff and has severe limitations. Using it to do markup (say with jquery) is fine. Building enterprise apps in it, is generally a bad idea*! Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should! I mean it doesn't even have an integer type! *exceptions apply.

I'm so glad I'm not a full on JS developer because the pace of new libraries and versions coming out is redonkulous!! Like this video points out, the new stuff isn't necessarily better it's just different. How do you keep something secure when libraries are changing so fast?

Funny, meta-funny. Cause when it finally came to me what JS really is (made the connection from all the way down from x86 to event loops and threads and stuff), it was clear I don't need any of the typescript/ES6 jabbaification csharpification shenanigans, and callbacks all of a sudden made sense, this and that made sense. This was quite a few years back, but since I remember I had to understand this on my own, I figure there were very few who did understand it at the time, the rest just timezone-developers yes sir.

Still in other environments I never saw full rewrite 5 times... I constantly see that in web. And I really mean full rewrite. One of my current customers also are on their 4th version of their app, which to me is crazy (and the fourth version codebase is not at all - NOT AT ALL - without architectural issues that I can spot on the fly immediately. To me it looks like on web no one really understands architectural design over some mid level... Crazy.

so glad I ditched js def. after only 3 try outs, all years apart. This convo confirms my hunch. Why are so many "high end" it recruiters ex React/js? The reason perhaps starts with the lettre c.

The sad part is if he was not wearing this ridiculous beard, could maintain a serious face, and had said all of these things, most JavaScript developers would take him seriously. Most javascript developers sound like that to me. No one does anything anymore because "There is a package for that."

Find a uni that doesn't teach JS. The one I went to did not, and frankly I don't know any friends that learned JS in school. We all learned C, C++, Java. I also learned Haskell, Lisp, C# and a bit of Python. And that's for good reason. JS is not something you teach or learn. It's something you use. There is little you can learn in JS that is applicable to learning other languages. It's a dead end. If I learned a uni was teaching JS as anything but an elective you can take in your fourth year to get ready for job hunting, I would ignore that school completely.

if you "need" to REWRITE your application just to update some random library ... you're doing several things wrong at the same time **and** you chose the wrong tool for your work. That easy. Almost all JS programmers are no developers. Basically, JS is a nursery school for programmers.
