I love listening to John He was so fascinating with the way he spoke and his knowledge was incredible What an amazing man and what an incredible racer without a doubt one of the top 5 greatest racers of all time not just because of the fact he's the only man to have truly mastered both 2 wheels and 4 and become world champion on/in both types of machinery but also because he faced many other legends in his time such as Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, Jack Brabham, Geoff Duke, Gary Hocking the list is endless and he beat them all He won an 287 races in his entire career 252 on bikes and 35 in cars in 1955 alone he competed in 85 races and won 68 and then in 1959 he become world champion in the 500cc and 350cc class and won 16 out of 17 races he raced in that year and also he made some fantastic comebacks in his career too and he was a great teacher for other motorcycle racing legends such as Mike the bike Hailwood, Phil Read and the doctor Valentino Rossi RIP Sir John you will remain a true legend forever 🏎🏍🇬🇧🏁

a picture of John and Mr. Hartel and my dad sat on my granny,s T.V. for years. Wish I still had it. My dad was the navigator for them when they were racing around the streets of Belfast and not even in a proper race. Had to be about 1957 then.Definitely should be Knighted!

I can't help but wonder what it would be like to listen to Joey and Robert get on about their early days on the roads. So many good men and women lost, but not forgotten.

John Surtees didn't need a peerage. He was a real Man. That doesn't need a title in excess of itself.

With all do respect to the British people the fact that this extraordinery gentleman, racer, champion was not knighted means nothing, simply because the British royal family has no legitimate authority to aprove or dissaprove of anyones career, it is sad that anyone still cares what the royal family thinks. Mr. John Surtees is a legend for millions of people around the world and that is the essential thing. As an ex racing driver in my sixties ( I rallyed in Fiats and Saabs in the seventies ) it would have been an extraordinery privilege to meet Mr.Surtees which I could not say the same about the members of the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha bunch ( the Windsor family ). I did get to meet other legendery racing figures such as Ari Vatanen , Stig Blomqvist and many others.

John was such a modest man I doubt very if he would have wanted sir when your good at things you make things look easy
