Ok Tony, heres my idea of a small compact trick board. Start with a smaller lighter motor, 4 or 5 inch hub. Make the board size somewhere between a pint and a xr. Then integrate a swappable battery. Swappable battery means you can use a smaller, lighter battery. If your battery dies just slide in the spare battery that you keep in your pocket. Design it so that there's a latch on both sides of the board to release the battery then the battery slides out the back . The battery would be encased in its own shell with its own bms. The connection would be made similar to a power drill battery to where the prongs can move slightly to prevent stress when hitting bumps. And make the connection prongs out of a non corrosive metal.
@MaxxSend

love this idea and how you shared some ways to implement the swappable batteries concept! can swap batteries with original range, extended range or higher voltage! In terms of size what you're hoping for is a growler size (0.75" shorter than XR), which is perfect trick board size. For the smallest, most portable board smaller than pint would be awesome. I'll send this to Tony, hope he creates something like this.

The prongs (+ and - power contacts) will need to be copper with a nickel flash and gold plating or they won't work. That's the only contact material that'll last more than a couple years in this application. Anything else with that level of vibration, water, contamination, etc will get fretting corrosion or tarnish. You could also silver plate it because even if silver gets an ugly black and green tarnish it'll still have high conductivity for high currents.

A super small/light board would be not only a fun parking lot trick board, but even just a quick coffee ride or errands board (if the distance is short). Make the battery easy to remove/swap, and keep it under the airline travel capacity restrictions, and I'm sure a lot of Onewheel addicts would jump on it, especially if priced low!

an ultra small yet still punchy board would fill in so many of those little moments where u just need a quick rip. Quick swappable batteries would def be a game changer! If you haven't seen Vid's swappable battery design of his VX Wheel check him out kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lcVhdryfrZ3DpYE.html

I was a fairly early ADV order and my board came essentially DOA. I was sent replacement electronics very quickly free of charge with expedited shipping and was up and running. No issues since. Also battery drain has not been an issue - left the board for a month with about 5% battery drain. Super customer support - but yeah ADV might not be for everyone if you don't have riding experience and aren't willing to fix/diag yourself. For the experienced, VESC is a game changer for getting the ride you want.

ADV and GT owner here. Second the "GT as a beginner" aspect, but very happy with my ADV now. Excited about GTV and ADV BM2 (my ADV self discharges much faster than the GT). Would love an air travel compatible floatwheel!!! OMG... Please take preorders! For now, the GT will be my daughter's "trainer board". 😊 Keep out the dealers. The crypto order process is not that difficult and if anything, it may bring more people in touch with crypto, double bonus for them! Shipping to Germany worked flawless and fast. Only reliable shipment tracking would be improvable.

Purchased an ADV 2nd hand and my main complaints are: 1)cracking bumpers 2) handle broke 3) i do a lot of curb drops and already seeing hairline fractures on the rails 4) the app isnt the best 5) bluetooth connectivity issues. People online kept telling me to reach out to floatwheel but i bought it used and i personally dont like fixing things that break. Id rather just buy something that doesnt break. My ADV sits around more than it used too since i use a GT for commuting. Way more reliable and doesnt break or require much assembly /maintenance .

Very cool interview, thanks Maxx! I would not want something much smaller than a growler. Love a growler, because it's basically a Pint but with decent size footpads. I liked my Pint until I got an XR, and now I find the footpads annoyingly small. And this is with size 10 feet. In terms of a shorter board, I also like to keep my front foot at a 45 degree angle, so I also like the XR footpad length. That mockup of the super short XR looks barely rideable to me, I'd be forced to keep my foot perpendicular to the board.
@MaxxSend
@MaxxSend 5 ай бұрын
ay much appreciated dude! fair point, if it were too short it wouldn't be comfortable for larger feet. however if there were 2 versions that Tony comes out with, 1 shorter, lighter, growler size trick board and the other being the ultra small portable, air travel friendly board (with swappable batteries maybe?), that would fill all needs I think. Also if the smallest board were to have wider XR sized pads and flare out like the kush wide, I think that would help a lot.
@DoctorDugong21
@DoctorDugong21 5 ай бұрын
@@MaxxSendFootpad flare like the Kush Wide could work, but at that point there are still size concerns in terms of being able to fit in a bag, so I guess I don't see much benefit in a smaller board with flared pads. But so long as I can get my whole foot on the pad at a 45 degree angle with minimal overhang, I'd be happy. Swappable batteries would solve a lot, so long as it was a quick swap. I'd rather optionally carry 5-10lbs of swappable batteries in a backpack than have it in my board. Not for carrying the board, just to keep the board snappy underfoot and not have it so thick. XR or growler with swappable packs would be ideal for me. 20s2p 18650 packs fit between the rails without removing them from the hub, so it seems possible with a hinged footpad to access the battery compartment. Then 20s1p stunt packs as an option. Though that would still be above the FAA watt hour limit to fly. I don't think anything above 63V is doable under the FAA limit - that's basically a Pint pack. Maybe with some of those exotic sized smaller li ions, but I don't think they have the discharge characteristics we want.

Rather than a small trick board, I’d say go big… as in an 8inch hub - especially if getting near euc-level watts is a goal. That will give more clearance for a thicker battery + controller box, say 30s3p of 21700s, and you might still even have space left to make the batteries modular and flyable, like with the vxwheel. Rails could still be lowered to retain stability. This might give us the power and stability we need to start doing proper big jumps, when combined with remote tilt. Burris already make a 8in tyre too. Seeing as Tony’s got the whole adv platform as bespoke/ not compatible with FM/3rd party parts like bumpers, footpads etc, no need to stick with the crowd’s form factor - just make a big-ass hub motor, build a new form-factor around that, and send it! If it performs, people will definitely pay more than an adv costs for a supreme board like this, and it would be offering something that fungineers won’t do anytime in the near future I’d guess
@MaxxSend
@MaxxSend 5 ай бұрын
interesting idea, could definitely be something to pursue down the road. For sure I think there are merits in going both smaller and larger. However wouldn't an 8in hub require like an 11in tire? An 8in Burris tire wouldn't fit on an 8 inch hub lol but if it were say a 10in tire on an 7in hub that could reduce the board's carving responsiveness. Unless if it were like an 10 in tire that's like 7in wide, with more power in the hub while still being carvy, that would be pretty interesting. Let's see what Tony thinks!
@tuismith946
@tuismith946 5 ай бұрын
@@MaxxSend lol yea the Burris I mentioned is for an 8in hub sorry - it’s a whopping 15in high… rather large but you can easily ride that wide comfortably on a snowboard, and a surfboard most of the time, would just require adjusting a bit of muscle memory. Might be less carvy, but the extra torque/power should compensate with responsiveness to a fair degree I’d imagine. Defs wouldn’t be a trick board though 😅 Even 7in would be legit if it had more copper in the stator than the superflux. Not sure if there’s any other tyres that fit a 7in hub out there but even if there aren’t, it wouldn’t matter too much if Tony made a decent custom tyre for it, like he does with the floatwheel anyway. If the big 7/8in hub motor took more juice than anything else available, it’d only be a matter of time before heaps of people started buying it and 3rd party manufacturers started making custom moulds to fit it anyhow. This is where the future of progression/innovation is at I reckon - I wanna see someone do a jump on the nitro circus mega ramp on a Onewheel one day 😆 we need moooaa powa!! ⚡️

@MaxxSend my GT will send "over-regen signals when I go downhill and the battery is around 50-60%, and the board will stop as if it's over charged. Do you think the drop in controller will fix that problem? I don't want to pay FM $600 for an issue I proved to them was on their behalf by sending them all the emails of customers with the same issues that they fixed free of charge.

About the Distributors, the main advantage is a distributor can sell a completed, configured board which is a barrier for a lot of people. spread the love! reconsider distributors outside the US :) (If they don't sell to US there shouldn't be any threats haha)

fair point, include some labor for assembly and software setup for the increase in price, keep it reasonable and there should be plenty of people. Maybe Tony will reconsider :)

@@laurentbeauregard4666 XR platform is still hard to beat. You just need to either get a lil focer controller or a XR-V controller kit from FW and then a big battery like 75 ME4T or 84V torque pack. Comparable power, more range than GTS.

Addressing the range issue of the new adv 2 (XR version)? How much range is it compared to the GT? GT Vesc sound amazing but we also need mew battery pack (if the old one is losing range) I have 12th size feet, I did not like the Pint compared to GT. So smaller might not be for me.

I wanted to buy the exact product Tony described, but it was not available and I need reassurance that multiple airlines will allow m to travel with it. The grey area of having a board rejected at the airport is a no go for us business travelers.

yea that grey area where certain airlines care and others don't is too risky to deal with the hassle. But if it were a swappable battery design like Vid of his VX wheel, it would be pretty legit.. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lcVhdryfrZ3DpYE.html

why not make the trick board as light and balanced as possible? I would think that the priority for a trick board would not be power. Also would rails also be compatible?
@MaxxSend

yup light and balanced, that's why Tony mentioned having a split 10s1p pack on each side of the board, and possibly having the esc in the motor (not sure for adv 2 or 3 or for this trick board). Not sure on the rails, but if it's smaller I don't think you would wanna use the og adv rails :)

Is the pint allowed on a plane? I would definitely love a board that I can travel on a plane with. The battery is the biggest problem I'm sure. If I could have a board that is legal to travel on a plane with I would definitely buy to add to my other boards collection. As long as it is pretty capable for what it is
@MaxxSend
@MaxxSend 5 ай бұрын
pint is supposed to be allowed on planes because the battery wh is low enough. problem is your luck depends from airline to airline, some allow it without a care, others make a big deal out of it and then force you to leave it behind which becomes a huge hassle. If Tony comes out with that smaller board with a swappable battery, it'd be win-win across the board!
