Wow, never seen any Soylent ads on YT before! I’ve been Soylent consumer since the Kickstarter days, when it was a crazy hacker kid startup-they’ve come a long way, and it’s more like a regular food company, with the hacker kids long gone… still good stuff though, although their subscription stuff been kinda screwed up a little lately

@@ellieinspace Original liquid version, actually. It didn’t change much since it was introduced in 2015(6?), I usually blend it with frozen cherries. The small bottle one with caffeine and theanine is also good. Just checked my photos, I got the first 1.0 powder shipment from the Kickstarter campaign on Sept 27 2014! It used to be quite controversial thing back then, Arstechnica covered it a lot. Now I see it in my grocery store… time flies!

@@ellieinspace In fact, the early history of Soylent was quite a start up drama, not less dramatic than SpaceX’s (and it seems like Rob Reinhardt and guys were actually inspired by Elon). Imagine, a bunch of yearly 20s geeks trying to make a really complex food product that would cover all your nutritional needs. Sounds like they went through hell back then. As a matter of fact, Ellie, that would be a great story to tell, and someone should do it! Think about it-Rob Reinhardt is certainly an interesting guy to talk to, although I don’t know what he’s up to these days. Soylent is better pay up for that, of course! Or not, up to you…

He's right about getting to kids younger but it can't just be people who show gifts in math. I am a believer that anyone can be good at using math. The problem is how we are teaching it, turns kids off of it. The only kids we tend to get are outliers. Again, Elon wants more engineers but we must create the environment to grow them. Our school system sucks so much it makes that commodity rare.
@Aroo787
@Aroo787 Ай бұрын
I disagree slightly. Not everyone can be good at math to the level it takes to be a great engineer. Everyone can probably make it to basic calculus, but the real math used in engineering (differential equations, advanced linear algebra) is honestly off limits to most people. As it should be. Everyone shouldnt be engineers, just like we all shouldnt be doctors.
@johnnyb8629
@johnnyb8629 Ай бұрын
@@Aroo787 yes, I get your point. One of my sisters wasn't gifted in math, however she was passionate in Micro Biology. She muddled through the math as well as had a few great professors and got her Masters in microbiology with minor in chemistry and has been working at top biotechnology companies in the world. So, not everyone can be top, super engineers, but there is room for good engineers and being gifted in math at a young age just because a diagnostic test says so, shouldn't be the gateway to engineering. There are people like myself that love engineering and physics but were excluded from going in that direction due to horrific public schools, as well as poor math teachers making the subject as miserable as possible. I love mathmatics, but can't perform calculations without assistance from computers. I love physics but must always refer back to source materials if I'm trying to figure something out. Isn't that what we all do?
@MichaelWinter-ss6lx

School? That place you get disqualified for cheating, because no one has ever seen you cheat? And next: How am I suppose to fake an IQ test? So they made me three years older, but that got them even more mad!?! Of course I never saw any results. Hell, some jerk who has never been beyond the river wants to tell me my native language. All wrong. Canadian class mate asks me every day, and every time I respond: "What makes you think I know what they want?". That school, right?!?
@Aroo787
@Aroo787 Ай бұрын
@@johnnyb8629 I understand what you're getting at, I do agree that STEM is not represented well in schools, but I still don't believe we should pull people who arent fit to be in engineering into the field. Personally, if a student was struggling to solve basic integrals or even basic precalculus, I would not advise them to choose engineering entering University. As discouraging as this may sound, I think we need good engineers, not a lot of average ones. I excelled in math during highschool; I finished the entirety of calculus and linear algebra at a local college while still in highschool. And I still had a fairly stressful time most of the way through my bachelor and masters in Aerospace engineering.
@johnnyb8629
@johnnyb8629 Ай бұрын
@Aroo787 yea, for sure, if your struggling and don't have a passion. There are a lot of other areas in science that are adjacent to engineering that are not as math intensive. Personally, I was kicked out of high-school, got a GED sorta. But I got into "engineering " later in life after a life of HVAC field service. I don't consider myself an engineer but I work with engineers. So I got to somehow fulfill my passion even if only by living vicariously through my coworkers. You just can't wholly discount people, no matter what tests they may take. A test is like a snapshot, just a window in that moment.
