Intimacy and Body Security After Going Flat

In this video I get a little more personal about what the first four months have been like after going flat, talking about sex and intimacy and family dynamics that have informed my adjustment after two mastectomies that ended in flat closure. Being flat hasn't caused any grief for me, romantically or intimacy wise, but being low in estrogen definitely has it's challenges.

Hi, thank you so much! I had a double mastectomy, with Goldilocks closure ten days ago and your videos meant so much to me... The honesty, and practical advice. I was well-prepared for my surgery and when I returned back home. I also had all the questions for my surgeon at hand. It was extremely helpful.

Biopsy was the worst for me. It got better from there. Not being alone is so huge. I felt alone, and so I make these videos now so that folks like you don’t have to feel quite as much so!

Have you had reconstructive surgery? If not why?

No--not really. Some would say that goldilocks is reconstruction, so in a way it's confusing, but my small "plastic surgery" was not for the sake of implants, which is what most people mean when they say "reconstruction". I have videos on this, but basically, there are many reasons that I said no to implants--no to extra surgeries, no to foreign objects inside me, no to inflammation and no to feeling as though I have to pretend to be something I'm not. I don't judge those who need and love their implants. I just knew it was NOT for me in all of these ways. I want others to know it's ok if they feel the same.

Your stepson sounds autistic. I'm also on the autistic spectrum. Just tell him about the surgery in laguage he can understand. I'm really glad there is an autistic breast cancer experience study coming up soon in the UK. Being autistic with one boob makes me super odd. NOTE: I've been perimenopausal since my late 30's.
