Miles (George Clooney) spars with Marylin's (Catherine Zeta-Jones) lawyer at a settlement meeting.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Joel and Ethan Coen take on the classic battle-of-the-sexes screwball comedy with Intolerable Cruelty. George Clooney plays Miles Massey, a high-powered Los Angeles divorce lawyer nearing a midlife crisis . While representing wealthy client Rex Rexroth (Edward Herrmann), Miles meets his match in Rex's gold-digging wife, Marilyn Rexroth (Catherine Zeta-Jones). He's impressed by her similarly heartless ways of using marriage to fuel an expensive lifestyle, but he still defeats her in court. With Marilyn looking to get her revenge and Miles finding himself attracted to her, the two engage in a ruthless romantic pursuit to out-swindle each other. Billy Bob Thornton shows up in a small role as Texas oil tycoon Howard Doyle.

The way katherine zeta's hair moves with the wind as her lawyer slams the briefcase close as she starts smiling cause she realized who's the better lawyer was caught perfectly but unintentionally somethings just fall perfectly without planning for it

I see some people asking others what Kershner is in comment replies, so gonna repost a response I wrote here. Presumably it's the name of a case. Sometimes full case names are just shortened to the last name of one of the parties involved, so John Smith v. Jane Doe just becomes "Smith." Miles thinks the outcome of the Kershner case supports his position, so he brings it up to demonstrate to opposing counsel the strength of his argument in trial if they can't reach a settlement. Freddie points out that it's a case from a different jurisdiction (I'm guessing at the state-level given that he mentions Kentucky), so the ruling of that case would not apply to California. So Miles says forget it, but then brings it up again, much to Freddie's chagrin.

@@Pfsif its 50% of "marital assets" so only property that was gained during the marriage. ie if he had bought the house prior to marriage, that house technically would be his separate property and not subject to divorce proceedings

I watched this movie for the first time last night on cable and I have to say it was not really to my liking. For a Coen brothers movie I would have to go with either Fargo or the big Lebowski, even the lady killer‘s was damn good.
