Congressional debate is one of the most unique activities in the world of speech & debate - very easy to learn, very difficult to master.
This video covers the basics of congressional debate. We explain how a round works, the duties of the Presiding Officer (PO), and give you an overview of the different leagues across the country. We also explain how to research for and write congress speeches.
We also exhibit improvement in congress speeches, demonstrate cross-examination periods, and analyze speeches from competitors at 2023 NSDA nationals, the best of the best!
Nick Ostheimer is currently ranked #1 in the country for congressional debate. In 2023, he won 4th place at NSDA nats in the House division, and 8th place at the UK TOC. He has also champed tournaments like the UK Season Opener (twice), Nova Titan, and Blue Key. Nick has coached students to finals at middle school Harvard and TOC.
