His words have been screaming since before he was born really. The US was founded on genocide and horrific commercial slave trades and war. Noam talks about this in his ASU origins event with Lawrence Krauss in 2015. Nothing he’s talking about is new, rather it is at the very least many centuries old. Namaste

@@zombiehampster1397 yes that's what he said also in an interview when he was asked about MLK. He is the dispassionate rational intellectual. The likes of MLK and MX were passionate intellectuals and they mobilized people in the hundreds of thousands, and more. The Civil Rights movement and the gains it made would never have been realused otherwise. Hence they were considered dangerous and assassinated. Hell even Lennon was terminated. Meanwhile Noam has lived very comfortably into his 90s, asking us to vote for the lesser of 2 evils, Killary and Obiden. He has his place, the book keeper of Empires evil.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 03:42 🌍 Noam Chomsky discusses the three pillars of world order established after World War II: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Charter, and the International Economic System (Bretton Woods System). 08:51 💼 Chomsky highlights the dominance of the voices of the rich and powerful in global discussions, often silencing the concerns of the majority. 19:41 💔 The Secretary General of UNCTAD emphasizes the anguish and insecurity faced by the majority in the Global South due to the current economic system. 23:03 💰 Chomsky discusses the unequal distribution of economic benefits, with the top 1% and 10% reaping most of the rewards, leaving the majority of the population behind. 27:44 📚 Chomsky highlights the prevailing norms and conventions that portray U.S. intentions as high-minded and benevolent, despite evidence to the contrary. 28:10 📚 The principle that the United States upholds its high-minded rhetoric at home, but not abroad, remains true, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. 32:30 🤷‍♂️ Central US foreign policy themes, like freedom, democracy, and human rights, are treated as doctrinal truths, requiring no evidence or consistency in their application. 36:44 🌍 The US's support for democracy or authoritarian regimes is often driven by its interests and perceived compliance with its policies, rather than genuine concern for democracy and human rights. 44:14 💡 The US has a history of overthrowing governments that don't follow its orders or lose control, demonstrating a consistent pattern in its foreign policy. 53:18 🇮🇶 The US's involvement in Iraq dates back to 1958 when Iraq was pursuing a nationalist revolution and moving away from the US-UK oil partnership, providing historical context to contemporary issues. 53:48 🌐 The US and UK's use of force in violation of the UN Charter and international law went largely unchallenged domestically, framing it as a non-negotiable policy. 55:15 💬 The principle that the US cannot submit to international law or the UN Charter is widely accepted, even among educated sectors, leading to minimal action from the international community. 57:08 📜 The debate between the US and its allies over whether NATO actions should be "authorized" or "endorsed" by the United Nations reflects the US's reluctance to acknowledge the significance of international law. 01:02:56 🔍 The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UD) was intended to elevate social, economic, and cultural rights to fundamental status, but the US has often disregarded these rights. 01:08:33 💰 Deregulation of finance and capital flow can undermine democracy and human rights, as powerful international financial capital can impose decisions on governments by threatening capital flight. 01:19:37 💼 Business leaders like Rockefeller believed that businesses should take over governmental functions as democratic participation reduces. 01:20:06 💼 Corporations have gained the rights of persons, including the right to demand national treatment, unlike regular individuals. 01:21:04 💼 These corporations operate as internal tyrannies and seek to shape opinions and beliefs through corporate media and the education system. 01:22:54 💼 The ability to challenge these corporate tendencies depends on one's share in privilege and the freedom of society. 01:30:20 💼 The U.S. "war on drugs" is viewed as a means of social control, disproportionately affecting minorities and contributing to incarceration rates. 01:43:28 🏦 US foreign direct investment in Latin America often goes to tax havens like Bermuda, British Islands, and Panama, potentially harming the poor. 01:45:22 💰 The corruption and rottenness in the current system make tactical changes ineffective; the policies involve increasing military and biological warfare abroad and criminalizing marginalized people at home. 01:46:47 🌏 The World Bank and IMF initially praised Indonesia for its economic fundamentals but later acknowledged mistakes as the country faced a crisis; the outcome depends on how the US responds. 01:48:11 🇮🇩 Indonesia's future is uncertain, with potential disintegration and conflicts in regions like Aceh, West Papua, and the Malaccas. 01:55:20 🌍 Free trade should involve the free circulation of labor globally, but the concept of free trade is often ideological, and only a small fraction of world trade can be considered truly free. If Chomsky is good for anything lasting in America I can think of one thing for sure. He can make one forget all about football at least for a little while. We could use more of that just for a start. I lived through the Viet Nam war as a young teenager and missed being drafted in the 2nd lottery held in 1970, the year I was eligible. Yesterday 3/5/22 I watched the debate on YT on Firing Line between Chomsky and Wm F. Buckley from 1969. I listened intently. I learned more about that war and its background watching that show than I ever knew. In that show, Chomsky demonstrated his incredible knowledge and his amazing humanity. Pointing out that the "elites" who dismantled the three bases of the post WW11 system of world order, The International Declaration of Human Rights, The United Nations charter, and Bretton Woods it is clear to anyone living that those principles are still "distasteful" to the elites of today. Of course, Bretton Woods essentially ended when Nixon decoupled the U.S. dollar from gold in 1971. The economic collapse in 2008 was a culmination of western financial practices and nothing has been done to correct it. The recent firing and defamation of the young man in New York by Amazon for trying to organize workers against horrific working conditions is a recent indicator of elite attitudes towards labor and human rights definitely. The fact that the young man took brave steps toward making things better for Amazon workers shows that people have not given up the principles that Chomsky believes in and talks about in this 1999 lecture. That is a great thing.

Lucky meyer Ya in todays world of equality if we have a draft 50% will be women. I remember being in college taught by a strong feminist. I asked her about equality. And I’m like so you think women have every right or should die as much as men? She’s like ya women should die just as much as men. She was the first feminist I met that promoted negatives of equality. But I agree with her I just was shocked she thought that way. If there’s equality between the sexes it should be in every aspect of life even the draft.

I dont know if you will remember the una bomber in the States, i think in the 80`s,, not sure tho. Im understanding him now more so than when i saw an article then watched a documentary on him a several years back. i dont encourage violence in any way, but his message was of how the academic and the science world was giving in to money over ethics at the time when the big foundations like rockerfeller had just begun funding the MIT and other respected establishments as such. The unabomber himself was a bright and upcoming gifted student when he rebelled and of course eventually was captured. His not hard to find on YT and would highly recommend his manifesto for look over as well after watching his documentary. Gotta love Mr Chomsky, he has been lecturing this stuff for years, and has been very much on target with his "cynicism" lol. can have a wicked sense of humour too at times. I love the rare bits of Chomsky humor when they happen...he’s said that , for example, in debates if you are capable of making an audience laugh you shouldn’t exploit that ability to essentially hijack the audience’s opinion of the debate by appealing to them on an emotional level, and he seems to apply this philosophy to almost all of the of the interviews and lectures/talks he gives despite an ability to do so I’ve noticed sometime. But the occasional choam-induced chuckle reflects Alan’s Watts comment that if you haven’t laughed you haven’t learned something

@@leeroyjenkins7635 I respect your response, but, Be careful of saying or claiming anti-Semitic... for as with Israel, and Judah, and Here in America... we have evil having infiltrated amongst us, these are as having men crept in unawares claiming to be something they are not. And it has happened in all nations. Even Jesus revealed that out of the seven churches in Revelation, only two of them was he happy with: why? Because the two being Smyrna and Philadelphia knew and understood the evil had crept in unawares, as Satan himself, transformed (disguised) as an angel of light - 2 Cor.11:14, KJV. Jesus, in His own Words reveal that of Smyrna: Revelation 2:9 (KJV) I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and [I know] the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but [are] the synagogue of Satan. There are those men having crept in unawares, of the many membered body of Satan, “claiming” to be of Judah... As for Philadelphia: Jesus Words are shown in red, state: Revelation 3:9 (KJV) Behold, I will make them of the synagogue (temple/.many membered body) of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. So please be aware, these who Jesus talks Of here are the tares Of the wicked one in Matthew 13:38 (KJV) The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked [one]; Even Cain, was not who we may have been taught or many claim. A closer look at him, reveals a lot about his Father and His children, the kenites. Upon letting the scriptures speak, we are able to gain much. 1 John 3:12 (KJV) Not as Cain, [who] was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. Jude 1:11 (KJV) Woe unto them (the brute beast, evil doers)! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. I thank you for your respect and time to think on these things. Father is going to bring his true remnant back as they are all to be grafted back into the fold and as we all will be able to as well after having a circumcision of the heart and ready to serve our Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Well, first & foremost Chomsky was a linguist, working as a (BRILLIANT) professor of linguistics at MIT. Besides that (and, sorry, I wish I could, but I can't list 'em without, at least, going & looking up a couple examples) Noam was very instrumental, for the most part he & him only were coming up with revolutionary (no pun intended!) ideas and new ways of tackling linguistic problems, etc, he was and still is, referred to in classes in linguistics (not to mention the textbooks). It was in the 1960s - early? middle? I'd hazard guessing "middle", meaning circa 1963-1966 and, of course, shit really hit the huge, giant fan, the one blowing westward! (LOL). Anyway, he is (was?) both (still) considered a brilliant, in many ways unsurpassed linguist, based, for his career, at MIT, in Cambridge, MA, which, of course, he is, but he's simultaneously been well-known and well-respected for his public stance on what he thought needed to be disseminated and available for those who saw the emergence of crypto-fascist "christian" right-wing (a la "John Bircher crazies- 'nuff said, right? (LOL)) and the amazing thing is that Chomsky managed to remain vital and a constant source of commentary on certain world happenings, while continuing to critique as he saw fit, especially the US and so much of the hypocrisy that exists in government: from the smallest flunky to members of congress as well as (or especially, rather) the US President (and they get it, regardless of party ("D" or "R"). Anyway, one of the earlier books he wrote really catapulted him to fame and, well, to those who only had seen Chomsky the MIT linguist, brilliant as they come, the sudden jump into the pool of criticism - government criticism, especially US govt. Well, anyway, the book that helped him rise was his brilliant American Power and the New Mandarins and soon the essays, more books and delicious debates, like on Bill Buckley's Firing Line, where Chomsky sat, quiet, unperturbed, listening to Bill deliver a typical right-wing string of reactionary (with the cultivated East Coast, Yale (eww, Harvard rules!!!) ways of speaking, facial expressions, and, like most of 'em, always pick someone you know (or at least are pretty sure) you'll give an intellectual drubbing, a refutation of the thesis with which the Firing Line guest came. Luckily, Bill didn't always "win".

Here is an idea for you - declare the WEF a terrorist organization since they create/promote/exaggerate fear for a political agenda and one that enslaves people around the world for the benefit of their elite members. How is that for an idea? Man made climate change and the CV19 pandemic were two key fears they created/promoted/exaggerated to achieve their terror objectives. In fact, if I were to pick the top terrorist organization in recent history, the WEF would be my #1 pick. Look at the trouble they have created and continue to create during the last 3 years.

25:00 when Noam points out the accelerating blight of income disparity that defines the new millenium. And this was before the fall of 2000, the similar action and fall in 2009 and the fall of 2020, each going exponentially further than the last. Wonder where it will all go? History knows.

The solution to eradicate inequality is not a complex one. First thing is everyone must contribute to the supply side. That means all the people above the age of 17 must work in the fields of agriculture, construction and all the areas of service provider for 20 hours a week regardless of their original professions or other qualifications.

In practice this doesn’t work because someone has to be in charge of allocating people to different industries, and the underlying value of an industry does not necessarily depend on its labor, so that person can become a gatekeeper who supervises capital accumulation and inequality by determining who gets to work in what industry and thus who will be able to locally exploit the inefficiencies in it when it is centrally planned with an eye toward equality. This is what happened in the Soviet Union in the 80s and 90s with the bureaucrats that controlled the oil and gas industry. Marx is wrong - value does not come even mostly from the surplus value of labor, at least not with modern technology. There are a lot of ways for an economic activity to have unrealized value, and so Marxist allocation of labor by a central authority is usually exploitable, which effectively turns bureaucrats into imperial capitalists in practice.

Chomsky is so good at perceiving the bigger picture, use language to describe a fairly detailed three-dimensional understanding of it, and connect big and small pieces together in a cohesive way. He is not perfect, but he has been doing a great job! Could this be one of the reasons why he is such an exceptional scholar (imo) who dares speak the truth and stand for humanity while not being harassed and tortured for it? We see what happens to so many others who do. We need another Chomsky in the world and we need him now!

Unlike a politician or diplomat, Chomsky does not sanitize his words to convince you. He says it the way he sees it... it's up to the audience to agree with his logic or not. He is not selling anything, he is simply sharing what he knows... we know his depth by simply by following his logic. Thank you Chomsky.

The voices that are heard are those of the rich and the powerful, naturally. There are those that sought to be the voice of the voiceless, their fate hasn't been too happy. Assassinated and silenced. Well Noam why cite Eastern Europe and Central/ South America when this has happened many times in US itself. MLK & MX being the premier examples, in your lifetime.

I agree with most of what you said. Your comment on his examples though, I have to say I prefer his style. We have all heard the 1960s assassinations of MLK and MX, I think it good to provide lesser-known examples of the US manslaughter of civil leaders.

A lot of those people want calamity. Cycles of boom and bust through central banking is the best way to manipulate the innate human capital of the world and just say it’s yours now or else. Create a boom cycle, people create stuff that benefits the system, create wealth, etc, then you initiate a system of bust through QE, inflation, debt contracts or other forms of white collar economic warfare and people then have to give their own financial alchemy to you just to “survive” conditions they create in the first place. Those people know, they just know were too dumb and isolated to actually DO anything but complain
