Just got the Eversense XL inserted about two weeks ago. Took less than 7 minutes and was easy and pain free. Accuracy is amazing and no more skin irritation or having to insert a new CGM every 10 days.

Here are my 2 cents: I've been using several CGM's over a period of 10 years. Firstly started with Medtronic sensor - was terrible to insert, I was a kid an REALLY didn't like the alarms.. Then I tried (sort of cgm) libre - very convinient! Then when I wanted to use Loop I decided to get Dexcom G6 and still using it. Dexcom G6 is pretty annoying to me.. I always get arm pain.. If i'm lucky It passes within a day. sometimes it doesnt.. Because of placement discomfort I would prefer to use something like Eversense..just get it done once an X months and thats it.

I had 2 insertions with the 180days sensor and will fo my next insertion in qbout 10 days. I love It, that you can remove it is one of the biggest benefits. The sensor is so often more accurate then libre that i used.You dont really need to calibrate it 2 times with fingerprints in my opinion, just hit in the same value when you had it for a while now and then and often its so close.It can be sun sensitive with direct sun would be my only negative opinion. //type 1, 27 years old with hba1c 35 from sweden.

Can you get x-rays with the sensor inserted? I'm sure you have to remove the transmitter, but if not x-ray or cat scan approved, this would be a problem.

I'm not diabetic, I'm an investor. If and when Eversense can get the 365 day model FDA approved, covered by insurance, and eliminate the daily finger pricks, why would anyone not chose it over the other options?

Eversense user for over 1 year now , will never go back to dexcom or other cgms, the eversense on body vibrations are a step up from dexcom alarm system , and the daily adhesive never causes irritation like the dexcom did before . ALSO ACCURACY . The eversense is measuring your blood rather than the dexcom and other cgms which measure sub cutaneous fluid . The accuracy is amazing and the procedure is quick and easy , this device has given me freedom , flexibility, and amazing results . Hope insurance covers this device for more people soon this is the future of CGMs!

I’m a Type 1 diabetic who is also an MRI technologist. I had a Dexacom G6 for about 15 hours and could see how it would really help me control my blood sugar. It died as soon as I tried to work with it. I am very aware that it is not MRI compatible but hoped it would be ok for work not actually being scanned. There is a difference. The Senseonics is the only FDA approved MRI safe CGM I can find. Unfortunately in my area non of the Dr use it and my insurance in the medical field is pretty poor.

thx, i use eversense now for 4yr, have now my 4th XL and I am sooo happy with it! I was als an early usr of Freest Libre and i’m happy so many benefit of it. But for me FSL was ended after 14mnths as my skin could make an allergic reaction where the fsl fall off within 20mins after application. The twica a day callibration is mandatory but you’re free to enter the last known value and skip the finger test. The Eversense is sooo spot-on, one could ask who would like to have such accuracy. And relaiable too. It can happen in extreme populated sites the bluetooth of thousend others break yours but connection will allways return after. My last used XLsensor is still in. The medic couldn’t catch it twice, now scheduled with the removal of the actual in use(other upperarm). You are right, it feels so freed to remove the transmitter when one wants(e.g. for a swim). And it feels so safe my body system is closed, not held open (e.g. fsl-tube) for possible internal infections. I am happy with all my scarfs for past sensors, a still witness of freed gluco-stress!

in my humble opinion if big numbers of diabetic persons use this product , company will have enough fund to improve for better product where no pricks require to calibrate . with the help and support from every one i am pretty sure this company will be success to better care

Agree, with interest I see the opinion of different CGMs and that is why there is more than one brand:-) The eversense didn't do any good for me - but it does for other. Some see allergic reaction on some systems - but luckely not for all. Some can only use a specific CGM due to their line of work. So I welcome all systems on the market and the users has to decide or try different CGMs until they find the one that works for them.

Thanks so much for this great video ! I’ve heard about it, but the big 2 disadvantages in my opinion are: 1- The microsurgery that I have to do 2 or 4 times yearly, don’t know but really sounds annoying -maybe because in my country it isn’t available and I have to travel to do that 2- The placement of the sensor in one place, it won’t be comfortable to put the sensor in the same place for 90-180 days

I have had the Dexcom and had severe allergic reaction to the glue. The Libre 2 I have problems with to. I’m looking forward to getting the eversense.

This sounds a great improvement. I have a bit of a reaction to freestyle liber 2 not bad but after some time it smells. When this becomes available to us in the Netherlands I would give it a go. I am active climbing walking also at present DIY. So I can see the point in this for example on the beach. Thank you again for bringing this development to our attention.👍

In the US, I had nothing but frustration with Eversense. Doctors did not want to insert it because the money was not there for them do do this. They then tried to get nurse practioners to do the insertion, but most of them do not have a sterilized facility. I live approximately 25 miles from their HQ and their rep could not sign a doc up for the work. Very frustrating. Lastly, insurance will pay their percentage for the product, but the cost of insertion is the responsibility of the parient. This could run from 3 to 5 hundred US. For a 90 day that could be an additional 2,000 a year. Maybe it is better 2 years later, but for me I saw a company that had a great idea, but did not have the expertise to initiate a product roll out and support sevices

I hope we get more healthcare providers willing to do it, or, I hope that it becomes an option for us as patients to insert it ourselves. Honestly I think that with how popular implanted birth control devices are, that are very similar in size and location, that the company should reach out to team up with healthcare providers that are in different areas, but already very equipped and familiar with implantable devices to maximize their availability to patients. Hopefully they realize the need to make it more easily accessible and affordable because I would love to be on this CGM. I think it's the future of cgms to go implantable.

I don't know... the technology and the solution is indeed very interesting and promising. I personally have a psychological rejection towards semi-permanent invasive procedures and tools. For the same reasons I never ever used the pump. I'm currently quite happy with Libre2 but if it was once a year, and calibration once a week, I would think about that. For now I'll just wait and see how things evolve. It may have some interesting applications for those people with special needs, or probably youngsters who tend to be less constant in the maintenance of the sensors. Nice video and cannot wait for the hands-on review Tom!

My only concern is using finger pricks to calibrate the equipment. The whole idea of all CGM systems is to avoid finger sticks and Freestle Libre and Dexcom seem to have this under control. Am a relatively newcomer to Freestyle Libre and i am having incredible success monitoring my glucose without “finger pricks” which is a game changer for me. Installation is painless and 14 days suits me fine right now. But, I do realize everyone is not the same and several issues (skin irritation, location of sensor, tape problems...etc.) need addressing and resolving. Maybe Eversense is the answer??? My overall recommendation is SLOW, EASY and let the passage of time be the judge before switching. Just saying.....very informative video, Tom. TUVM.....

@@topazxx I'm not diabetic. I'm hypoglycemic due to having a neuromuscular disorder called spinal muscular atrophy. Your body stores glucose in the liver and the muscles but since my muscles are so atrophied.. It can't store them properly. I have incredible doctors. Thank you for your concern though.

Awesome info, Tom! The whole point of me getting the Freestyle Libre 2 was to end the finger pricks..so two finger pricks a day for calibration won't work for me. But one finger prick a week would! However..I don't understand why this needs calibration at all since it is in the same space the needle of a Freestyle Libre 2 is and the FL 2 needs no calibration. That doesn't make sense to me. Buy I agree it would be wonderful to shower normally again! 😉

In general, the finger test is more precise. So when you CGM measure a low or high bs, you need to consider how you are, if in doubt do a fingertest. That apply to all CGMs, when you read the FDA papers for the appliance you realise that they are far from perfect. If the CGM says is way to high, you are about to take a medical decision and inject some insulin, if the BS is to high you are all good but if the CGM was wrong and it is normal or even low, then the decision is not just wrong. You will endanger your wellbeing. As an example you can use the Consensus Error Grid (you need to do around 100 finger tests within a week or so, spread out on the entire day and note the CGM BS value and the actual BS), that yo can put into an Excel sheet (CGM value on Y and actual bs on X) that is the basis of the Consensus Error Grid, here you divide the spectrum into risk zones from A to E. In Zone D and E the logical decision is critical, since you will inject insulin (when bs is actual low) or eat some sugar (when bs is actual high) (www.researchgate.net/figure/A-Consensus-error-grid-analysis-B-Bland-Altman-chart-C-MARD-versus-time-D-MARD_fig7_277722138) End of the day, you'll soon realise that you cannot trust the CGM completely, you need to apply common sense:-) If you do the graph you will learn a lot about your self including that it is not fun to do 100 finger tests!

I was considering this system but I'm pretty comfortable with the G6 and excited for them to trim the size down for the G7. I had some issues with the sensor lasting the full 10 days, but found that if you purchase third-party overlays instead of using the Dexcom ones, you can sometimes get it to last longer than 10 in an emergency situation. That being said my final thoughts, 1) affordability. Depending on where you live, you may have to have your Dr send paperwork to the insurance company to explain why it's medically necessary, since there are less expensive products on the market that do the same thing. Depending on your diagnosis and insurance, it may not be approved. 2) I have seen a few people say that they gave the 90 day a try and it just didn't provide as accurate readings as their previous system. BUT we are all different and managing diabetes isn't 1 size fits all. I love my dexcom and plan to stay there - but would love to hear how it works/doesn't for those who try the 180.

Eversense sounds good but I’ll wait until it can interface with a pump in a closed loop system. Tandem Control IQ with Dexcom G6 has made the greatest positive impact on my T1D control, thus far.

The benefit of a very long lasting implanted CGM comes with its drawbacks, it seems. The twice a day calibrations and 24 hour lifetime of the transmitter is a deal breaker for me, unfortunately. Can't wait to see how this technology looks in 3-4 years!

Agreed, twice a day calibrations is such a turn off...currently i will prefer using libre. Hoping for improvement in one or 2 years (one calibration a week is way more reasonable)

Dang how often do you check your sugar now? Once every other day? I check 3-4x daily so twice a day sounds like a relief. Also I charge my phone every night so adding this to the nightstand a little earlier is fine. Also with prospects of in the future checking only once a week and keeping the sensor in for a year? I'm game.

The Eversense CGM sounds good. I like the option of being able to remove and reapply the transmitter. I am involved in Bjj and had to stop using the Freestyle Libre because there is no way the sensor would stay on during practice. Thanks for the informative video.

I just got the Libre to test out. I am also involved in BJJ and concerned with the Libre on the arm. I ended up getting extra patch to see if that may help but this option seems like a nice option for those who are active in some sport. Just not liking the calibration option.

@@RadThings Eversense has terrible customer service. I contacted them last year, gave them a lot of my personal info and was never contacted by them. I emailed them in January of this year and got the run around. They refused to tell me the cost out of pocket

My first Freestyle sensor worked for 9 hours, but the fell off as it lost adhesion. The second sensor worked for 20 minutes, then started reading very low numbers (59). The real number was 129. Then the second sensor said "wait 8 hours and try again" when I tried to use it. Then after a few hours of that, the reader said take off your sensor and put on another one. There was no instruction to get a refund or how to return it. So, $250 later, I got 9 hours of use from Freestyle. I was expecting 28 days (2 x 14 days).

I had that same problem occasionally when I used Freestyle...but Abbott was great at sending replacements, unfortunately had to wait a few days and do fingersticks sometimes. Hopefully it's working well for you now (unless you switched to Dexcom)!!

@@tennillewalls8142 This a known issue, normally Abbott will replace it. Here (Denmark) we get 7 Freestyles in a package, in a kind of a subscription, so when you a close to done, they send 7 more. That give you the ability to create a small buffer. That's the same with Dexcom (at least here). In my experience 1 out of 15 has an issue.

Tom, great information as always. Currently I am using afrezza, Tresiba, and the Dexcom 6. I have nothing bad to say about the Dexcom, but my dream team toolkit will have the Eversense instead. The addition of afrezza made my T1D life much, much easier and the icing on the cake (which I don't eat) will be this new CGM and the cons you list would not be a barrier for me. I would love to have one that lasts for a year, but I already have to charge my phone every day, adding daily calibrations and charging too? I am not sure. Though, I would imagine it would be more accurate due to the calibrations.

I hope this becomes more backed by endocrinologists than it has been. My endocrinologist didn't want to bring it up as an option for me, but I did because I have been following this cgm development for 2years now. My insurance doesn't cover it. I think if insurance would come around, demand would be there from patients and doctors would accept doing incisions as a normalcy (for how much they make off of us here in the US, they really should not be so hesitant to do better for us). Also, lots of women get similar sized implants in their upper arms for birth control and so if the providers of these implant services could also provide cgm implant services...seems like it's an untapped easy avenue they should go down to help make it more accessible. I'm excited about it. I live close to the beach and my active lifestyle and job dont cater to a cgm that is no good once knocked off my arm. I also don't think its wise to sacrifice any of my activity level fo better suite my cgm...its only a monitor, the active lifestyle is actually affecting my health, they should work together. Hopefully I'll be able to have one soon.

I'm on the G6 and I experienced skin irritation and big time itchiness. You can minimize this from happening by using a doctor prescribed nasal allergy spray. Spray it on the area you want to place your CGM and rub it in with a finger. Let it completely dry before using skin-tac or whatever you normally use. Don't be cheap on the spray, cover the entire area.

I had that same problem!!! And the nasal allergy spray works great!!! I also add 2-3 tegaderm patches over the site and add sensor over that because I've had horrible itchy/red reactions to the adhesive. Thankfully have no problems now. 😃

erm i cant make my mind up yet about this, all im tending to look at is having to still take the sensor on and off everyday to charge it where as with my libre i just stick it on and leave it there until the change. itll be even better when i get to use the libre 2 for the first time in 2 weeks

i was looking into getting the eversense a while back when my endo recommended it cause I kept having issues with my dexcom. prob I figured out later was that while inserting the device does not live much of a visible scarring, when you repeat it a few times every 90 days, after a year or more, it would starting to have lasting impact on your skin and you will start seeing more scarring tissue, I personally like the idea, but won't touch the device till they have it where they only need to replace it once a year or longer.

I'm not too interested in having something implanted in me. The only alarms I set on Libre 2 is my low blood sugar alarm at night, just in case. I don't think I'd want something vibrating in my arm

Tom always great to hear your information on all the CGM‘s started with the G5 Next the G6 now I G7 user I’m very interested in using The ever since CGM when I have my next endocrinologist appointment, I will ask about it and see if it’s available and check with my insurance Which I do have two insurances that cover my current G7 I hope to be using the ever since soon if it is available in the US where I live in Texas till then I will continue watching your videos and decide my next move as it adhesive are use on the G7I have a overlay that I place over the G7 and adhesive. It currently holds up fairly well pending on my activity out in this hot weather which I sweat very intensely until then I will need to speak with my doctor if he has any knowledge of this product?

I do not have a CGM. I live in USA. I think I would go for the 1 year Eversense but it’s probably day long way off so that leaves the 90 day. I don’t like the calibration however. I don’t like the finger pricks so that leave Libra and Dexcom. I understand Dexcom is better for those with lows so I might pick Dexcom. I hear Medicare buys only 2 sensors a month but you need 3. So I still have questions.

It is good that other companies are in the mix of choices for diabetics. It can help to make better products for everyone, improvements, and hopefully at reduced cost. Seems the removal of the Eversense after the 90 days would need to be a bit more evasive. Can the same wound be used for the new sensor or is a new location preferred? Does the transmitter need to be removed to be recharged? As I see it the Eversense needs attention a minimum of three times a day at present. For an active diabetic it could be a lot of babysitting. I personally don't care for the 2 hour warm-up time of the G6 let alone 24 hours for the Eversense. But then again it is once in 90 days. It will be interesting to hear of experiences as more users and time elapses.

I wonder how it's removed by the doctor? I could see it being inserted under the skin pretty easily with a small incision. But it seems the doctor would have to cut the skin open to remove it.

Found this PDF file that shows how the sensor is inserted and removed. Pretty interesting! Yes. It comes out the same way it goes in.... You can re-use the "pocket" and swap the new one for the old one. Twice a year, no problem here. Twice a day fingersticks instead of 6-8/day? Worth it to me.

They are working with beta bionics on a pump that is fully compatible. That is probably going to be at least a year or more before we see that though. Likely will be when the 365 day sensor is ready

I do the finger prick and check it on the monitor. I also use sugar balance pills. I KNOW FOR A FACT it works because I had a level of 265 and I took the pills and checked my blood sugar in the morning and it said 102 and my readings NEVER went above 150 all month long.

2 calibrations a day? What's the point then... you're sticking your fingers almost as many times as not having a CGM. Scenario of 1 weekly calibration and a180 day period will definitely make me want that product. Thank you for your input on this topic. Is anyone else having problems with the Libre3 getting scanned into your phone? I am experiencing a 50 percent failure rate and I'm asking my doctor to switch me to the Dexcom G7. The libre2 scanned in all the time but the Libre3 is a nightmare and a waste of my time and money.

I am more interested about the new glucose monitor from Diamon Tech which is needleless, since I am not a big fan of pricking my fingers or attaching a sensor on my body. Could you please try to do a research regarding that and share us your opinion?

While I really like the idea of it, part of the point is to STOP with all the finger pricking. Since I don't eat very often, I generally only test 2 to 3 times per day. If I had to calibrate it twice a day, that defeats the purpose of paying out so much money for this device when I'd still be spending about the same on strips every month. I'd definitely be interested in the 1x/week calibration, but not in the 2x/day. I'm trying to make my life easier, not keep it the same with more costly equipment.

nah... I like the idea of set and forget for two weeks, versus set and reset every day. That kind of defeats the purpose of having a cgm to me. What they should consider is a device powered by the body heat, or a device that the current from the reacted glucose powers the device. Thats what they SHOULD do. Maybe even consider a small alpha particle battery

it would depend on cost. our insurance won't even cover the freestyle sensors... hopefully they have a way to do this that won't break the bank

I'm not the video creator, but I just wanted to say that my understanding is that the sensor under your skin stores the readings and then transmits them to the transmitter. So yes, I believe that you would not lose any readings while the transmitter is off the skin.

I don't mind the adhesive on my libre and I'm fine with changing it every 14 days, especially since the warmup is only an hour long. If the eversense cgm was considerably more accurate, that would entice me (a libre 1 shouldn't be too hard to beat?), but I'm not too sure on it at this moment

There’s a study out right now showing data supporting that the eversense product is more accurate than both the libre and dexcom. Keep an eye out in June for new data on the 180 day device as the company will be publishing in a journal and presenting the data at a conference. It’s the most accurate CGM currently available

Hi this is probably the wrong place to post this but has anyone come across the increased use of fructose in supermarket foods? For me this is a bit of a issue as it’s not labeled as such and it has given me massive highs until now have figured out due to food diary. It’s in the main modified corn syrup but not listed as such.

After close to 3 month I had to stop using it, I have manually tested my blood 7-10 timer every day and have a MARD around 25 in the FDA specs it should be 10, my top score failure is 90% of!!!!. I have a lot of false low and some high alarms, extremely seldom it was correct. I feel like a complete fool that I wasted so much on it. I've done the exact same diagrams as in the manual and I have nothing close. I cannot recommend the Eversence XL CGM. Its so stressful to be waken several times during the night with false low or false high values!!! I would like to state that, if you try this system, test very closely until you either see it works for you or doesn't work and have to take other measures into account, like get it removed. With that said, maybe CGM systems are just far from perfect? I use the Libre now, and it is not accurate but consistent wrong, when the bs is in the area 5-10 it is rather precise, when the BS is over 10 the libre thinks it's 20 - 30 % higher than when I use the old fashion method. So when it state the bs is to high - it is to high.

Well, I might be interested especially if/when they get the 365 day version. I'm on my 2nd FreeStyle Libre cuz the 1st one ran 35-40% lower than my Accuchek readings. Even worse, this 2nd FreeStyle Libre is now running 45-50% lower than my Accuchek! I am 67 y.o. & do have that annoying sagging flapping wing-like skin at the back of my arms & am thinking that my particular anatomical issue probably is contributing to these poor readings, in other words FreeStyle Libre is NOT for people with my type of "flapping wing" anatomy. Too bad.

I am much younger than you and have normal skin. But, absolutely the same problem with my libre sensors, 3 out of 4 sensors that I use usually show 1-2 mmol lower than my glucometer. So I think your type of anatomy is not a problem.

Calibration once/twice a day🤔 is going backwards and negates the benefit. I could live with once a week, if it also worked with a pump in a semi-closed loop system. But, sounds like they’re getting close.👍
