Roy Clark was HIGHLY underrated as a guitar player. Probably got overlooked because he primarily did country, but he could play any style of music.

The Odd Couple was such a good comedy show about 2 divorced/single guys living together one a slob and the other OCD.

Roy is using a guitar pick. When he gets to the plucking/popping strings, he slips the pick into his hand, so his thumb & 1st finger are free.

Roy Clark was at the top of the list. He and Glenn Campbell had a guitar challenge one time that gave me goosebumps. Two virtuosos together that might not ever be seen again. Roy could also play the banjo and fiddle with equal skill.

"The Odd Couple" was a TV sitcom based on the Neil Simon play of the same name. It was about Oscar, a sloppy easy going sportswriter, who takes in his friend; Felix, a compulsive neat freak photographer after Felix is thrown out by his wife for being impossible to live with. It always seemed like Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street were somewhat based on the 2 characters.

The Odd Couple was hilarious...one of the best of 70's TV classic sit coms.

The actor in the ball cap is Jack Klugman, he was in the movie Twelve Angry Men, he was very young, Tony Randall, actor comedian and director/ producer. Oh course Roy Clark had his own show too, comedian, but a great musician.

I am Gen X, and I know who Roy Clark is. Every Gen-Xer should know, unless they lived under a rock (I guess it's possible...). Roy was a regular on both Hee-Haw (With Buck Owens in "Pickin' and Grinnin'" segments) and Grand Ol' Opry in the 70s and 80s and 90s. He was the highest paid Country artist in the 70s and into the early 80s. He's a legend.

He played all day every day. It was in his DNA -- in his blood. RIP Roy, and please say hi to my dad who introduced me to you in the late 60s. Miss you both!

Roy Clark was live in concert just a few years before his passing when he gave his fans a night to remember! The Northwood of Minnesota came alive with music that memorable night! His fingers and hands were huge, not typically what you see from a virtuoso on tiny frets like a mandolin or the even smaller violin neck. I miss him and his incredible talent!

He was using a flat pick for the most part. Towards the end, where it gets very 'plucky' he's not, but for the rest he is. That is what always amazes me about this particular clip. The sound of Spanish/flamenco music is usually done with 'fingerstyle' picking. I have played just enough guitar to know how difficult those runs are to do. Roy was a true virtuoso.

Highly recommend watching "Midnight in Harlem" by The Tedeschi Trucks Band. Derek Trucks was named the 14th greatest guitar player who ever lived. And his wife's voice is fantastic, blues rock at it's finest.

Felix is played by Tony Randall, and Oscar by Jack Klugman. Tony Randall's work starts around 1950 and he was born in 1920. Jack Klugman went on from this show to star in a drama/mystery about a medical examiner Quincy. Both have extensive bodies of work and were wonderful character actors. Carroll O'Connor, one of our finer actors, played Archie Bunker in All in the Family. It took a lot of intestinal fortitude for O'Connor to play the character of Bunker, Archie was a difficult character to take and my favorite memory of the show is when died in the wool racist Bunker wants a picture with Sammy Davis Jr. and Sammy kisses Archie on the cheek at the very last second before the picture is snapped. Pure TV gold.

Its hilarious and speaks to the times and race relations in the 70's. Did you listen to "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" by The Danish National Symphony Orchestra yet? If not its also a must. Some background on the Odd Couple. The sitcom was about the two guys who were not playing. They were roommates on the show with very different personalities. As to Roy Clark. He is generally considered a country musician. However, he did played many different genres. He did some great classical music, blue grass, rag, and even some pop music. "12th Street Rag", "Folsom Prison Blues", "Duelin' Banjos" and "Orange Blossom Special" are some great songs of Roy's to react to.

ok that's crazy cool. I remember Saturday nights at my grandmother's house getting cleaned up to go roller skating with my cousin. She always had HeeHaw on the television during that time frame. Roy Clark was the HeeHaw dude, so he was always my grandmother's entertainment to me. Years later I went on a vacation to Branson, Missouri. There was the Roy Clark Theater and he happened to be performing. I was pregnant at the time and those hills in Branson were a little rough. We were looking for a place to rest my aching body and I protested against watching Roy Clark in his theater because of my idea that he was lame grandma entertainment. Well crap. I had no idea he was so phenomenal. Wow.

Roy Clark is more famous for being the co-host of one of the most popular shows of the Seventies, called Hee Haw. The show had short segments that alternated between comedy skits and musical performances by some of the greatest Country artists of that era. It topped the ratings for about five years, and had good ratings throughout its twenty year run. He was known as a Country artists. I think that's why so many people have overlooked him when they think of the greatest guitarists of all time. He is up there with the best.
