Nova was in a group home. Her roommate in the group home ended up over dosing years later after the group home. When she said “ no where to sleep so we need to find drugs “ was referring to them having to stay up because they had no where to go or to sleep. At least no where safe. The last verse when she said “ now you’re dope sick in a highway motel alone “ actually happened to a friend. She got a call from him and she went over to help him. Nova has been through some tough shit. She got out of that lifestyle, that many kids in the system don’t get out of. This song was for those who “ weee lost in the park “ referring to kids that ended up dead from ODing , being murdered , or stuckin the drug/alcohol lifestyle. Tom actually helped Nova get sober. After knowing about her struggle, it just makes her music even more impactful.

The park is where the homeless end up in a lot of cities. Not everyone makes it out of the park.

Nova explained that they didn't do drugs for fun. They had to do drugs to stay awake at night. It was out of necessity. It is too dangerous for a homeless girl to sleep out in the open. Nova lived in group home from 15-18 yrs old. Ran away from them and lived with the kids in the park. Her friend was ODing on heroin in a hotel room a couple years ago and that was the first line she wrote on this song. This song is Novas life as a teen. Because back in the day we used to sleep in parks (cant imagine being homeless today with it being illegal basically to be homeless at least around here). This song she wrote for her friends that she grew up with that are no longer here. Love Nova, I'm 48 and this shit makes me tear up.
