So how do you work effectively with a bodyless schitzofrenic split-personality all-knowing genius with a short memory span and an occasional tendency to lie and hallucinate?
This is part 1 of a (hopefully) 3 part mini-series about your very special colleague Kim.
Part 1: Why you probably want to work with Kim
Part 2: (coming soon) How to work with Kim in practice. Examples, tips, tricks.
Part 3: (coming soon) Kim's quirks and weaknesses, and how to work around them

Hmmmm.... there is SO much great AI content being produced all of the place right now. Feeling like Part 2 and 3 might just drown in the noise. What do you think, worth making or not?

There's something really unique about you, about the way you explain things. I was hooked when I originally saw your Minecraft terrain generation video. You've got that perfect blend of approach, humor and charm that make technical topics like this just as engaging to learn, as to how they seem naturally exciting to you. You have a spark that's really rare in Software and all I can say is I hope many future educators in CS / STEM feel just as inspired as me. :) (P.S I hope you don't mind, but that Lumberjack analogy is too good to not share in day to day life!)

Wow, this mini-series sounds intriguing and full of unique challenges! Working effectively with a bodyless, schizophrenic split-personality, all-knowing genius like Kim must require a special set of skills and strategies. I'm eager to dive into Part 1 and discover why we should want to work with Kim. Looking forward to gaining insights in the upcoming parts on how to practically collaborate with Kim, as well as learning about Kim's quirks and weaknesses and how to navigate them. Kudos to the team for putting this together, and thanks for sharing the valuable references. Can't wait to watch the rest of the series!

Great to hear your thoughts on this. As someone who programmed in the past, I am really amazed how sophisticated these AI programs have become and how potent they are. The rate of progression is really insane. Looking forward for part 2!

The video was excellent, in that it actually tells the viewer what cited information came from what cited source, unlike most "informative" channels that just insert a bunch of info into a video and expect viewers to know the origin of said info from their citations in the description. Personally, I would like future videos like this where you not only explicitly go over the cited sources, but also delve a little bit into how said sources obtained the relevant statistics and data, and what those statistics actually mean. I wouldn't blame you if you oversimplified those explanations to help the audience understand better.

100% agree. I have been touting in the office that this is a big deal, but not as a threat, but a revolutionary, (yet just 'another') great tool that we can use to build things. I remember how coding was in the 90's or early 2k without proper IDE support of vcs's. This is another tool that will change the way lots of jobs are done. And if you don't learn it - you will be left behind.

I think it depends what kind of work you're doing. There are still uses for the axe that make it a much better tool than a chainsaw, or any other new fancy tool, but if your goal is to mass produce something, the more efficient tool will always win. It really comes down to your goal: do you want to make money, or do you want to make art? It's nearly impossible to prioritize both at the same time. Minecraft is in a very lucky and special place as far as being an art that also makes people a lot of money, and that's only because it started out as an art.

The profession that I think has been mostly of concern with "being replaced" has been arts, and there's been a number of different points made there. It's cheaper to just ask the AI to make art. This would however mean we need new jobs to verify those, or adjust them (will that be cheaper in the long run?). The AI is also mimmicking. I.e. it is looking at existing art, and reproducing that, it is not imagining new things. (Do humans even do that? Idk, that's philosophical.) As a result of that, there is a legal grey area. Is it art theft? And also, the more philosphical question, is it art? Does it have any meaning behind, does it lose its soul? And I am of course deeply concerned for how modellers, painters, and animators are already paid today. With these shortcuts, how will they be paid tomorrow? What will the world hold for their skillsets? And then there is a question of the final product - How will its quality actually be? Would consumers still buy it? I think there is a place for AI, but we need to work these things out.

Best case scenario, we get equal pay, but shorter work weeks. Something we have been wanting for a long time, but due to greed for money and power, we never have had this equality.

I think corporations will hire less people because the existing people have become effective. Everyone else just starts self-employing themself like freelancing, consultancy, online business, etc., which would be easy because of AI.
