@@flyingfrogofdeath9616 the op-1 now costs 1,300$ if I remember correctly, and people forget the it’s biggest advantage is being PORTABLE, and it is built around it. The new one is free from almost all the limitations that the old one had. If you’re planning on using it in a house set up, then it is way too expensive, you could get better gear for less the price (if you have a daw) But considering the fact that this is a STAND ALONE device with everything you need in it, I personally this that it is worth the price. @flyingfrogofdeath9616 2 жыл бұрын
@@talmeirav3862 I'm sure it is mate but $2000 is insane for a single portable synth, no matter how powerful/useful it is. Don't want to turn this into a privilege/class thing but we, and many other people, clearly have a very different perception of money. I am a big synth enthusiast and have been for a couple of years now, despite not being poor now, I certainly was growing up and I understand the value of money. (Even now, I have a fairly decent job but I am far from loaded to most people, don't even think I earn the average wage but compared to my childhood it's amazing, I've only had this job for a year, I have lived in first world "poverty" 99% of my life. I understand people have it much worse than me and despite the struggles I have faced, everyday I am astounded at how lucky I am to be poor in a first world nation as opposed to a third world or developing nation) To me a new Range Rover may have all the bells and whistles and be a great all-weather vehicle but I don't think I'd ever be able to get past how much money it truly costs, having survived my entire childhood from birth to 18 years with a total household income less than a new range rover. I guess it's more of a perception/background thing but I couldn't justify the price myself. To this day, I tear broken electronics apart for components, draw up schematics and source other components I don't have and build my own synths' as well as repairing old, broken ones. I would love to have one one day but I can't pretend that I truly think it is "Worth it" if that makes sense. Heck when I got my first decent paycheck I celebrated by taking my family out for a meal, cost £110 and I felt like a king. The only thing that made it worth it was having a good time with my family. This price is just crazy to me personally but again, guess it just depends on your personal understanding and relationship with the concept of money. You see $2000 price tag for a synth for freedom and lack of limitations on the old iteration and being able to make music on the go; I see over a year's worth of food, bulk rice, fresh market fruit and veg as and when, decent protein; mostly tinned tuna, chicken breasts for the occasional treat and fresh fish if it was on offer, bulk porridge oats, milk as and when needed bulk instant black coffee, years worth of multi-vitamins for ~£15 on Amazon to cover the days I may not get all my nutrients in. Lived like that for two years. Not even convinced it cost me that much for food for the year.

@@tempo.rarity how do you determine the value? Feature-wise I’m struggling to find anything even remotely close to Op1, and I’m talking mostly about workflow(ui)+portability. TE has gradually become more and more out of touch and greedy and I'm not gonna buy any more of their crap anymore. This new one should have been what came out when they hiked the original price to 1300. they are going to drop this one, update it a couple times then forget about it like the original. if this was launching with some big new update for the original as well and actually had something to justify the price maybe I'd consider it. I have an original OP1 for more than 10 years now and I can safely say that I will never part ways with it. This new version is the stuff that I have been begging for all this time (especially midi implementation)... But at roughly 2000 dollars it’s insanity (or just regular Roland marketing). The OP1 sounded amazing at the time and the limitations were ok because of the processor. But in 2022 expectations have changed and sonic possibilities are becoming limitless with new portable technology. Anyway… For me its not worth upgrading from an original OP1 and I’m sad that they just improved the original instead of creating a real and exciting OP2… I wish them the best regardless!

Totally with you on this. I foolishly sold my OP-1 (although it did really annoy me for lots of reasons). I am basically their target market for this. Entice me back to the family with updates to everything I didn't like before. But that price. There's just no justification for that price. Weird decision by them if you ask me

@@makerKID5 sure, the screen was tiny and it was really hard to see when recording to the tape. Also editing the tape was overly fussy. Lack of quantized drumming (you can create a pattern to play but I prefer finger drumming). It seemed to have a terrible noise floor and I had a squeal/hum from it. The lack of undo was a nightmare. Paste something over something by mistake and you had to redo whole sections. These are the main issues for me

@@makerKID5 I always found the first one expensive, to begin with. But I was thinking, ok but it's well designed! But, IMO this thing should just be the OP-2 and be slightly higher priced than the first one, if at all. It's not even like they designed a completely new piece of gear from scratch. And material costs are not making that kind of difference. If I buy a new PC every 5-10 years, it's not like even close to twice as expensive. How about the next OP-something - is it ok if it costs 3000 bucks?
