I don't mind the aluminum - OP-Z's and the PO's reliability and durability issues prove the need for sturdier materials in these rather premium devices. However, seems like they're putting too much focus on the wrong things, and care too little about the important ones.

I recall Numark tried to do the same thing some years ago. Instead of releasing a new firmware to the Numark NV (with things they actually already said would come in future updates) they released the "all new" Numark NV2. New firmware and different color on the jog wheels. Really bad move... Luckily for them, they have a million other products so the customers feeling cheated weren't in majority.

"Boy, people really hated our price for the mixer we just launched. We should show them how out of touch we really are by launching a highly demanded item way out of reach of most of our consumer base during a time where the majority of the world is struggling financially". Seriously TE, wtf? Even as someone who can afford one of these, being able to justify that purchase right now when things in the world are SO uncertain is entirely different. I like the improvements, but not enough to pay an additional thousand dollars for them when it probably could have been a firmware update. I wouldn't be surprised if they discontinue the OG OP-1 in a few months, so this is the only option you have if you want an OP-1.

this whole product feels like a huge slap in the face to OP-1 owners. more than half of the new features here could be part of a software update for the original. I've owned mine for almost 8 years now and I think it only ever got 1 or 2 major updates. it's not the 80s TE you can continue to support your existing products with new features. I can easily afford this new one, no way in hell I'll ever buy it because TE will drop one or two updates then just ignore it and then jack the price up when it gets scarce. you guys really need to think about reprioritizing your business model, because both with this and the new mixer I've seen nothing but distaste from the majority of customers who actually own and use your products. least you could do is open source the OP-1 software so WE can improve it if you guys don't want to bother anymore. seriously, what a shame.

To release a $2500 incl tax synth in 2022 with an economy that is soon to collapse is truly egregious and excludes many people from being able to explore sound with your equipment. I have long thought about how this company simply DOES NOT care about inclusion and has co-opted a nostalgia driven interface reminiscent of a game boy only to price young people out. I think it’s time to let them die on their sword, there are many other amazing companies in this space who make great products and offer them for a price that’s reasonable and competitive, not a down payment on an economy car.

@christopher_ecclestone2 жыл бұрын
@@MattGreerMusic They're also the company who made the OP-Z. A great instrument on paper, but a joke in reality. I bought one, and in less than 12 months it started to bend and the dials started falling out. I also bought the Oplab module. At first I thought I was doing something wrong because it would work sometimes, then it wouldn't. Then other people started commenting about how the problem is that it doesn't actually fit the device, so I had to use bits of card to wedge it in place. Great design. Then the double triggering started which took any enjoyment out of playing it. In less than 18 months my £6-700 worth of synth and module were unsellable, worthless. And they had no customer service worth the name, and they never addressed those issues. That's just unacceptable. I have an MC202 from 1982 that still works. Their op-z was done within 18 months. I wanted to get behind this company, their products appealed to me, but after using them, I'd never buy anything from them again, and I advise anyone I know not to buy from them. They don't care about their customers at all. It's a shame, but I agree with the original comment, I'd be glad to see them die on their sword.

Still waiting for my original defective OP-1 to get repaired at one of their partner service shops. It’s been there for 2 months now. If you’re charging premium prices, you should at least make sure you’re making premium hardware. Or maybe allow exchange for the defective ones? Mine came with a dead pixel out of the box, a battery that doesn’t hold a charge or simply refuses to charge unless the device gets factory reset. And the nail in the coffin was firmware update R.00242. Since this update, it refuses to connect to any other device. So no more updates or using any usb features. Contacted customer service and they don’t care. They just gave a link to a service repair center.

Sadly this will remain a toy for wealthy middle aged hipsters, and will go down in history as one of the biggest scams on a customer base from an actual musical instrument company. Woulda been cool if y'all even tried to recognize that there is an entire musical community of cool ass people who would love a chance to use your products (people who would likely save for months just to buy it at half this joke of a price) - and you are literally giving us all the middle finger. Teenage engineering, even if I'm not able to buy something like OP-Z i think that asking 2000$ is too much for device that won't suit the professional artists. Pros need ports to make a device integrate into their setup, they need velocity keys and "pros" might be able to pay the price of op-1 field, but they don't see reason to. Andrew Huang with Jeremy Blake helped you sell OP-1 and popularise your brand by making wonderful music, so what you do? Raise the price. So far the only videos of your new synth were about the price and not good tunes someone can make with it.

Wow it looks like you want new customers. You have effectively priced out all of your PO introduction customers. We were with you on the OP-1 increase due to production costs. But what is the excuse now? It hurts to not be with you on this journey anymore.

They want the Hollywood rich kid market, it makes them a ton of money, think Gucci business model.

@@The_Invisible_Man That actually makes sense - I really can't understand the price of this - it's like they just chose a price and thought 'why not'.

Someone needs to tell TE engineers that isn’t Blue on the encoder knob. Someone is getting in trouble. Eeeek Edit: Also, What kind of an on/off button is that?!

I ended up selling my old OP-1 because all the buttons kept falling off. Does this unit address that being a "field" model?
@P-S-T2 жыл бұрын
Hi! "Synth: show user samples on shift+T1" confirmed today that it makes OP-1 Field crash everytime in firmware 1.1.2 (latest) when you scroll down to snapshot. After a restart, a preset sample is loaded in the synth which I haven´t loaded.
