This is the story of GreenGuard Grazing Muzzles, told by the horse owners who use and trust them.
From early spring through late fall, feeding on nutrient-rich grass can cause problems for equines and their owners. From weight gain and obesity to colic and laminitis, being able to restrict how much forage your horses get can be essential to their health. Keeping your animals in their stalls or on dry lots may be expedient, but it's by no means the best solution for their overall well-being.
When horses, ponies, and donkeys use a high-quality grazing muzzle, it frees them to get the natural exercise, forage, and social time that they need for their best health. Equine vet Dr. Frank K. Reilly, DVM, speaks to the practical benefits of the grazing muzzle.
Horse owners Sarah Borns, Lindsey Dougherty, Kathy Curtis, Traci Melvin, and Betty Roth have been using the GreenGuard muzzle for anywhere from 1 to 10 years. They talk honestly about their experiences with the muzzle and the effects it has had on their horses lives.
GreenGuard North America's president, April Chester, discusses how discovering the GreenGuard muzzle changed her horse's life and her own.
The GreenGuard grazing muzzle has been used and trusted in Europe for 20 years, and GreenGuard Equine LLC is proud to be the official distributor for these European-manufactured grazing muzzles in North America.

Absolutely the best grazing muzzle!! I have tried many others. One thing I discovered after going into my second season is to use zip ties rather than the leather straps. The leather straps decay, break and seem to fall off quite easy. The zip ties even release if they do get hung up on some thing, which my horse did and it did break away for his safety. Make sure you’re careful as to the strength you use. Also sometimes I use duct tape to close some of the holes because he is a ravenous eater😁. They are extremely durable and do not wear out like other grazing muzzles. Love it love it love it it has saved my horses life!!!! Thank you so much💕🇺🇸

Four years ago I purchased my (now 25 year old) mare who was 200 lbs overweight. I was able to get some of the weight off...and then she foundered. Before she foundered I had refused to keep her inside for weight loss and had refused to use any of the muzzles I had, at that time, found. They were all so very barbaric looking. They always reminded me of something Hannibal Lector would be wearing!! My farrier had been warning me that if I didn't get all the weight off she would most likely founder...and while I was TRYING to get the weight off, her lush pasture was ZERO help...and she foundered. I thought we were done. I thought she would never be out with her boys again. I spent 5 hours a day at the barn, every day, icing her legs, weighing and soaking her hay, and PRAYING. It was a grueling several months. During that time I found GreenGuard Grazing Muzzles online and IMMEDIATELY liked the look of it and purchased one. Six months after she foundered, because of this muzzle, I was able to start putting Lissie out to pasture for part of the day. I actually started her out with taping several of the holes in the muzzle to really limit her intake of grass (unfortunately my girl is a binge eater!!). As time went on I was able to uncover holes and keep her out longer. I am happy to say that today my beautiful girl is her ideal weight, is sound (even with a 10 degree rotation) and out in pasture with her boys 24/7 (except for breakfast and dinner!) and she is LOVING life! She happily drops her head into her muzzled halter and has never tried to get it off of her head. GreenGuard Grazing Muzzles is TRULY instrumental in maintaining my mare's weight and in her every day happiness!!! Thank you GreenGuard!!!!

Just got a Greenguard. My boy has to lose some weight. It's not going well at all. Every tine I put it on him to get him used to it it's pitiful. He totally doesn't understand. I put some grass up it to show him how it works but he still doesn't understand. I put him in the field to figure it out on his own. When I came back 2 hrs later he was walking from spot to spot and never grazed. I can't do this anymore.

@@kenh9681 hi there. I had forgotten about this post. It all turned out good but it didn't start that way. 2 weeks after this post my vet came to exam my boy again. He gained an additional 60 lbs and I knew this was now very serious. His digital pulses were elevated and the vet said he was on the verge of laminitis. I was sick with worry (like we horse folk get). The vet put him on a crash diet and he was taken off ALL grass completely for 2 months. I felt so sorry for him. He had a "what did I do?" expression on his face. *fast forward to present day* He lost over a hundred pounds, his digital pulses are normal and he's back out in the field for 12 hours a day. AND (here's the kicker) he is grazing WITH the Greengaurd muzzle. He's not allowed in the field without it. Maybe he's so hungry he doesn't mind it, lol. I checked the inside of the muzzle for teeth marks to see if it's balanced on his face correctly and I don't see any teeth marks. I never knew anything about muzzles before because I never had to use one plus, I'll admit my stupidity, I thought they were cruel. But they're not cruel......letting a horse get laminitis would be cruel. But anyway, that's how he's doing now (thank you, Jesus). Thank you for asking about him!
