Introducing the Rolex OP39

All too often I read comments advising to skip the journey, just buy a Rolex. That is bad advice I say, we must enjoy the journey to fully understand and appreciate what we like.
Do all roads lead to Rolex? Maybe (yeah they do), but really maybe not. We all have to take our own path.

Enjoyed your thoughts on the “journey”. Just bought an Explorer I yesterday for all of the same reasons. I needed to experience every watch prior to it to appreciate it. Cheers.

Good for you, Rob! We all struggle with the self-identity of who and where we are in our watch journey. I'm glad that you have the opportunity to experience the Rolex and hope it gives you all the enjoyment you hope it will. If not, at least you can say you gave it a serious try and then you'll know. Despite unsolicited exhortations from the watch forums, there are no right answers for watch enthusiasts. We have to follow our own personal path and figure out what works best for us.

Congrats, great watch! I have taken a similar journey with a recent Datejust( partially financed). I still enjoy wearing my G-SHOCK s and Seikos.

Congratulations! I was gifted with my father's Datejust upon graduating which I wore every day even when I was waiting tables to make ends meet. I appreciated it more as gift and as a sentimental piece and as I got older I bought a G-Shock to wear every day to preserve it. I have in the recent years been bitten by a similar bug have progressed from Casios to Orients and Seikos. There's no shame in owning something you can appreciate and can subsequently pass along to the next generation.
