Probably some last minute character design choices. Wouldn't be the first time a character acted or looked one way then did a 180 out of nowhere. Especially with appearances. Big mom and especially Kaido looked NOTHING like they currently do when first introduced as siloettes. That or maybe he just had a personality change after 2 years

@@flashkirby101 Yeah i think i read that Oda invented the Supernova really just before starting Sabaody (a last minute add) and he first intended to make most of them die to show the NW is no joke He changed his ideas apparently ^^ On the same topic, Bogard, Garp's right-hand man in the beggining of One Piece (when Koby and Hermep train, post Water 7...) completely disappeared from the story after the TS, despite being the right-hand of the legendary marine

Oda created the other 9 supernovas the same week in which I drew the chapter from which this episode was taken because, I don't remember whether for Oda himself or for the editor, the narrative arc of Sabaody seems empty of interesting characters. Furthermore, Oda himself later he will say that he didn't think he would use these characters, at least not all of them, and in fact we can see some of them have strange destinies, like Big Cap absorbed by something in the sky, which was never seen again. Only later did he give them some characterizations, such as Bonney, although the character would change several times over time, or Law and Kidd.
