Introduction to Amazon Kinesis

Amazon Kinesis is a fully managed service for real-time processing of streaming data at any scale. Amazon Kinesis can collect and process hundreds of terabytes of data per hour from hundreds of thousands of sources, allowing you to easily write applications that process information in real-time, from sources such as web site click-streams, marketing and financial information, manufacturing instrumentation and social media, and operational logs and metering data. Thank you Amazon for understanding the needs of developers and engineer. Kinesis is what we need - an inexpensive piping solution for livestreaming and processing data. No more expensive and development-intensive Google App Engine, Big Query, and Cloud Storage. Kinesis just made Amazon win the Big Data War!!! All Hail Amazon for boosting the developer-experience. :)

Can Kenesis be used for streaming equipment operational data or from say a CSV file up or IOT device data into AWS via say Cellular and the data is analyzed and put into S3?

I'm very new to AWS World and I have a specific requirement , i want to transfer data from local desktop (webService) to s3 / sql rds with minimum cost .The data transferring will be on daily basis. Can any body please help me out.The source data can be xml/jason for client i can write the code to stream into either json or csv. I looked around Kinesis alot and got confused , with Kinsis stream and kinsis firehose . Please suggest me the specific solution with minimal cost. if possible i don't want to use ec2 instance.

why not point your webservice from local to S3, and use the sql RDS, RDS and S3 has lot of options to minimise cost, To give you an idea, for S3, they have class types from expensive to cheap Standard,Standard IA,Reduced redundancy and Glacier .
