F.'em is one of the most powerful FM synthesizers ever made, taking advantage of modern CPU resources to process its freely configurable 11 operator matrix.
Join us on our live stream where the team will discuss the amazing F.'em functions as well as answering your questions and queries.

What a great synth. Can't believe I didn't come across this earlier.

Thank you guys for putting this together. Two words tho - Dry Run! Not having a mouse pointer was an issue but I'm sure the tutorials will be great. If you can, PLEASE do whatever is possible to record and post those in 4K with high audio quality. That would be very much appreciated so we can see all the details of the UI and hear the sounds in the best clarity. Keep in mind KZfaq's compression (audio CODEC) is awful and is absolutely merciless on FM synthesized sounds as well. I understand where Woody is coming from re: not really trying the instrument out before passing judgment - do that at your own peril (not a great approach to understand a new instrument). F.'Em LOOKS very promising, but not everybody likes dubstep/DnB stuff - I personally loathe it and can mostly "tune it out". HOWEVER, I *do* think that it's incumbent on *you* and *your team* to come up with patches that REALLY capture the power and promise of your instrument, and not to expect total noobs to unleash the power. I think F.'Em could be incredible but please don't pigeonhole yourselves to one polarizing genre. Where are the lush ambient sounds and super rich pads? Yes, there's a few in there, but they are very sparse. I've had no installation or usage issues with the trial, and in general the "quality" of the software is very good. Stuff in the UI all looks VERY good, and I'm excited to hear some additional sound designers "take" on this thing with the additional operators and layering capabilities. Will you support native Apple silicon (yes, M1) with a universal binary soon? I can only imagine how performance could possibly improve (or get way more complicated) once this happens. I have a LOT to learn about this instrument and have some fun sessions planned. It looks to be an amazingly powerful FM-based engine, and I'm sure I'll have fun experimenting.

Not sure talking to myself is healthy LOL, but in case anyone cares to read any of this, F.'Em is TOTALLY worth spending some time with. The last 4 hours went somewhere - and it was spent auditioning and playing with every one of the presets. There is a lot of stuff in these libraries I will never use, but don't get too hung up on the sounds if you don't "click" with them. There are many GORGEOUS sounds and lots of very interesting ones too. I REALLY spent some time with a few sounds that I love, and if you're looking for something OTHER than DnB/dubstep you WILL have to dig for examples of what this thing is capable of. I think I'm going to buy it eventually, but not until after the tutorial videos come out so I can follow along and try out some of the techniques. This is NOT FM8 ripped off. This is NOT a DX7. This is closer to Algoritm, but with an arguably better interface and a couple more operators. Just scratching the surface here and getting lost in the amazing warm and complex tones. The effects are better than I'd first given them credit for. The reverbs are wide and can get pretty lush. I think it was just the basic patches I'd auditioned that turned me off at first. Out of all the "stock" content, I've found about 81 out of the over 500 patches that "speak to me" in some way - so more than 8 out of 10 patches were throw-aways for me. BUT those 81 - they are either interesting jumping-off points for tweaking, or completely new and interesting sounds that I'd never have expected from an "FM" synth. I think there is "gold in these hills"...how difficult it will be to "mine" is another story. I'm staying tuned, Tracktion. I see promise.

I guess cause the sound can be aggressive as piments,vital,phase plant etc are they just use d&b as an example and horrible dubstep. Think its more a marketing thing (however wrong it is). They can use someone to actually play it. After we want hear what it really does. That said with fm things can sound very lush,clean etc... I use f'em for ebm and it fits perfectly.

This is the best possible synth to us the CLAP plug-in format with all the modulation. After using the UHe CLAP synths I thought of F'em.

So happy to see this finally shipping! It's an _extremely_ thorough &versatile implementation, and most importantly it sounds great. I appreciated Wolfram and Taiho letting me see it last year & truly bummed I couldn't participate in voicing pre-release. Excited to make up for lost time :) If you want to get into FM -- F'em ! Also, just a bit of graphic design critique: I love the colorful, flat controls on the dark background. It seems to say, "This is a modern software synth and doesn't need to look like hardware." The ADSR sliders and the piano keyboard however look skeuomorphic and don't match.

I'ma try out the demo and see if it's something I'd use. Before that, though, I would say that making each operator more malleable would be the logical next step in improving the synth. One of FM8's shortfalls was only having 10-15 waveforms, many of which were sorta similar. Similarly, Sytrus can only resample a single frame of sound into an operator and change only certain transforms of the waveform. The goal would be to make operators more like wavetables. That way you can leverage MPE, Flow LFO, and other routing possibilities. Also, .scl and .tun is key for me... but that's me.

I'd love for the browser to work more like Alchemy where you can have a loop playing and just up-down arrows (or single-click) to listen to each present in turn. What I'm experiencing now is having to double-click or arrow+return key. It makes a big difference when going through lots of presets to find the right sound.

I quite like the presets quite alot .F:em will be a good sound design tool into the future .It did freeze once in CUBASE Pro 11.I had to restart the PC in order the resolve the issue .Could stability be a consideration for an upcomming patch ?

Wolfram, you mentioned (and show) v1.0.5, yet my downloader/updater has me at 1.0.4 (MacOS) with no updated available. Do you know when it will be "published" so I can update, and will there be release notes showing changes? Thanks!
@davidrowland3342
@davidrowland3342 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, v1.0.5 is currently in public beta. These updates don't show up in the Download Manager (only full releases do) but you can manually install them from the "Downloads" page on tracktion.com under the "BETA" link for the "F.'em Synth" product. The release notes are shown during the running of the installer. For 1.0.5 they are: * Fixed Sample 2 frequency modulation * Fixed wrong Envelope Attack behaviour When the beta phase has finished we'll make this a full release the Download Manager and plugin will notify you there is an update available.

Synth needs sound improvement. It's too thin compared to DX7. It needs saturator and better filters. UI is good

FM is not very loved synthesis type and plugin is quite expensive to justify it for occasional use. I think it will sell better at lower price.

It is the worse Synth Demo I have ever tried!! Every 2nd preset I try the white noise starts & it is extremely annoying! I uninstalled it within 10 minutes on my Mac Studio! I understand it is in demo mode but for gods sake can't I use your demo in peace so that I can listen to all the presets without getting annoyed with the constant white noise rubbish?
@jameswoodburn127
@jameswoodburn127 5 ай бұрын
Sounds like you have not actually triggered the demo - the white noise happens as a copy protection and only happens if the user doesn't have an active demo period or a license

I downloaded it yesterday & I clicked on demo mode & then the white noise occurred when I tried out the presets so I have no idea what else to do. @@jameswoodburn127
