I do not understand, for what is it good for. Unity is made for viewing 3D scenes in realtime. It is used in games, VR and other things. If I understand it correctly, Octane rendering in Unity is not for realtime use, for example in games, isn’t it? So, when making scenes in Unity I want to see exactly how they look in the finished game and not how they could look rendered in Octane. Perhaps anyone can explain me the use case for Octane in Unity.

you can use Octane in unity for rendering high quality cut scenes of your game for example. As Unity is also being used by film makers more and more (especially now with Cinemachine & Timeline stuff) they can now directly render out high quality movies directly in Unity. You can also bake high quality Octane materials/textures/lighting in Unity and use it in your games. Realtime will come with Unity 4 and Brigade...

I would bake the rendering to the texture of the objects. ;-)

Hi. Is the “standalone” free with unity? Or just the plugin? You make it sound like I can only achieve these smoke effects in the octane standalone, but no mention of if this is included

When I try to load octane i get this error: OctaneUnity was not correctly installed (Error locating libfbxsdk.dll).

Use standard "movable proxy" in the octane object properties. Or did I mistunderstand you?

its ok people already crack the pro version But anyway i'm switching to unreal as i can't stand the englighten baking times and the manual light probe setup anymore

Both engines has pros and cons. As a programmer I cannot stand the awful compile times of UE4 C++. It is pain in the ass and plus UE4 has almost no documentation for C++ API. By the way what do you mean 'manual light probe setup'?

As in u need to manually place each individual light probe from a light probe group in advantageous locations whereas for Unreal u just place a lightmass importance volume and specify the area with a box. i'm not so much a programmer more level designer just glad i don't have to deal with compiling for my artists needs i find unreal satisfies me and gets the job done faster than unity
