Very instructive video. I do have a couple of questions if I may be so bold. 1. How sturdy are these pack rafts (if they're made by the same company who makes those air mattresses you get at Wal Mart I'll probably drown before I even get under way) 2. How much gear (lbs) can you realistically expect to carry down a challenging river? 3. What happens if a paddler capsizes the craft .. are you screwed or generally speaking how is this compensatwd for? 4. for camping and exploring .. Is this a better way to go than say using a canoe or kayak? Thanks for your detailed reply.

they are very durable. I have abused mine for years and have not had to make any repairs. the aftermath of tipping isn't much different than tipping in a canoe but with a little more risk of losing your stuff so I am more carful to scout and portage log jams etc... than I am in other boats. they are slower than canoes and kayaks and less manuverable yet more stable. the big advantage is being able to trek with it. You can foot shuttle yourself and access remote areas with it. when I am just going out to paddle, I prefer a kayak but for these unique trips, there is nothing like a packraft. the one in the video is a Yukon from Alpacka rafts. hope that helps.

I wouldn't deflate my pack-raft over sharp stones. They are more likely than not to rip the craft. You can't afford to make such a basic mistake in the wilderness.

If you're looking at this video as an introduction into packrafting, PLEASE don't view this as a comprehensive guide. The clown isn't even wearing a helmet and there are no perimeter lines on the stern of the raft. Have a watch of the woodriver packrafting video to get an understanding of how important stern lines are. This is so basic. Go find a pro and do a course if you want to learn safely.

Don't be such an Elf n Safety wally.. life is full of risks. grade 1 and 2 I wouldn't wear a helmet either.... for fly fishing these look brilliant - the spray deck to lay your line on... perfect for calm waters such as high altitude lakes, where hauling a 15ft kayak is bloody hard work, even on a C-tug. This would fit on my motorcycle and make shore based casting a thing of the past, provided it wasn't too blowy. A drogue deployed would control the drift to sensible rate and a small anchor would enable static fishing. Bloody ideal.

@@simoneverett6081 I think you misunderstood my comment. Packrafting is amazing. This video, as a how to guide, is not. I'm suggesting that if you want to learn about packrafting, seek out a professional as you will receive sound advice and gain an understanding of how you should make informed decisions on the river. Dont follow the advice of some clown who, by the look of the creases in his packraft, has only used it once or twice.

@@TheHuwMiles actual if you go to Alpacka website the folks who designed these don't wear helmets either. They also have different types of rafts for different waters this looks a lot like the the medium or large classic raft. Which isn't designed for White water rafting. It will work in a pinch from everything thing I have read. I think both are packrafts will work. Ive seen tons of videos people using Alpacka and swear by them. There is also one benefit to alpacka that Kokopelli doesn't have. That is you can actually get rafts where you can store your gear inside the raft it self. It supposed to add more stability to the raft while allowing you to take more gear and keep your gear safe. I plan on going with Alpacka myself.

@@michaelrunk8593 alpackas are awesome, all of my fleet are alpackas. The kokopelis are good too and also have tizips so you can store gear inside.
