Have you ever wondered how WAKO Kickboxing bouts are scored?
WAKO uses an Open and Cumulative scoring system that is very different than the '10-9 Must System' that most U.S. athletes are accustomed to competing under. Some athletes don't care for this system when they first learn about it, but after they see it in action and experience it in competition, they end up enjoying it. Cumulative & Open Scoring is very fan friendly and it makes for some exciting bouts.
In this video, WAKO Team USA Kickboxing Head Coach, Chris Cichon discusses what it is scored and what is not under WAKO rules. He also shows a sample WAKO bout with graphics that show in real-time what Judges 1, 2, and 3 are giving awarding points for during the bout.
Please use this video as a training tool to prepare mentally and physically for what it takes to be successful at WAKO events.
