Dependency on human labor in all rice production processes results in lost economic earnings from farmers in many Asian countries.
To address this, IRRI works with its partners to develop and promote technologies through mechanization for those who cannot afford to purchase and own equipment to improve rice management practices, which allow for increased productivity and a stronger and more resilient rice sector.
Mechanized systems improve input-use efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and environmental pollution, ensure health and safety of farmers, and bring savings in input and labor costs.
