I saw the "steam" as the glue was dripped in. I was going to post to ask if this was an exothermic reaction, and if so, does it produce heat. The reaction looks similar to a compound we use and it gets quite hot when it kicks.

Cyanoacrylate ('super glue' aka 'crazy glue') combines with sodium bicarbonate ('bicarb', baking soda) to emit toxic fumes. Use this method only in well ventilated areas, preferably outdoors. Handy, though-I fixed my washing machine switch this way, and it lasted years. Modellers use it to repair toy buildings and vehicles before shaping and painting, as can be seen elsewhere on KZfaq.

That is a U.K. a plug for a double insulated device, the earth (ground) pin was plastic to start with as the device doesn’t require an earth connection by design. The plastic pin is there only to open the shutters we have on mains outlets. In other international markets that sort of device may be fitted with a two pin plug. I still don’t think it’s a great idea in this example because if the home made pin snaps off it renders the socket unsafe and unusable.

@shepshape2585

The problem with the plug at the end is that the post he replaced was the ground plug, so while the glue plug will help hold it into the outlet, it won't ground the circuit and therefore is completely unsafe. That and the fact that he probably used $3 worth of glue and an hour of his time when he could have just bought a new plug for $2.
@bellend702
@bellend702 Жыл бұрын
The top pin or earth was made of plastic to start with so no earth circuit would have been made anyway. The reason it helps is the earth pin is longer than the live and neutral and when pushed into the socket it opens the blocking mechanism to allow access to the L and N holes. UK plugs, eh?

nail polish remover keep dabbing it around the base of the cap, or hold a cotton pad soaked in nail polish remover around the cap It should penetrate the threads as it evaporates and break down the dried super glue. It eats through the stuff. It has no effect on still liquid glue though, interestingly (or such is my understanding)

@@58debjean For me,I used plain superglue.Worked great.Now,some expect it to become 'bullet proof'. It doesnt.It simply dries almost instantly.AND,the bakingsoda acts like a brick support.You cant abuse the item fixed anymore than you would if the item was new.But,it does work and works well.Also,it doesnt hurt to have a bit of logic and understanding of the ability of the repair.The baking soda doesnt get between the parts being joined.It does speed drying time.And on the outside edge of the repair,if you used enough glue to squeeze out of the edges a bit,the baking soda does mix in and again,acts like a supporting hard substance.
