This episode was Robert Kirkman saying "Hey, you ever notice how in those super hero movies that when the protagonist and antagonist fight and entire cities get leveled you never see very many people die? Well, let's fix that lol."

That's what I love about this show. Yes, it's really gory and graphic, but many times the genre skips over collateral damage and this one...embraces it.

@@AndresGomez-ct7qb I would say that's true of the early issues. As the comic goes on the brutality and gore is very similar to what we see in the show. So there will be a difference in Season 1, but some of the later fights I expect to match pretty closely.

That smile Omni-Man during the flashback was him saying, "Fuck it, I can wait 80 years for Mark to die, be a distant grandpa, then we start the invasion." Mark showing his Viltrum heritage completely changed his plan. As much as he does care about Mark and Debbie, given his gray hair he's been a loyal Viltrumite soldier for longer than humans have been civilized. You can't just turn your back on your home for people you've known for a relative day.

Seriously, that line: "I guess, I wasn't the only one being lied to.", just think about that. @@NostalgicMem0ries That's a really cynical way of seeing the world, and also wrong in my opinion. And that's also the problem with today's depressed generations. For every bad thing some people do, I can find a good selfless thing other people do. Human are equally good and evil but the issue is, as a survival mechanism our brains are wired to pay more attention to the bad stuffs. That's why people can remember every single detail of something bad that happened to them years ago, but need to think hard to recall the good stuffs. And also why in this over mediatized society, a lot of people seriously believe the world is more dangerous today when statistically we live in the safest era in human history. What a lot of people forgot, is that Superheroes were made first to be inspiring, these stories are not supposed to reflect what we are, but what we could be. And we've been doing this since the dawn of time. From The Epic of Gilgamesh, King Arthur to Batman. And most great deeds in history were made by people who grew up inspired by these stories. The point of heroes like Superman and Captain America is not all the power they have, it's how they choose to use them, their identity lies in their values and morality. That's why people who call them boring miss the entire point of these stories. Striving to be better is a human thing, that's what made us come around a table to discuss human rights, and also made us build rockets to walk on the moon.

You know? All that speech about how pointless it is to care about humans? That sounded more like Nolan was trying convince himself. He is not the viltrumite he used to be. The old Nolan would have just play the hero until the opportune moment came and conquer the planet without hesitation. Instead, now he would rather have the Earth join the Viltrum Empire willingly, and the more he kills, the more he shakes. And Mark's response could be turned around and make it so, even after losing everyone he grown to care, he'd still got his son. Real tsundere material.

Omni man's psychology is fascinating when you think about cause this guy's lived for hundreds if not thousands of years (probably thousands given Nolan actually looks old) and he's lived on earth for just 20. He was completely loyal to vilitrum with there master race rulers of the universe ideology but just 20 years on earth was enough to break that psychological armor and make him care enough (at least for his son) to abandon his mission and as far as we know (if you haven't read the comics and thus know the story already) go awol.

When Omni Man learned that Mark had gotten his powers in the first episode, there was something off about him. Like he was disturbed when hearing the news. Come this episode, and you get it's cause he realises that vacation's over. Time to get back to work. With his son also a nearly immortal Viltrumite, there's no more waiting for his family to pass away from old age before starting the conquest of Earth.
@AStrangeWindmill
@AStrangeWindmill 2 жыл бұрын
Yep. His plan was "Ok, these short lived humans are kinda nice, I guess. Not like I'm on a schedule, I'll just wait until all the ones I really like die". And Mark being a viltrumite meant that no matter how long he waited, he'd always have Mark to deal with. Not only that, Mark now imposes a deadline due to how Viltrumite's work. If Nolan waits until Debbie, the costume guy, Cecil, and any other human he might give a shit about dies, Mark might actually be too strong for Nolan to handle. _Or_ Mark, not knowing the ramifications, might help the guardians develop some anti-viltrum defense. That's also why he was talking all that shit about Debbie. He _has_ to see humans that way to do this, so he's trying to shake him out of loving her like a human would. But he was planning for that to just not be an issue.
@Ether165
@Ether165 2 жыл бұрын
How does that work though? He could have conquered Earth straight away without help when he got there. He didn’t need help from his son to do it.
@giantWario
@giantWario 2 жыл бұрын
@@Ether165 Firstly, conquering Earth was only part of his mission, the other part was mating with a human to see if a human-viltrumite hybrid would inherit their powers. Secondly, he had no way to know how powerful humans were or how easy it would be to conquer them without, you know, infiltrating them first. Besides, infiltrating them also makes it more likely that they'll submit. They'd still rather conquer the Earth than have to destroy it after all but Viltrumites won't accept anyone going against them. As Omniman said, they either submit or die so in those circumstances, you want to find out the best way to make them submit rather then go with the nuclear option from the start, even if you're as ruthless as the Viltrumites are. Thirdly, I actually think that if Omniman had come to Earth as a conqueror from the start, the Guardians would have been able to beat him. Their biggest problem when they fought Omniman is that they thought he was being controlled and didn't go all out at first. With Red Rush supporting War Woman and the Immortal instead of dying first, they'd actually have a decent shot at beating him.

Well Mark and Nolan were dealing with the same thing. Keeping a secret as things slowly fall apart, struggling with the world as you know it becoming nothing but warped by responsibility meeting what you love. You can relate to Nolan, you can Sympathize and understand him. Up until she reveals she knew all along and still mistreated Mark Amber was too but now it's completely out the window. Nolan is a conditioned warrior from a ruthless world. Amber is a heartless, hypocritical, on and off relationship having bitch. Nolan beat the shit out of Mark and ran away crying because he didn't know what to do. Amber hurt Mark emo and tried fucking someone else and slid back into the scene when Mark was Pulp and putty with no tears to be seen.

On second viewing you realize that when Omni-Man says "did seeing that man lose his life disturb you... let's see how you handle this!" and sends him to Chicago, he's already decided he's going to slaughter thousands just to make the point, wasn't talking about punching him. I swear I can't get through Mark's "you, dad. I'd still have you" without tearing up. To him, even hearing "you'll live thousands of years", it was still pretty simple; yes, he'd live and love and lose but he'd still have his dad and that would be enough.

Also Mark is Gohan and his dad Nolan is Frieza/Thanos and the Viltrumite’s are essentially Kryptonians with the culture of the Saiyans, and like the Saiyans they significantly get stronger the angrier they are, they are now the most terrifying alien race in all of comic book history!!!
