Alrighty then, that was some brutal shit.. But what an end to an already excellent first season! They really managed to tie everything together through the episode, while also setting up A LOT of stuff for future seasons. We really can't wait to see what happens next, although it's probably going to be a little while before season two drops. Until then, thank you all so much for following along on this little (very bloody) journey!
Remember this is not a substitute for watching the actual show. If you haven't seen it, please do so (available on Amazon Prime) and then come back to the video afterwards.

To understand Omniman, you have to look at how old he looks, and remember what he said about Viltrumite life spans. He is very, very, very old. Likely older than human civilization. And he's been doing what Viltrumite do for all his life. He's been with Debbie for what's relatively a weekend in a lifetime of fifty plus years. That he changed so much is actually pretty crazy, especially considering how Debbie mentions he was completely full of himself on their first date. What he says in this episode isn't only to convince Mark, but also trying to convince himself to go through with it. As shown in the flashback he kind of decided to play house for 80 years until Mark and Debbie died, then he'd start prepping Earth for invasion. Mark developing powers meant that timetable was out the window and he had to do it now. That's why killing the Guardians was so sudden and sloppy. I'm not saying you should like him, but appreciate where he's coming from.

Remember episode one, when Mark first got his powers? Nolan's reaction was... "Are you sure? " Mark getting his powers was the signal Nolan was waiting for to begin the take over process. Technically, if Mark never got his powers, then Nolan wouldn't have done anything. Nolan actually believed that Humans weren't compatible because Mark should have had his powers when he was a child. Nolan was ready to just settle down and play Daddy. Mark developing powers was the test which proves Humans are compatible with Viltrumites and therefore... Earth now has value.

Great reaction and analyses. Also worth mention is the first episode when Nolan (Omniman) gets told that Mark has his power. Notice his disappointment, borderline sadness. I think Nolan didn't want Mark to get his powers. I think he wanted to wait until his wife and son died of old age before making his move. I also feel that Nolan deep beneath didn't want to conquer earth after his experiences with Debbie, but the Viltrumite indoctrination forced him to push those feelings away.

Think about it. That '500 year' line he gave Mark wasn't arbitrary. That's how long he was supposed to have to conquer Earth. He was spending a few decades just getting settled in. In a couple of centuries of being a hero, he easily could have made the argument that Earth should establish a single world government, and that he should rightly be president, and that would set him up to bring Earth into the Empire in a completely bloodless way. If Mark hadn't developed full force powers, that's probably how he would've done it. But no, Mark got fully rated powers, so the conquest had to be fast.

The look on Nolan's face when he finally stands up... the agony. The guilt, the shame, watching his son's blood fall off his hands in streams, while coming to terms with the fact that Mark, despite all of his egging on and taunting, never wavered not only in his principles, in his beliefs, and in his spirit, but also unmoving in his LOVE for the man who is doing this to him.... Even if he didn't break free of his Viltrumite beliefs right then and there, he knew he didn't have it in him to finish the job. He needed to be.... somewhere, ANYWHERE, else.

The funny thing about Nolan asking Mark 'Why did you make me do this' is that it IS a totally legitimate question, just not a legitimate one to pose to Mark. He's very much not conquering earth because HE wants to, he's doing it because he's been forced to become an agent of the Viltrum Empire, and the consequences for failing to 'do his duty' are disasterous. He's an abuse victim living in fear. And just like abuse victims living in fear of abusers who are no longer directly present in their lives, he cannot help but try to recreate that relationship in microcosm with his own son. He's asking DOWN the chain of abuse to find out why HE was abused, and the echo back that Mark gives him is that he didn't have to be. That he could have been loved and valued as a person the same way he'd been a father to Mark, but that somehow that bond had become a corruption. The part of him that was a loving father, giving Mark the best upbringing he could, wants to understand why he couldn't be Viltrum's beloved son. It's the kind of realization he never could have reached if he hadn't come to Earth and discovered what these kinds of relationships are SUPPOSED to be. When he's asking Mark about why he was made to do these horrible things, some part of him is really asking the Empire why he was forced to become this weapon of conquest, and recognizing the inherent futility of their imperialistic expansion efforts. He's realizing that the plans of the empire are meaningless because everything the empire is fighting to preserve is in the process of turning to dust and blowing away. He doesn't think the Empire has another 500 years... but his family? His family just might.

There's also something to be said for the fact that Nolan had so much love to give based on Debbie's guidance despite NEVER having that kind of parent to model his own fatherhood on. And Debra has suffered even MORE than Mark because while Mark lost his father she lost both the love of her life and the father of her child. This is one of the single best superhero shows in TV history. Also Mark is Gohan and his dad Nolan is Frieza/Thanos and the Viltrumite’s are essentially the Kryptonians if General Zod had won his coup and Krypton didn’t blow up and adopted the culture of the Saiyans, they are now the most terrifying alien race in all of comic book history!!!

One important thing to understand is that he spend his entire life under the influence of viltramite mentality. Thousands of years (I think) as a warrior for their cause. Then all of a sudden Debbie and mark. His whole reason for being on earth was to weaken them. Look back at mark getting his powers in the first episode. The shock of him finally getting his powers set the point where it wasn’t about he family and it was about the job. And the memory of mark as a child made him remember why he had a family. The short time he was on earth with Debbie and mark changed thousands of years of upbringing. The switch isn’t on a flip of a finger. He’s in the middle of a personal breakdown

I think what Nolan was doing wasn't simply just to teach Mark. I think he was trying to desensitize himself for caring for humans and wasn't just addressing Mark only, but himself. He's been a hero for 20 years and in that (comparatively short) amount of time, that steered away from his original mission.

"I guess we were both lied to". She compares a lifetime's worth of astronomical lies to a few months of a potentially lifesaving lie. Not only that, but in that statement, she compares Mark to his father, essentially implying that his lie was on the same scale as Nolan's. It's disgusting. ~Arbynflowiter Dude got almost beat up to death by his father for siding with the humans and yet she finds a way to make it about her

No part of what Amber said compared Mark to his father lol you’re reaching . No matter how much you hate Amber surely you musnt think she finds the person she wants to start dating again , comparable to a genocidal maniac ? Or rather , a omnicidal maniac , since he wants to exterminate all humans ? Plus she’s in danger regardless of Mark telling Her or not . The difference is, had he not told her the truth before she died from a villain who wanted revenge on Mark, she wouldn’t even have known what she died for.

@@profissionalgp608 Thank you! People are so angry at Amber for breaking up with Mark, they are being ridiculous about it. A lot of them are projecting their own issues onto her. I’ve read so many comments lambasting her. I’m glad you see what she really meant by that, trying to show Mark that she understands how he feels and is ready to put their issues behind them. I’m glad Amber came back. Mark needs as many friends as he can get to support him.

Nolan's anger with Mark was because Mark wasn't seeing what he was trying to show him - Therefore, Nolan had to physically subdue him, and he was hurting to have to do it, and this made him Angry (basically the fact that he really loves his son opposing his duty to Vultrim).

Also the whole idea that he was trying to convince himself as much as Mark and the fact that Mark wasn't bending to their ideology was Making him question it despite his whole identity for 100s of years being based on it.

@@joelsasmad Yep.... It did hurt him to beat up on Mark, and yet he felt obligated to do it (out of duty). He truly wanted to stop - so he was left with nothing better to do than blame Mark for it (this was some very deep writing). I'll bet he flew off searching for another option - and will come back conflicted - if not a changed man, with nobody believing him.

They are more like humans when considering , say an Ant. To the viltrumites we are basic forms of life like a cow or ant. We do not treat lesser creatures any better than Omni man treated us.
@DelusionalNYC
@DelusionalNYC 2 жыл бұрын
This is SO true. I hope more people take this into account when judging Omni Man: Humans and Viltrumites may be similar in appearance but when Nolan looks at humans, he's not looking at an equal -- he sees a much, much, lower form of life. He treats us the same way we treat insects because that's how he sees us.

@@ryanforbes8192 That is the thing. He is doing exactly what almost every one of us has done here. You have killed life yes? Are you a piece of shit? Omni man is not morally good to us, but it is not correct to call him evil. Imagine if you came home and your child was telling you he was going to go live with a nest of cockroaches and did not want to be part of your family anymore. I can easily imagine telling them they were wrong to leave and they should not live with roaches, hell I can even see spraying his "friends" with some raid to try and change his mind. Omni man is not a good guy, but he is not willfully evil. That is important nuance. He was not saying he feels like his wife is a pet to deman her, he was just really bluntly honest with his son and was raised to not value any lesser life other than viltrumites. We have tons of humans like that which do not get labeled evil. it is bad, just something other than evil.

it sounds really fakked up on face value but the whole "pet" analogy kinda makes sense from his perspective. Tell me honestly that you dont know people who have dogs or cats they love just as much or even more than their own actual family. The difference is that with a pet you go in with the knowledge that you will out live them. Based of what Nolan says Veltrumites live for thousands of years so in a low estimate thats atleast 2000 years. Even if being generous and expecting Debbie to live to 100 thats in a best case scenario 5% of his life span... less than *half* of what a dog would be to a human. Seeing her as a pet, no matter how insulting it may sound, is not really unreasonable from his perspective. It doesnt mean he doesnt love her, doesnt mean he sees her as inferior, just that he knew goiing in that from his point it was temporary. Especially with him being more or less indestructible there is no reasonable scenario where he wouldnt live to see her die. Dont get me wrong, Im not defending Nolan or his actions... he *is* no doubt the villain and his whole mindset is abhorrent... but the pet thing really isnt if you set emotions aside and look at it from an objective standpoint

You both seem like really good and kind people. Which is very much commendable! But yeah, after what Omniman's done, there is no such thing as redeeming qualities or redemption. If he saved the entire galaxy, even that wouldn't "make up for" what he has done. Because it's impossible. The notion, that after doing unspeakable horrors - which there is an unimaginable number of, happening all the time, all across the planet - one can just somehow do X amount of good and tip an imaginary scale, is a horrendous concept. And an insanely dangerous one.

Nolan: It's time for Earth to join the Viltrum Empire. Also Nolan: I will burn this planet down before I spend another minute living with these animals. Seems to me the Viltrum Empire values strength and durability above all other qualities. What on Earth could possibly measure up to those expectations? Have I missed something fundamental here? Well, it could be worse. At least Nolan doesn't have laservision.

Nolan left because his last ditch effort to convince Mark and most importantly himself that what he was doing was right failed, and his heart won out in the end and was forced to consider everything he'd just done, and he knew he couldn't stay there after what he'd done. He wouldn't be welcome there, and he'd ruined whatever ties he had to his family and friends as well as killing his friends the Guardians for a cause he was now doubting, and now that he'd shown some heart and abandoned his mission he will now be considered a traitor to Viltrum and be hunted down. He basically left to clear his head and keep Viltrum's wrath from Earth once they inevitably found him. He gave them a chance to not get outright destroyed once the Viltrumites came to Earth.
