It's the combo-wombo of: 1) We need a diversity-hire for the anime, which means 2) She can never be wrong. Ever. About anything. E.v.e.r. 3) Oh, and Mark is a straight white male, therefore he must always be wrong, ESPECIALLY when it comes to "muh minorities". Absolute cancer.

I understood what they wanted but didn’t like it either. They were trying to say “it’s been months, he keeps lying cause he can’t juggle both, he’s planning a future together without telling her” but it was so rushed and in the background it didn’t work. It made it seem like she was mad at him for being a superhero

I wanna also add separately to where you said they made everyone seem to be on ambers side in the show and be like Mark you being an @ hole, that is also believable for high schoolers as well if Mark was insecure and already feeling like a failure [due to not helping his friends bf] to only tell his friend and Eve what he did wrong and not how unreasonable or self-centered Amber was being about it.

There are individuals who eat their own shit. But i you give a "perfect example of that type of individual" in your show, then it being "unpleasant to watch" would be an understatement. And yes. I do think Amber is on par with a person eating their own shit.

What I hate is how the show potrays Amber being in the right while Mark is in the wrong just seems like gaslighting to make us believe a false truth.

They didn't want to make one of the main female characters a dumbass, but they accidentally made her somewhat of a bitch. I don't mind the attempt to rewrite her character, she was kind of bland in the comics, but this specific reinterpretation was not it.

I think it's more that Amber gets too much hate from the viewers and not enough blame in the show. They are both not right for each other for a multitude of reasons. I personally think she just gets too much hate from the viewers who refuse to see any part of her side. But I fully get why they don't like her, fact of the matter they should just not be together. End of story.

Not to mention he did it to protect her. B) She was pissy because he often was late on dates or didn't show up. After she learned that this was because the Man was literally saving lives, which as far as good reasons go this is on the Number 1 spot and not even close, she didn't show an ounce of understanding, she doubled down on her bitching. Which translates to nothing other than "I am more important than people who need saving and are about to die." No, she fucking isn't

@CedricBassman if saving people is more important than anything else to him, he shouldn't be in a relationship at this point in his super career. If he can't learn to balance that then he shouldn't waste someone else's time who he's not actually serious about for example someone who he refuses to tell his identity and give shit reasons for being a bad partner for almost 6 months. Amber is not 100% in the right, but she also has plenty of valid reasons to be upset with Mark. The big issue is that the show solely tries to put it all on Mark despite Abby being manipulative that she knows he's a super and doesn't try to work with him on it. Mark just refused to actually compromise and make the relationship actually work like his parents' relationship does. His priorities were not actually with it and that's fine, he just shouldn't have been lying about trying to make it better when he didn't have the capability to do so.

Another point would Amber wouldn't need to worry about Mark possibly dying every time he goes to "work" Cop/fire fighter SO need to wrestle with that possibility everyday their partner goes of to work.

I wouldn't call it mutually toxic, one side is far more toxic and manipulative. Should Mark have cut things off when he first realised he couldn't bring himself to tell her who he really was? Sure. But does that then justify constantly berating and belittling him even knowing the things you're saying about him are flat out untrue. Did she expect her high school boyfriend of like 1 month to trust her with a life changing secret? She could've walked away at any time if she felt so insulted but she stuck around because she wanted the satisfaction of pulling that secret out of him. The show's version of Amber has also been shown to use others secrets to manipulate them into doing things for her.

@@tylerannand3777 Three months is still a miniscule amount of time. Even if it had been a year that's nothing. You can't even argue against the fact that she was more toxic you can only try and cling to some bad decisions on Mark's part to try and paint him in the same light. For something to be mutual it has to be equal. Mark didn't hold any ill intent to Amber with his actions he was just in over his head like a teenager. Amber on the other hand was actually malicious so sorry but one side being worse means that one side is worse. If you can come back to me with proof that Mark somehow enjoyed the fact that he was constantly letting Amber down and got his jollies from holding out his secret identity I might be inclined to agree with you.

You see this right here is why i try my best to push back against all the Amber hate. You're talking about a "redemption arc" when we dont even know any of Amber's motives. She could have totally justified reasons for acting the way she does but y'all are so quick to jump the gun. Give the character some time to develop. All we really know about her is that she's ambitious, she does a lot of charity, and can be a petty bitch sometimes. I have a theory that Titan is her father and the woman and child we see him with is his second family. Amber might feel abandoned by her father and that's why she treats Mark the way she did because he reminds her of him. Or maybe she has an inferiority complex being a mere mortal surrounded by gods and apocalyptic theats that can end everything she loves in an instant. I realize this is mostly conjecture. Idk why she acts the way she does but niether do you. So calm tf down.

Before the 5 month comment, even the reactor thought they had been together for a couple of weeks. When it was closer to 6 months. 6 months of lying, blowing her off, always having an excuse, and she can't know why. Imagine if that were you... How often do you act rationally when feelings are involved? In high school. Amber and Mark were both right and both wrong. He was justified in holding his secret identity. But then see you're also being a bad partner and break up. Same with her. Quit giving him chances. I disliked what they did with Amber, in general, because it still left a bad taste. But if anyone has all the information, it's really not hard to come to a normal take if you just think Amber is deserving of as much respect as anyone else. But it doesn't matter. People will make excuses while flat out ignoring behavior in the show. New favorite? Secret identity is important... Even though it is a) arguable you're putting that person in danger just by proximity, and b) Mark flippantly disregards hiding his identity and thinks it's fine to approach Eve. He leaves craters in his yard and spare with his dad 50ft above their back yard, no costumes. So it's not like this is Marvel/DC rules. Half the heroes don't even cover their faces. But, again, it doesn't matter. It's popular to dislike Amber. I also think it's because her character is a "woke based lefrist" type. Which people never cut any slack to. Think of how many people trust Trump because he has so many properties but then criticize Bernie for being a "hypocrite" for saying "tax the rich," because he owns an expensive house. @VG-fk6nk ......he is thr one who pushed for it to get made into a show, helped write all the episodes, is a chairman of the studio that animates it, and is not only an executive producer but also the show runner of it all, I highly doubt anyone could bully him to out in anything he didn't want. I personally think he's purposefully giving amber flaws, to explore after her and Mark break up, because in the actual comics, after they broke up she borderline disappeared because her entire personality was "marks girlfriend"

I think they got to episode 7 and we’re just like “we would be disrespectful to ambers character if we didn’t make her smart enough to have ALREADY known, after using lots of writing techniques in previous episodes to make it appear as if she was oblivious, and it seems like a wild disconnect. But, their insistence on keeping her around at the conclusion of season 1 speaks to what you’re suggesting.

Not that she has a lot of screen time, but she has been pretty nice overall. Certainly nicer than Amber.

@@AzrulShaymi So? It's a secret identity and she's a High School girlfriend he hasn't even been dating for a year, not a wife so why on Earth would he even risk that in the first place? In the comics she originally thought he was cheating but also had ideas he could be a hero although she thinks she's crazy for even thinking that, when Mark finally reveals it to her she's ecstatic and the relationship only goes downhill after the hero work keeps him away longer and longer.

I wouldn't say she's more complex in the comic. She's barely a character in the comic
