Fantastic work! I prefer the early arcs of this run but you do a great job at breaking down what made Fraction's time on Iron Man special.

Thanks so much, Matt! Totally get where you're coming from, the stuff after Disassembled doesn't have that same intensity as the first few arcs, but I'm a massive Fraction mark so I love it all the same!

I love the voice acting in this video. Very well done. Iron Man may not be one of my favourite heroes, but I like his character arc. I love heroes who try to overcome their flaws and be better people. After Civil War ruin the character, Matt Fraction did great work to redeem Tony and push him forward.

I read this run over 2 weeks, I feel like it's when Iron Man peaked as a character and I don't think any future Iron Man story will ever top it. It's a shame it's somewhat outta print.

Glad you liked it! I absolutely agree, it's on par with Waid and Samnee's Daredevil in my eyes. I haven't read any run since that compares, but I'm excited to find the next writer who takes Iron man in a bold new direction like this.

Great video. I find it weird that while I love Tony Stark in the MCU, I haven’t really enjoyed most of his time in the comics because he always came across as kind of an asshole (and not really an enjoyable one). However, there are exceptions of course. Fraction’s run is a great example of what happens when you give Stark the right material and address the parts of him that are extremely problematic. So while I haven’t finished his run yet, Fraction’s Iron Man is one of the best Tony Stark stories in comics.

I can absolutely see where you’re coming from. I forget where I read it, but there’s a quote that says “Tony Stark is almost a hero in spite of himself,” which I’ve never stopped thinking about. While I think it’s important to have a hero you can still like on some level, Stark’s problematic origins and his slow journey beyond them are what make him so compelling to me. A lot of writers try to hand-wave it away, but Fraction really dug in and made that the core of his run, and unsurprisingly I haven’t found many stories that measure up since.

You must've been reading the wrong comics, because it's an objective fact Stark of the comics, of the 616 universe, was less of an asshole than the MCU one. Stark of the MCU created Ultron behind everyone's back and didn't face any form of prosecution and later on talked a 15-year-old into helping him on a dangerous missions or he'll reveal an important secret about him. Comic-book Stark would never let kids fight battles of the adults.

Anyone can use a weapon or do something to make a future. It’s a question who using the weapon and what are the consequences. Those consequences will shape the future and the future will become the past. The past will soon play apart on tomorrow. Ironman is more than just a suit, the strongest and weakest is the man. Because only a man can shape their own future but one man can’t change the future but just like a machine with each part moving together People working together and enough man power can generate and change the future for the worse and better now.

My goodness, this video was off the charts amazing - wow! Just everything about it, from the use of the art, voice acting, music, other effects, this is just standout work and deserves a massive audience! I haven’t loved Tony in the comics I’ve read, but this is an intriguing essay and I am definitely adding this to my to-read pile. (I say all of this and I’ve actually been reading the current Cantwell run on Iron Man and have also quite enjoyed that as well.) *side note, if you ever are looking for more voice actors, let me know - I can send you some samples!

Ijust finished reading this run so it was cool finding this video. I found it so impressive that Larroca does every issue, it was a really long run. While his art wasn't allways amazing he did great with tech and suits so i think he fit the book really well

Totally agree, Larroca's art is...something of an acquired taste, and he definitely doesn't stick the landing all the time. That said, I think he really starts to hit his stride around World's Most Wanted, at least that's when it started to click with me. The man also draws a mean mech, which is all you can ask for in an Iron Man book

Thanks so much! I completely agree, Fraction's run was the first comic I got to read through beginning to end and it's stuck with me ever since. I've read plenty of Iron Man over the years and I still haven't found anything that digs as deep as this.

I can't recommend the run enough. Easily my personal favorite Iron Man story, and I've seen this as the definitive take on the character ever since.

It's definitely out there but I really like it! It actually reminds me a lot of classic Iron Man, like the stories where he and Doom end up in Camelot. It definitely throws you for a loop but it's definitely been worth the read so far

I have mixed feelings on this run. The stories are genuinely great but Tony was too much like a villain during Civil War that I could never root for him. Heck, there is nothing Tony did that the Red Skull didn't do during the Red Zone arc a couple years earlier (stage threats to gain political power, run an internment prison with no civil rights, and manipulate the markets). How can I cheer for Ironman when he is on the same level as a literal Nazi war criminal? I really wish the SHRA didn't end with Dark Reign and the Supreme Court just it down as unconstitutional so when Tony shows back up at Avengers Mansion, everyone hates him. He ends up exiled from the superhero community, an utter pariah, and we get a few years of stories of that instead of what we got.

@WDCain Dude blame that idiot Mark Millar. He ruined Tony. The stories before civil War did a great job exploring Stark and his flaws. Civil War is just terrible fan fiction. Also Matt did his very best to redeem Tony and make him great again which wasn't easy after civil war. Try and keep an open mind dude.

@@zemox2534 you are so right it was Mark Millar's fault (he has gone on record to saying that he hates superheroes) he is the one that rains Iron Man with Civil War and Matt fraction did the very best he could to redeem Tony's character which he succeeded in

@@zemox2534 Unfortunately Matt Fraction's Redemption of Tony didn't last long and his run was followed up with the Superior Iron Man which ruined Tony once again as it made him a full blown Supervillain

@@zemox2534 The less said about the Brian Michael Bendis run the better Because in that run it was revealed and retconed that Tony wasn't Howard Stark's biological son and that he was adopted and that his real father was a Hydra agent and his real mother was a lounge singer
