I no longer have range anxiety, but fill-up anxiety (will it be working, how fast, how much etc..)

Think of the following use case: 95% of the charging, you're going to charge at home at the low night prices. On the 2 vacation per year, where you want to charge on the highway, are you going to be bothered that you pay more than Diesel on the road to vacation? Are you actually going to stay on queue at the 50kw next to a pub on some village next to the highway because it's 20p? The fact that is more expensive than Diesel is not of the matter, you're not going to own a Diesel just for the 2 vacations a year, are you?

Yes very true. Although there are other networks like BP, Shell, Instavolt etc that are growing and offer better priced charging but knowing the ionity there as an option is great.

There are actually quite a lot of people for whom this pricing is a real issue. Business drivers immediately spring to mind, but on the continent it is not at all uncommon for people to drive a long way for vacations. I know Tesla owners in Norway who drive to Spain and Switzerland every year. We also do European road trips in the summer (in pre-corona times anyway), which take us from Norway to the UK, with stops in France and Germany. Doing that trip (approx 6k km in total) in a Polestar using Ionity would cost me 700 quid more than taking a Tesla. That's not an insignificant amount of money. Don't misinterpret me here though - I applaud Ionity for setting up a pan-european network, cos the alternative for me would involve joining 10-12 different networks in various countries, and dealing with the corresponding accounts. I just wish Polestar had joined Ionity so owners could get the discount rates, cos that would have significantly influenced my choice to buy a Model 3 instead.

The Polestar 2 seems to be a slow charger overall. Hopefully, Polestar will speed that up with software updates as it gets more information on how the battery pack is reacting to the current charging set-up. I'm sure Polestar clients are telling Polestar of this 'problem'. Thanks for a good, informative video. One bit of criticism; we heard you saying you were going to eat 2 or 3 times. Once is enough.
@Freakie1NL

2 years later is really better and on par with BMW and Mercedes. Although they mostly have a higher top kW speed. But the charging curve of the Polestar is really flat. Got the top up until 50% and all the way until 65% it stays above 100 kW.

I think that 350kW charging will be utilized on the larger battery packs on pickup trucks and delivery vans in the future. It would be very handy for vehicles that tow and need to stop more often due to their range reduction.

Using Ionity chargers are normally free when they are not operating at the full charge charge rate. You can check on the Ionity map and see if they are Free or if your at the chargers check all of them and see if any are free to use.

I *thought* that Ionity grew out of the massive fines that came from the Dieselgate debacle and got loads of money from the EU. Bit bad that they then took the decision to charge a lot per kw. Last time I tried Ionity I got 190Kw during charging (and that was when it was £8 per charge)

58p per kW if you use Chargepoint card or app compared to 69p with Ionity app on their chargers. Similar discount on all Ionity chargers in Europe too. Unless of course you get the much cheaper prices for car brands which are part of Ionity.

What is the point of those ridiculous plugs over part of the ccs connector? It always annoys me having to see an additional plug removed after the charge port is opened!

It's a shame that they've priced it so high but I understand why they'd want to. I guess at least if you need it in an emergency then it's good to know that you can access them. I'm sure most EV owners will happily pay 69p/kw if it was the difference between getting home or not. All of the Ionity chargers I've seen are located next to others such as Ecotricity or Polar so there's normally a cheaper alternative. Plus lots of people at the premium end of the market won't care about the cost. Gridserve is the future of motorway/on the go charging

@@casperhansen826 I would if it was the difference between me making it home or not. The same as I wouldn't use Ionity at 69p unless I had no other option. But I'd rather have it there as an option for emergencies than not.

Ionity chargers are really way over the top, I just hope other companions, instavolt for example can setup more charge points. I’m happy with 50kwh charge points if it saves me money as mostly I home charge and after 200 miles on a long run I need an hours break.

No, no, no, this state of public charging is just not going to work for most people. Putting a middle man between you and the folks who generate electricity is a loosing proposition. Oil companies own many gas stations and shouldn't power companies be doing the same? Government funding could make the transition easier. Buying an expensive EV and paying through the nose for electricity is downright idiotic. Unless you have easy home charging an EV really makes no sense whatsoever. Thanks for the video as I feel this information needs to get out to the general public quickly but I'm afraid number of owners is so low as to just not matter. EV transition is going to be very, very slow. I've gone from 100% in to have completely dismissed the idea. Just too early and too expensive! Everything feels up in the air and I expect it to be radically different in several years.

Do you use the car's navigation to get to these chargers? Does that set off pre-conditioning of the battery so it can accept maximum charge when you reach the charger, like E-Tron/EQC/All Tesla? You always seem to get poor charge speeds at first connection, so wonder if you need to do something different on going there to pre-condition the battery?
@ShortCircuitPS2
@ShortCircuitPS2 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yes you can navigate using the Google maps in the car but at the moment polestar doesn't support battery pre conditioning. They've told me it's a feature on the list but there hasnt been any confirmation if or when it might be implemented

We took delivery of our Polestar last week and received our plugsurfing card today in the post. I think you mentioned somewhere in one of your videos that using this is (or can be) more expensive than just paying by credit card at the pump (sorry charger) What are your thoughts? best wishes Nick

love to buy an EV, but the charging issues seem nightmarish. i almost never run from gas pump to gas pump until one works. hell, i don't even understand WHY anyone would expect a difference from moving one to the other? i'll just have to wait until they get their stuff together.
