Chemistry on Khan Academy: Did you know that everything is made out of chemicals? Chemistry is the study of matter: its composition, properties, and reactivity. This material roughly covers a first-year high school or college course, and a good understanding of algebra is helpful.
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

People wondering about the inconsistencies in the graph: Im begining grade 10 now so maybe not the best explanation, but when going from ions in the S-orbital (first two) to the P-orbital (3rd one) there is a dip in the graph, because that single electron is kinda lonely in that entire P-orbital, so it's easier to remove him than the others And then the second dip in a period is when there are 3 electrons in the P-orbital (aka when there is only one electron in every hourglass shape) so they have a special kind of stability where they dont wanna share their P-Orbitals with another electron(one orbital can hold two electrons), so when another one is added its easily removable in order to regain that special stability of the 3 electrons in the p orbital Hope it helps in a way

'cation' is derived from the greek 'κάτω', meaning 'down', while 'anion' is derived from 'άνω', meaning 'up'. thus, it's more like 'down-ions' and 'up-ions'.
@mariageorgiadou1198
@mariageorgiadou1198 6 жыл бұрын
oleksijm yes you can cal also remember it as cation , "cat" which is a likebale animal by many people, and anion which creates an aural image of an "onion" which stinks and has more of a negative image

Elements in solid state are more stable. So first an atom in solid or liquid state is converted into gaseous form by sublimation and then its electron is removed.
@mahinurrashid5892
@mahinurrashid5892 7 жыл бұрын
element should be converted to gaseous state to weaken the forces of attraction so it is easier to remove electrons
