In the scene where she says the name of the pasta (Puttanesca), she gets irritated because he laughs, due to the fact that "Puta" in Portuguese is the same as whore, and he laughs saying "whore squint?!" (puta vesga?) because the phonetics of puttanesca are similar.

The name of the movie is a pun. It means stomach in portuguese, so it refers to the gastronomic side of the movie. But, there is an expression in portuguese that says: "tem que ter estômago pra isso", which translates to "you need guts for that" referring to the darker side of the movie.

This movie was actually filmed in the city that I live and they are filming a sequel (prequel). This is one of those simple movies, that they do a lot with very few resources. A precious gem in Brazil's cinematography.

This translation is incorrect. Paraíba and Ceará are translated as ‘The Jungle.’ Paraíba and Ceará are states in the Northeast region. They are not ‘Jungles.’ They are the region where ‘The Auto da Compadecida’ was made. And calling someone ‘paraíba’ is PEJORATIVE. He is experiencing xenophobia for most of the film.

There are a lot of mistranslations there. They're not saying "jungle", they're saying Ceará, that's a northeastern State in Brazil, and it doesn't have jungles, it's mostly semi-arid and has beautiful beaches. Also I don't like them translating Coxinhas, it shouldn't have a translation like other foods don't
