Hartung Family Farms is a farming operation out of Jackson and Clinton County Iowa, with our main farm located in Preston Iowa. We have around 2400 acres of corn, soybeans, alfalfa, rye, and oats as well as around 750 head of cattle. We have a wide range of International equipment from small tractors from the 1970s to newer large farm tractors!

I've been to iowa once Its a beautiful state Im an over the road truck driver and also a hard core hunter. I really wish and dream of getting my first buck some day,Been hunting since i was a kid but never got a deer.

Have some really nice deer down there! I know in northern Wisconsin we don’t do many drives mostly because it’s solid wood and not much open areas. I prefer to sit in the stand by myself anyways. We usually use a little hatchet for the pelvic bone and just chop it out pretty quickly. Thanks for the video ‘Ron! Hope there’s another deer hunting video coming!

A piece of sturdy pipe about 24 inches long with 2 holes drilled in it and some cable makes for a lot easier gambrel than the solid ones. The one I made has changed my life. I’m gonna be hunting eastern Iowa next archery season. I’m gonna find me a piece of property there close to my cousins place as well so I can hunt it and get the extra landowners tag.

Love driving deer I live in southwest Iowa a lot more ag with smaller tree lines but the deer get thick in there and the RR right of ways we push the surrounding land. Been doing it long enough we know where all the deer run it’s a massacre best year we had was 55 deer in 3 days between 13 guys that was pre EHD and chronic waste tho. So many B&C bucks we would see. We do yell and shout tho over the years we noticed walking and not making any noise the big bucks will lay there and let you walk right by them and then bust out the back if we yell long before we get into the woods the deer are already on the way to the posters. The drivers shouldn’t be getting shots they’re there to push the deer to the blockers. Great vid!

Dang it Ron, I'm supposed to be working right now! For all the deer drive naysayers, you had 16 people in your party, with 2 deer taken. In total, how many miles would you estimate your party walked during the day's drives? That's 2 for the wall though, very nice bucks. Thanks for the video.

Featuring a wide variety of barely viable shotguns. Red dot and regular scopes mounted on receivers of pumps (some good, some downright poor depending on your gun). Plain barreled and ribbed barrel pumps with no sights (the videographer playing venison roulette). I thought I caught a glimpse of a cantilevered scoped gun, but wasn't sure (good to best). And there was one plain barrel with rifle sights (good). It is almost unconscionable since a cantilever rifled barrel for most of those guns is only $200 plus a little (in the off-season). Add a cheap 4 power scope and you have viable 100 yard rig. And $150's with rifling and sights can also be found (80+ yards ?) Additionally, that Mossberg shown at 8:00 has a ribbed barrel. My buddy added a screw-on clamp set of sights ($39) to his and was getting 2" groups at 50 yards with plain Slugger slugs. And that wraps it up for the main reason I skipped way more than half of irritatingly excessive pointing lecture by this poorly equipped "shot gun hunter". If he can't even rig up to shoot straight, what the heck is talking for ?

Yes sir love the hunting content ever time! I haven’t done deer drives in probably 10 years or more. We use to get family together and go all over but I guess everyone growing up and moving farther away we just stopped. It’s fun most ppl that don’t like it never has done it everyone needs to try it once atleast.. but I hope to get in the woods still having had time got 6 different big shoots and one I’ve been after for 2 years that is a 12 with lickers if u count then he is a 17 but he will score over 190 inch forsure. This guy’s challenge is to put a boot in the butt of deer lying low so they get up, run, and expose their ribs to a dose of acute lead poisoning. There is no other way to hunt deer in that thick habitat, and in that farm country where too many deer destroy a farm’s annual profit. You are living in a sportsman’s dream world. This Hartung family is living in the real world, where tough choices have to be made. I think you are better suited to playing XBox hunting games than actually playing a positive role in helping farmers manage their deer herd

Nice bucks, love driving deer. We do it here in NJ but use buck shot, much easier to knock them down when running full steam versus slugs. How come you guys don’t use buckshot?

How long does your season last? We are lucky in Alabama to have a very long season but we don't have deer as big either

Deer drives, or any game drive, is one of the oldest forms of communal hunting. As long as everything is set up properly it is also safe. It would be cool to work both ends of a drive.

I’ve done deer drive never ever shot one that way only sitting and I don’t know why you guys drive do your homework get cams and with all that land out there it’s not like your hunting in Vermont we’re your hunting behind your neighbors house and if you drive the woods you’ll push a deer to some other random ahole that’s sitting 60 yards down from you so if we can do it in the north I think out in Iowa we’re there’s more land than people I think you’ll be good dealing with sitting I have to deal with a guy that tromps and he’s been in 4 fist fights in the woods for driving deer!! He didn’t win!!

We have two week controlled hunts in Ontario Canada. Were we use shotguns and do deer drives.we hunted three days last week and got three deer. We had lots of snow and rain.

We always wait till the last day of season before we bust out our honey holes here in Kansas it always good for at least two good bucks last year I killed a 170 ten on the last drive of the season wright behind your house had been trying to kill him with the bow but thank god for rifle season

I do a lot of archery hunting. I absolutely love that other people can hunt deer. I simply dislike it when people take chip shots at deer and hope it hits wherever. That’s what it looks like to me anyway that first shot you took. Kind of a Hail Mary. I too get excited when I get an opportunity at a deer. But I owe it to the deer to make one, clean, lethal shot. If I go past that it’s because I wounded, and need to finish it. Just offering a different perspective.
