Hartung Family Farms is a farming operation out of Jackson and Clinton County Iowa, with our main farm located in Preston Iowa. We have around 2400 acres of corn, soybeans, alfalfa, rye, and oats as well as around 750 head of cattle. I really love your videos reminds me of when I was young with my gramps and uncles. Now most of the farms have been sold off and most of the crew has passed on. Kids today don't seem to have much interest in hunting. Thanks for posting

Saying hi from up here on Maine! Love the videos honestly sorry I don't watch more of the farming videos but I really really enjoy watching you guys do your drives each year! Love the camaraderie of your family and friends and how much respect for each other and the animals you harvest!. We don't get to drive deer up here and at times makes things pretty difficult and you don't get to share the experience with many friends and family till after the hunt cuz over three people in a group up here can be "considered" a deer drive and you can get fined pretty heavy. Maybe some day our paths will cross and I get to experience what you guys do and vice versa. But for now keep the great work up!!

Ron you should put a 1.5-4 power scope on your gun. I love it on my 20 gauge with rifled barrel.

Highly recommend upgrading your gun/scope combo. Over the past few videos been seeing you whiff shots that should be easy gimmes. Using a gun designed for waterfowl to slug hunt with is definitely not ideal. I would defiantly recommend pretty much and brand of shotgun with a cantilever barrel and a real shotgun scope made for slugs. It will DRASTICALLY increase your accuracy, range, consistency, and shot/kill ratio.

I agree. Get something like a Mossberg 500 20 gauge with the rifled barrel that you can put a scope on. They're like $ 350 at Buds Guns. And get yourself some shooting sticks or a monopod. Standing in the middle of a field blazing away offhand is like asking for a miracle to hit anything.

I useta hunt on deer drives with a bunch of locals outta the Milo area back in the 1990's. It was great fun. Ya hadda watch it for the Rambo types chucking pumpkin balls your way. Then by the early 2000's Iowa went Bollywood & all the big wheel hunters with all their $$$ ruined it....

Any tips on getting permission to hunt farms. I have asked 10 family farms here in Wisconsin and have been turned down every time and it's just 2 of us hunting

I am enjoying the videos, and cringe for you with the sight issues. Curious if you are thinking of switching to a straight wall cartridge rifle? I saw the one guy with the AR - I assume 450 bushmaster or 350 legend?

It is hard to tell how big they are when there is only one deer. The other year the adult doe would lead the fawns places. I had a deer come out and give me a shot, so I thought it was the big one in the group of 3. You don’t have a lot of time so I took the shot and I found out it was not the big one. The good thing about the little ones is they are easier to drag out of the woods. I have 4 antlerless tags, so it did not screw up my hunting.

The one guy was carrying an AR so I’d say they can use rifles like we can in Ohio. Way better choice in my opinion for what it’s worth.

How is 10-12 guys all with guns do a deer drive and only 5 tags to fill. A bunch of you were hunting tagged out and illegal. Or is Iowa different than most states.

In Iowa you can party hunt during deer 1 and 2. If your license is/ was for the season you are hunting statewide or valid for the county they are hunting members of your group can keep hunting until all tags are filled. As a group your tag can go on another party members deer until all valid tags are filled. Guys tagged out can help fill tags.

@@ampman3228 that nice, but a slippery slope, when only 5 tags and that many hunters, you run the chance of dropping too many deer, Not very often you get that many deer on a drive but has happened to us one time, I loved doing deer drives, really miss it.

Don’t agree with drives they should be outlawed to many deer get wounded and die later or not found and wasted and it’s really not hunting it’s driving them to a slaughter
