I bought the 10th Generation iPad with the keyboard and pencil. I am happy with it. Charging the pencil is no bid deal as it charges fast and lasts longer on the charge than I plan on using. I love the keyboard. I think I maybe one of the few that is glad to have bought it. Coming from an Air 2, I am amazed of what it can do and have no regrets.

What a lot of reviewers fail to realise is that Apple did not ruin the iPad completely. They made the iPad less desirable for hardcore fans such as themselves, who would never even buy a base model iPad anyway. They upgraded the iPad for non hardcore fans who just want a good, nice looking, affordable tablet to play games and have fun with. I do understand the frustration around the Pencil, though.

I use Logitech Crayon. It is usable with ALL iPads that support Apple pencil gen 1 & 2. I recommend it for those who wanted to take notes and casual sketches that doesn’t need pressure sensitivity. And you can get it at a cheaper price than even Apple pencil gen 1.

This iPad is MORE than enough for me. I upgraded from an iPad 10.2 inch 7th generation, and it works WAY better and even has a better chip than my iPhone 11. I am not a big fan of the Apple Pencil and I really don’t like using any stylus on any sort of tablet so the pencil issue doesn’t really affect me. The display problem also doesn’t really affect me too much because I’m used to this kind of display with my older iPads and other tablets, so it doesn’t really matter, and the gap between the outer cover and screen actually feels less compared to older models. The only thing is the slow charging which doesn’t really affect me either because I usually just charge all my devices overnight, so I really think this iPad is really good for its time and price, but that’s just my take on this iPad.

If you don’t care about the pencil display or price you’ve found your ipad

You can just charge the pencil with your phone, yes, it works, and it’s much better than using the cable and adapter. Still you need to buy it to pair the pencil for the first time, but after that you can just keep it at home in case you need to pair it again. But for everyday use, just plug it in your phone 20 mins for a full charge :)

Yes. A good device for anyone who wouldn’t use all the extras, like me. It’s still an iPad. and it’d replace the older one which recently got damaged. Good video Greg.

Currently, the iPad 10 costs $399 at Microcenter or $379 if you use a Microcenters credit card to purchase. I purchased a blue one because I am a casual user and wanted the landscape camera for Facetime and MS Teams meetings.

I transferred a ton of pictures from my thumb drive and it literally took no time. I also have the first gen pencil AND I upgraded from a iPad 6th generation. I wish the iPad included more storage but it's not the end of the world. It's not cheap at all but this will be my iPad for the next 4 years... minimum. Edit - I definitely don't see the point of the magic keyboard, I have a MacBook pro. I feel at that point I might as well get the MacBook air.

I feel like there would be a lot less controversy about the Apple Pencil situation if Apple had just done this but also released a variant of the first Gen pencil with a usb c port on it.

The 10th Gen iPad and the M1 iPad Air are far more different than the appearance let’s on, and they are really aimed at different users. You’re right, if you don’t use the pencil, mostly just use the USB-C port to charge, and use the iPad as an honest-to-God tablet, instead of trying to make it into a laptop replacement, the iPad is probably fine. But to those of us for whom using a tablet as a tablet is just unthinkable, and who must find new and increasingly bizarre ways to make our iPad behave like the highest end MacBook Pro (and for some reason we didn’t just buy a MacBook Pro), an M1 iPad Air is the entry level. While the machines look similar, the target customer is quite different.

I almost bought the air last week but ended up buying the 11" Pro model. I did that because I really wanted the extra, louder speakers which is important to me.

Perhaps using the USB-C Logitech Crayon instead of the first generation Apple Pencil is the solution for the iPad 10.

The answer for the question why Apple decided to stay with the 1gen pencil is quite simple, actually - the display on the new 10gen iPad is not laminated. It has the same display technology that old basic iPad has. Only iPads with laminated displays has 2gen apple pencil. Simple as that.

Thank you, I am about to replace my 1st gen iPad Air that has served me very well but it not being able to go beyond iOS 12.5 is starting to have some real app limitations so now is the time to upgrade. Your last comments really hit home. Here in Europe the 64g model is considerably more expensive at €579 than it is in North America and the Air even more so at €699 plus an otter box case for full protection for either and the costs mount. I was leaning to the air but really, I will never use the Smart Keyboard or pencil and only transfer small amounts of files via my computer, I also don’t need a huge capacity and I’m happy with the display on my first gen air so would imagine the 10th gen iPad is going to be a big enough improvement so I think for my needs the iPad over the new gen air is going to be more than good enough. My main uses are zoom meetings, email, watching KZfaq , playing flight sim and Trainz sim and calendar schedules so for the price of an air sans case I get the iPad and case and am done!

Yea, I purchased one for my Dad’s use. Then discovered for a couple of hundred dollars more the M1 iPad Air was such a better purchase! I actually took delivery and then into the store for the exchange. NO, it is NOT worth it considering the storage….

I use a third party pencil which I got for under 25€ on amazon and it looks like the apple pencil 2. generation. It is magnetic but doesnt charge but it is still super good for the pricw. Plus the non-laminated display is soo unnoticeable in comparison to my old 6th gen ipad. I love my new ipad and i got it for a discount on black friday

The pencil adaptor thing is not an added cost for me. My pencil came with an adaptor so I don’t need to buy it and usb c cords are so ubiquitous I have a bunch of those lying around too. But this reviewer makes it seem like everyone needs to buy 2 new things just to make the pencil work on this tablet. If anything it works out better this way because plugging a pencil directly into the iPad (like you would need to do on a the previous model) was so precarious and awkward, I’d rather plug it in using a cord.

FINALLY a reviewer (in tech) that, at least towards the end, GOT IT!!!!!!!. All the other ones are complete (tech nerds) wrong…. Just bought myself a 9th gen iPad and Logitech folio for $460 total and I love em both.

They could of made a usb c to lightning cable without the adapter.

I also watched tons of unboxing videos of the 1st generation Apple Pencil which comes with a usb c to Apple Pencil adapter which means no extra cash is spent.

I was gifted an iPad 10 gen. I bought my apple pencil second hand (luckily a friend of mine had one still sealed and never used and sold it to me for cheap) because my local apple store no longer carries the apple pencil 1. Thennnn i found out that i needed the usb-c adapter to actually pair it to my iPad. I wish their accessories were just plug and play man.

It’s worth if you want iPad. For someone like me who owns iPad 9th generation 256gb paired with Logitech Combo Touch case this model makes no sense. My next upgrade will be M1 or newer soc iPad. As it stands now I don’t need anything more powerful than I already own.

Upon further research,I can get the iPad 9,with 256g storage,through my carrier,for the same price I could get the iPad 10 with 64g of storage.

That camera position on the ipad 10 is the best thing for us the teachers who conduct online classes. it looks very natural to the students.there is literally no other place they could place the apple pencil 2 charging dock. putting it on the top means you have to eliminate stereo speakers. on the right means no center camera because then no place to put charging dock and camera without the pencil hanging out of the ipad while charging. on the left means no using apple pencil and the camera together while placed on a table. on the botton means again no stereo speakers or type c port or anything else. you can either get that camera or that pencil2. this ipad is meant for students. is the best camera placement

Another great review - even with conflicting advice. I have the iPad Air M1 (refurb from Ama) and honestly, I don't have much use for it. The MacBook Air M1 is so good, (battery and weight) the iPad air doesn't serve a purpose since I do not use the pencil.

The problem with the iPad 10 is the iPad 9 and iPad Air 4 already exist. The 9 is cheaper, and is usable with the Pencil 1 out of the box; and the Air has a laminated display, faster transfer speeds, same A14 chip, and Pencil 2/Magic Keyboard support.

I feel like the Logitech pencil is the move if you want the support. I mean the screen is not the best so a basic stylus works.

Idk why people are so upset over the Apple Pencil connection and charging thing. Yes it’s not as simple as gen 2 BUT everyone is making such a big deal about it. You pair it and boom it’s done, does the cable and adapter really affect you that badly? It’s seriously not as bad as you think it is

Actually my sister has an iPad 8th generation and she uses an adapter to charge her LIGHTNING Apple Pencil so it really is no different!!! This iPad just has a different port and you have to use a dongle anyways to charge a lightning iPad!!!

This would be a fine iPad for my kid, but the main reason she has had an iPad instead of the iPad Air was the price. Hopefully they can bring the price down on the iPad 11 or they make an iPad SE with the old design for those who want updated internals when it comes time to replace an old iPad.

I just got the ipad gen 10 2022. I already have a m1 pro macbook pro for "real work", so I dont need a "pro" Ipad. as long as my ipad can play movies at decent resolutions and play videogames im good.

I have Apple Pencil 1, and I would prefer this iPad to have 1gen support, it will save me 122 US dollars! Also, no need to charge it every day, just once a week is enough, no big deal! Good for paper replacement! Also, I like Apple Pencil 1gen more, it’s more beautiful, sturdier and symmetrical! Also, do you know, that you can charge it from any iPhone? I’m charging it from an old iPhone 5 once a week, so no need any adaptors, so, there are many possibilities to charge it.

What happens when you use pencil adapter on the iPad Pro? Will the 1st gen pencil connect or is Apple just software locking it out.

I’ve never owned an iPad. If I were to purchase one it would most likely be this newer model. I would only use it to watch movies while out on the road. Then again my iPhone already does that so…. 🤷🏻‍♂️

As a student this works great for me. Great for note taking, research, art, and watching movies. Really light weight too which is nice and it can easily fit in a back pack.

The ESR Rebound Magnetic case is much better, makes it like a real laptop, and behaves like iPad pro case. Only downside is you have to charge it separately

apple pencil one still needed an adapter for 9th gen so what's the deal you just want to plug it in your ipad vs the wall charger it risk breaking off ten fold ? if ya want a cheap ipad get a 9th gen over 10th gen all day

I would not get this . Due to the way you charge the Apple Pencil ✏️, also the non laminated screen , there is more reflection on screen which is a problem when watching shows / films .

If Apple wanted to differentiate the Apple Pencils (or couldn’t put the Pencil on the side due to the magnets), they sound have just made a new Apple Pencil with a female connector and let it stick out like the Apple Pencil 1. Having to use an adapter is just silly. Don’t get me wrong, the Apple Pencil 1 was a goofy design but keep in mind that this is Apple and they do weird things like that (obviously)

As a normal if I was going to purchase a new 10.2 inch iPad feel I might purchase the previous 9th generation. The USB C / USB 2 speed type port is a MAJOR FAIL!!!! The first generation pencil use with the 10th generation again is a MAJOR FAIL!!!! Thing is most of us normals do not even use a pencil/pen for input. Since we use it for content consumption, rather than production of content. As Steve said we use our finger as we always have it with us, and we do not need to charge it. Also for the pencil feel third party is going to be the solution. The Apple generation one pencil just "Sucks Big Time" with having to use an adapter to charge it. Might have been okay with a USB C plug end in place of the Lighting plug end. Still have to plug it into the NEW iPad the same way as before, however would not need an adapter/cable solution. Now I just purchased for content consumption an old 2017 12.9 inch iPad Pro with A10X Fusion chip FP32 768 GFLOPS, Retina Promotion display, TouchID which I like better than FaceID. Price for my 256GB WiFI was $ 449.00 (October 2022) on Amazon. Along with the iPad Pro for my case/keyboard solution I purchased the LENRICH iPad pro 12.9 case with Keyboard 2017 2nd 2015 1st, 360 Rotatable Wireless Folio 180 Swivel Stand Hard Cover Auto Sleep Wake up Black. Reason I like a case like this over the Apple Magic Keyboard is that it can rotate/swivel and lay flat covering the keyboard while I use to read articles/magazines like a plain letter size piece of paper. Also if I wanted to use it with a third party pencil/pen in this mode. Use my iPad Pro for content consumption. This size makes it great to read a book, and articles on the 12.9 inch screen. Almost the same as looking/reading a letter size piece of paper. That is what these old eyes where looking for.

If you are a professional you do not get the base model. This is for watching tv and videos not doing work. Quit comparing the top of the line to base. It is good for what it is. If you don’t want to pay the $1200 for the top of the line get a Chromebook.

This Ipad is receiving a lot of hate. I do think the criticism over the screen is a legit complaint though. It at least should have an anti-reflective coating and a laminated display. The Air was this price and it had those features. I actually don't care so much about the pencil. It's so old and there are just as good 3rd party makers who are cheaper and use usbc to charge. That is actually more convenient.

I feel like if ur only reason to buy an iPad is to use it casually, this iPad is absolutely the one for u. It’s the cheapest option- now ik the price increased by 120$ but y’all have to see the physical changes to the iPad as well. As someone who is now very well comfortable w a phone W OUT a home button, i would rather charge the extra for an iPad 10 instead of 9, and pay lesser than the airs just for the lack of home button. Now y’all can also say y not buy the air 4 refurbished? I think people have their own choice and a lot of people would prefer a newer device to a one that’s already been used i suppose. This iPad is still a great one minus the laminated screen, which apple actually fucked it but other than that great device and key point, cheap.

I love the size and the use I get out of it is exactly what it was intended for kzfaq.infoUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA . I use it mostly for taking notes in school and studying and it for the most part has replaced all my note-taking on actual paper. However, the screen is not as bright as I'd like. The lights in my class are super bright and I have to adjust my angles often just to see what I'm reading/writing on the screen. It could be my eyes, but I think a brighter screen would still help. Also there is no mute switch. This might not be an issue for most people but for me, this being my first ipad and being an iphone user, I'm so used to having it there. Everyone can hear when I'm typing with it in the library (probably just me overthinking) but I'm sure I can adjust that in the settings. Just kinda inconvenient. Other than that, I really enjoy it overall
