After a month of using the iPad Pro, we got a pretty good idea of whether Apple's "Laptop Replacement" claim holds any truth.

Enjoyed your video. Honest and simple. I have had the Ipad Pro for about 3 months now, and I am super happy with it. Battery capacity is great, I think you forgot to mention that in your video, and I do agree with the other conclusions you had. The other major party this device is great for, besides artists / graphics, is students! Even though it is expensive, the different note apps as PDF Expert, PDF Office, and Notability, makes this a great device for taking notes in lectures. Annotate pdf's in class and take notes, sync them to your home computer / Mac via OneNote and others is just fantastic. I had a Surface Pro 3 before buying the Ipad Pro, and The Surface is a replacement for your PC. The Ipad Pro, as you pointed out, is not. Keep up the good work:-)

No. It won't replace your laptop IF you use it for "real" work. Now, if you do primarily media consumption such as watching movies, facebook, internet browsing, emails, then yes, it is. For my everyday use I pick up my iPad Pro 9.7 over everything else. It is really a fantastic device and if you use the keyboard and pen, WOW (esp. the drawing). If I need to do business or heavy gaming then I go to my MSI laptop. I would say I use the iPad about 80% of the time, the MSI 20%. I have found that I almost never have to use my Falcon anymore unless its super intensive applications.

ipad pro is my desktop replacement. I dont use my imac or mbp at all, i actually havent since Air 2. iCloud and Prime cloud storage are what make my 128gb perfectly fine.

I'm the same. I don't know what people are trying to do. They must designing starships to need so much out of a device. It's not for making full length 4K high dollar feature motion pictures. Even then you need a device like a 5k iMac or Mac Pro. People just want a reason to cry.

Been using iPads as my laptop/Mackbook replacements, by choice, since the original iPad. Now, with the iPad Pro, THAT IS my laptop replacement of choice as iOS, now, is much more mature and you CAN accomplish many of the same tasks, in a different way though, that you can on a full blown laptop with some minor software limitations and some hardware limitations, as well (like no mouse or trackpad input, having to use speical mobile external drive devices,etc.) I get along fine with just using my iPad Pro for just about eveything. EVEN as a portable music studio, as well as a visual drawing tablet and third party Adonit Bluetooth smart stylus connected to my Mac (very similar to using a Wacom Cintiq) for doing precision drawing on my Mac drawing and painting apps from my iPad Pro. The large screen iPad Pro is fantastic for a great many things!

I really hope you reply to this as I have a big question - I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro. However, my MacBook Pro is old and really slow. I'm about to go into University and I'm going to be doing Film Production (mostly editing and producing films). I'm thinking of buying an iPad as a replacement for my old laptop, as I don't really want to buy a new laptop, but I'm scared I'll regret buying the iPad... Any opinions?

+Filipe Oliveira Buy a laptop for sure if you're going to university for film production. Now way the iPad can handle that right now.

But I feel like I could use the iPad to write notes when I go there. I would feel bad buying a new laptop as I already have one. Plus, the iPad is really easy to take anywhere! And for film production I would do it more at home than at university on my iMac, so I would not use the iPad to edit.

Also, if I were to buy an iPad Pro, would you recommend waiting to see if there is a new one coming out this year, or just buy it now?
@TekHeadz
@TekHeadz 8 жыл бұрын
+Filipe Oliveira Oh, I see. If you plan on doing all your video editing on an iMac, I think the iPad can definitely work for a University note taking / productivity device. Just make sure you have a clear idea of what sort of things you know you're going to need to accomplish and find the apps that fit your needs. Get ready to embrace cloud services for storage. Like I said in the review, I think the iPad Pro makes a great supplemental device if you have a main computer for things elsewhere (your iMac in this case). But if you think you'll ever need to do video editing on-the-go, your options are pretty limited right now on the IPad, and a MacBook would be a better choice. In terms of buying now or waiting, if Apple follows their usual yearly refresh cycle with iOS devices, then we could potentially see an updated 12" iPad Pro in October/November. But since the iPad Pro is a 1st gen product, there's no history of refreshes to base this on. The recently released 9.7" iPad Pro already has a few enhancements that the 12.9" doesn't, so it would be realistic to expect an updated 12.9" this year. But again, only Apple knows for sure.

I'm a heavy user an my iPad Pro is good enough as a laptop replacement. But my iPad Air 2 already proved that last year.

Don't get me wrong it's still good to have a desktop. But the iPad Pro is good for mobile computing. I have a Logitech create keyboard case as my keyboard. I prefer this keyboard case over Apple's keyboard. I also have the SteelSeries Nimbus Bluetooth game controller for game playing.

I agree. I think it's great for mobile computing as well. Using mine every day for all I used to accomplish on my MacBook Air. I like some of the features of the Logitech Create -- like the row of function keys -- but the minimal design of the Apple Keyboard keeps me using it instead. Glad you're enjoying yours! Thanks for watching.

+TekHeadz I was going to get the Apple smart keyboard at first but when I found out I can get the Logitech create for $135 from Apple with my corporate discount. I was sold. The weight doesn't bother me. If I don't want to use this case I have a tempered Glass screen protector and this case iPad Pro Case, LUVVITT® CLEAR GRIP Flexible Soft Transparent TPU Rubber Back Cover for iPad Pro 12.9 (2015) Air Gap Shockproof Technology - Clear www.amazon.com/dp/B0167G90D8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_E-uCwbE877HH0. I also have 13 inch protective sleeve.

I have the MacBook Pro 💻 💻 & the iPadPro 9.7inch 📱📱 -- to be honest I still use my MacBook Pro the most coz me MacBook still has the Cd & DVD drive which is the feature l still prefer on the older MacBook laptops. When the newer MacBook's they got rid of the DVD drive. Which is one of the reasons l never updated. But l still use my iPad like any other iPad and there doesn't seem any differences between the newer iPads to the older iPads. Tho l still love the iPad Pros

Anyone who reviews an iPad always states the onboard software keyboard is crap! REALLY!!! Have anyone EVER given the onboard keyboard on ANY iPad a real world, honest to goodnees working time to justify that statement? I have been using the iPad's onboard keyboard since the original iPad. I never use an external keyboard, EVER, with any of the iPads I own which is now up to 4 with the iPad Pro. If anyone spent more than an a couple of hours, more than a day more than a week using the onboard keyboard, you would find out that typing on the iPad onboard keyboard is something that you would get used to and acclimated to using over a period of weeks! On the iPad Pro, if your are like me and tend to use the iPad Pro more in landscape mode, you get a nearly full size, full length and correct size keys of a standard laptop or MacBook keyboard layout! This is fantastic and makes typing on the iPad Pro even easier with the onscreen, virtual keyboard! Couple this with the introduction of the iOS 9 trackpad feature in the iOS keyboard area and this makes for a great typing experience! My text input and typing skills using the iPad's/iOS onscreen keyboard has gotten nothing but seriously improved over time. It took me all of 6 weeks to two months, 5 years ago, to acclimate myself to getting better at using the iOS onscreen keyboard and I have no complaints. I forced myself to use the new tools that iPads and iOS presented and that's what I've been using and I am, now, very comfortable with using the onscreen keyboard and do not feel the need for the "crutch" of the purchasing/expense of using an external Bluetooth keyboard or keyboard case.

I would go with the iPad Pro simply because it is touch screen. When apple makes a MacBook that is touch screen , then I might reconsider.

Man, this device do not have USB slots, you can not connect mouse to this. You do not have touchpad, how can this device can replace laptop if you can not even add mouse to it. $1000 device for this, for that money you can buy 2 in 1 device with i7 processor. This device suck.

Why would I buy a laptop just to use a mouse for it? You need to figure shit out man
@andyH_England

You are a typical Windows fanboy, must have a mouse for everything. This is touch, and despite MS insisting a mouse is needed for touch, it isn't. We have moved on, get into the 21st century. If this is not for you move on, not every product fits every user. I am stunned by postings like yours that judge every product on your own usage. This is a niche product and will be brilliant for some but not flexible for others. This is the first generation and we know from the SP that it took 3-4 years to get it right, I suspect this will be a lot better quicker. Already there are many keyboards, where as the SP has only the Type covers. It is expensive and yes you could get a decent Windows laptop for that price, but I can run most of my office from an iPad as I don't do intensive work and an i7 is overkill. I suspect there are millions in the same boat. Also it's first quarter of iPad Pro sales easily beat Surface sales for the same period (best Surface results ever) so that speaks volumes.
